Yang Nguyen

Yang Nguyen

Appearance:

Yangis an easily noticeable person in most groups in Greenbriar High school due to his East Asian heritage and appearance. Yang has a particular mix of Taiwanese, Korean and Chinese roots within his family tree, his father was pure Taiwanese while his mother was half Korean and Chinese. Yang is clearly Asian in descent. He has short, thick, straight, dark brown hair, slanted brown eyes, a rounded face, thin lips, clear tanned skin, and stubble on his chin and jawline that took him months to grow out. He is on the shorter end at 5'8" and weighs at a petite 129 Ibs.

Yang hides his body under heavy or large articles of clothing, like sweaters that are two sizes too big, coats that go down to his knees, sleeves on shirts that go past his fingers, and pants that barely fit him while going over his feet, yet, shoes are the only thing he wears that fit him perfectly, as he has a particular love for shoes, he collects them and loves taking good care of them. Yang often wears natural colors, like grays, blacks, whites, browns, greens and blues, and the odd oranges, he rarely wears any other colors, which is odd since he has a rather'Colorful' personality, one would think a person like that wouldn't wear such dreary colors.

He walks with a slouch and head hung to the side more often than not, he steps are slow and quiet, often surprising people with how quiet his steps are, he has an air of relaxation and coolness to it, if a bit apathetic.

Personality:

Yang at a first glances seem like a stereotypical millennial, he can be rather lazy, apathetic, technologically inclined and a little rebellious. But the truth of the matter is that he has a different work motto then most others, which is "Work before rest". Yang hates being ordered around by other, but when left alone to his devices he does everything he needs to do on his own expediently and without skipping a beat. He is learned and well spoken, but one wouldn't guess that which how quiet and soft spoken he is, but his words has an edge to it when talking to people who are bossing him around or demanding something he feels they don't deserve.

Although he can be rather Apathetic and sometimes sharp tongued at bossy and demanding people, he is considerate of others feelings but at times he can be rather blunt at times saying what he feels even if it shouldn't be heard at the moment or it might be hurtful. Which leads to his no-nonsense personality when it comes, to computers, etiquette, cleanliness, manners, and just common sense. He refuses to take nonsense from anybody, rather they're close friends or family, it doesn't matter, he won't take their nonsense.

Background:

The only child of Jason Nguyen and Jaehee Bae-Nguyen, a couple who immigrated to Greenbriar from Taiwan a whole year before the 'The Greenbriar Miracle'. They could barely speak a paragraph of English between the two but they made it work, Jason got a job as a pharmacist with his medical degree from Taiwan and Jaehee worked at a restaurant at Beach Street part time until she gotten pregnant a few years down the road. The two were in high spirits when Jaehee was with child, but a few months later, a strange event caused many miscarriages, still birth and sickly babies that died within days, the young couple were scared to death that their child would die before he was born. But months later, Yang was born healthy and strong, a rarity in those times, the couple happy to have a healthy baby boy named him Yang, their first child and only child.

Yang was spoiled, he was given everything a child could ever need, love, toys and food. But although he was spoiled by his parents he was still taught manners and cleanliness at a young age and quickly associated doing either as getting to rest faster. Yang was taught both Korean and English at a young age, Taiwanese by his parents and English by school, friends, internet and TV. An early memory of his was helping his parents with English words and sentences, this would last until his adolescence, Yang was never ashamed of his Asian Heritage or his family's accent, actually he grew a deep appreciation for his parent's hard working attitudes and kindness, which while he appreciated very much he couldn't be as kind as his parents, it just wasn't in his nature, but he tries his best. As Yang grew older and older, he became lazier and apathetic to many things, a thing that happens to spoiled teenagers, but his marks and relationships with his friends stayed the same, they just have a muted sense to them to him, he feels everything is pointless and it is not worth the extra effort, but he does it anyways for his parents and friends. He doesn't want to upset them. But with College on the horizon, he is starting to feel things normally again. Stress and anxiety.

