The Knight

Edmund Redwood

Bio/Personality: Born the third son of a baron, Edmund Redwood was a squire of little renown, his elder brothers Walter and Robert being knights and nobles of high standing. Edmond's father Achard was a well known supporter of the house of Lancaster, holding many a royal office and serving at Agincourt alongside King Henry the Fifth.

At the battle of Verneuil he was squiring for a knight of King Henry the Sixth's retinue, a large man, with smarts comparable to that of a goat. During the battle, squire and knight charged a spear-wall, a move that cost the knight his life. Thrown to the ground, Edmund grabbed the fallen knight's flail and began smashing through the spearmen, one at a time. Despite taking wounds, Edmund demonstrated just how fast a knight in full armor could actually be, more than keeping up with the leather armored spearmen, smashing in skulls, and, along with the survivors of that same charge which had cost Edmund a master, defeating nearly the entire unit with little help. For his valor and skill, Edmund was knighted by the king himself. Settling down and having two children with an Elanor Triston, Edmund lived peacefully and without conflict. Despite this, an unknown group of assassins stormed his home. Edmund managed to kill four of them, but a knife cut brought an infection that no amount of bloodletting could stop. Pale and coughing up phlegm and pus, Edmund spent his last moments reading a letter sent from the Duke of York, an enticement to join his service for an unstated purpose. With his dying breaths, Edmund told his wife to write to York, as he himself was too weak to write, he dictated a scathing assault on York for daring to suggest he challenge his loyalty to the house of Lancaster, finishing the statement with a "You must have learned many lessons in cowardice from the French, Duke Richard." Expiring soon after finishing the letter, Edmund was startled to realize he was still alive, and had awoke in a place between worlds, fully armored and on horseback.

Edmund has a great want for attention, is very loud and boastful, greedy and not one to give anything to anyone. Despite this, Edmund is kind and has a strong sense of justice, and, unlike many of his peers, his boasts have solid backing, for Edmund is a skilled warrior, especially when wielding a flail. Flails were often known to knights as the hardest of their weaponry to use effectively, due to their unique construction and often pattern-less motion, these exact reasons are why Edmund excels with the flail, while the movements may seem random and uncontrollable, Edmund knows exactly where the head is, how bent the chain is, and how to make it hit harder.

@bluetommy2 this is a well written character but seems to be a real person!? To keep in step with the others, could you make some minor edits to keep him out of the pages of real history? Just for consistency really, also can I ask for a slightly more detailed picture, one that better represtents the armor he would be wearing in the cross realm.

Bio/Personality:
Kyro is a very tough man. He has a calm mind, especially in the heat of conflict. He is hyper observant and has inhuman reflexes. He can blend into the dark with little trouble and his emotions are as visibly unseen as his kills.

Kyro is a man from the Takamuko clan, but was banished at the age of 16, for his "cowardice in batttle." The shogun that ordered his exile saw his skill in moving with the shadows as dishonorable and demonic. As warmongers, the Takamuko clan was comprised of many samurai, mixed with hired Ronin. They saw the shaded ninjas as dishonorable, and the Shogun gave orders to kill any ninjas on sight unless he gave other notice.

Meanwhile, Kyro ventured to a farm village that suffered from attacks from two other clans that clashed violently, with disregard for the village inhabitants. When Kyro and the others decided that it was time to retaliate, an old man did his best to guide Kyro to hone his skills and trained him to follow the path of a ninja. Armed with what tools they could find, Kyro and the men of the village fought against both sides, whichever giving them the best outcome at the time. They moved in such secret that the Shoguns of the warring clans knew nothing of their identities.

When the clans moved their battles elsewhere, Kyro and his companions decided to form a secret clan of ninja, who sold their services to the clans that warred across japan.

Name: Anatolius the Hellene

Time Period: 394 A.D.

Bio: Anatolius is a man of Greek birth, hailing from a family of carpenters. Having been baptised by a Nicene priest, Anatolius' early years were heavily influenced by faith and hard labour, forging him into a man of strength, piety, and staunch morals. In the nineteenth year of his life (379 A.D.), Anatolius would leave his humble beginnings to enlist in one of the empire's many field armies, the comitatenses. Under Theodosius, the recently ascended emperor in the east, Anatolius would first see combat against the Goths in Macedonia. However, Rome did not win the day, and the survivors were sent limping back to Thessaloniki.

With assistance from Gratian, Emperor in the west, the Goths were temporarily repulsed. It was during these times that Theodosius declared that Rome would embrace Nicene Christianity as the state religion, and worked to promulgate it throughout the empire's holdings. As for the conflict with the Goths, it would ultimately be settled through a treaty permitting them to settle below the Danube, on the condition that they agree to fight for the Empire (382 A.D.).

In the following year, Gratian was assassinated, leaving the pre-adolescent Valentinian II as Emperor in the west; furthermore, the general Magnus Maximus usurped the throne, and proclaimed himself emperor. Unable to challenge the usurper at present, Theodosius would remain patient, and allow Magnus to 'legitimize' his claim over Gaul and Britain. Anatolius was called into service once more in 387, so as to retaliate against Magnus Maximus' invasion of Italy. Magnus' army was shattered in the Battle of the Save, and his supporters were slain in subsequent battles. Ultimately, Magnus was executed, seeing the (effectively powerless) Valentinian II restored as Emperor in the west. For all intents and purposes, Flavius Theodosius Augustus was the sole emperor.

In recognition of his valiance in the war to depose the usurper, Anatolius was assigned to serve in the Herculiani Iuniores. Thus, he would continue to serve proudly under the Magister Militum Praesentalis, one of the two senior generals directly below the Emperor himself.

Anatolius' final campaign would occur some years later (394), resulting from yet another succession crisis. Following a failed initial assault against the armies of the usurper Eugenius, Theodosius' forces were assisted by the heavens themselves, as great cyclonic winds served to break the enemy lines. But, just as victory was assured, disaster befell Anatolius. A bolt of lightning, emanating seemingly from nowhere, struck his sword. Rather than slay him where he stood, the bolt instead whisked Anatolius away from the field, and deposited the legionary in a wholly separate plane of existence.

Personality: For the most part, Anatolius is a humble and reserved man, more inclined to attribute his successes to divine providence or combined effort rather than his own talent. He refrains from indulging in what he considers 'material excesses,' and seeks to live an ordered and regimented life. In the heat of battle, however, the courage for which his fellows knew him becomes apparent. With rousing rhetoric (and a penchant for shouting), he is adept at rallying his comrades against what may appear to be insurmountable odds. While lacking a formal education in tactical matters, the battlefield has served as a teacher in its own right, granting Anatolius an almost instinctual ability to acknowledge and react to changing situations in combat.

Note: In regards to his name, to my understanding, Christian Romans preferred a single name system, while the praenomens and cognomens of old became more akin to titles for powerful officials (e.g. Flavius Theodosius Augustus). As the character is a man of low status, I decided a single name made the most sense.

I decided to roll with a legionary from the waning years of the Western Empire (4th-5th Century A.D.), since you did say I could be a bit flexible with the time period.