Name: Bae Sun Li

Appearance:


Bae makes her own clothing and accessories. Her sense of style is not always understood by others. She is always seen carrying around at least one bag, as she likes to tote around projects to work on throughout the day, between the bags and jangling accessories you can hear her coming a classroom away. She is also sometimes called ‘the bag lady’ as a jest or jab by her classmates. She also walks with an uneven gait and a slight limp due to one of her hips and spine being uneven, and her right leg medially rotated inward.

Personality: Bae is a cautious and high strung girl. The level of anxiety she operates at leaves her reactions and many of her mannerisms somewhat clumsy and ungraceful. She hates being still, and will always keep a project on hand to keep herself busy in any moment of off-time that may occur. She will be seen knitting under her desk, embroidering at lunch, beading on the bus… etc. She puts her busy mind to good use, and has an etsy shop where she sells quilts and other creations. She attends conventions and fairs to show off her costuming skills in cosplay or historical reproduction.

Her grandparents, who raised her and whom she lives with, are extremely conservative in their values and views.

They are unaware that she self-medicates her anxiety with a particular herbal remedy. She would die before asking her grandparents for medical marijuana, so, she buys it in seceret. It is the only thing that she has found to mellow her mind. She loves crafting and doing art while high, it is one of her favorite pastimes with her best friend, Cedar. They get together, do homework, and when that is done the two girls zone out, smoke out, and do art.

Bae is also somewhat repressed. It became clear to her as she entered puberty that she was very very gay. She is not out at school or in her family. She fears her grandparents would disown her, they chat about arranging her marriage from time to time! Bae has never dated in school, always saying she was too busy to do so or not interested in this or that particular person. Under that excuse, she is very lonely, but terrified to express herself fully.

She dreams of college. She wants to go to school in San Francisco for fashion or theatre costuming. There, she will be able to live how she wants, maybe even find a girlfriend, and her grandparents would be far away in Oregon and never have to know...

Her and her best friend are also very socially aware… ish. They keep up on the news, blogs, and popular tumblr social issues. They participate as much as one can in a very small rural town and their activism seldom moves beyond the confines of the foggy bedroom. Bae will sew or knit things for charity, scarves for women's shelters and sweaters for penguins. Though she cringes during church activities, she likes the charity and helpful work they do. Cedar is a bit more outspoken on her blog, she latches onto scandal and conspiracy theories with enthusiasm. Bae bites her tongue much more than Cedar, but, supports Cedar in all her endeavors, opinions, and tumblr posts.

She is a good student, she keeps up her grades to keep her grandparents off her back, and in the hope that she can obtain a scholarship and go to college out of state.

Likes: Sewing and related crafts, fashion, costuming, theatre, conventions, faires, weed, popcorn, politics, classical music, theatre, movies!

Dislikes: Salad, heavy metal, church, sports, exercise, manual labor, social inequality!

Hobbies: Sewing, quilting, embroidery, knitting, crochet, all needlecrafts, cosplay, costuming,

Background:

Bae was raised by her grandparents. Her grandparents and mother are Korean, and her father is... unknown. Her grandfather is an acupuncturist and practitioner of traditional korean medicines, and her grandmother is a tailor and seamstress. Their daughter is Bae’s mother.

Business is slowing for her grandmother; the decline in population means a decline in prom dresses to hem, less wedding dresses and bridesmaid dresses to fit… Less enthusiasm to get married and start a family... While her grandfather's business grew, when the regular medical system fails to explain or prevent sickness and miscarriages, people begin to open their minds for alternative medicine. They are still lower-middle class, and could likely not afford an expensive college for Bae.

From what Bae understands, she is the product of a one-night-stand with a sailor or navy man that vanished over the ocean never to return. The birth was very difficult. Bae had a twin brother that died during delivery, and Bae’s mother died as well. Bae did leave unscathed from her birthday, she has a deformation in her skeleton, her spine is twisted near the hip and her right leg turned in, giving her a slight limping gait.

Her grandparents were very strict with her. They spoke highly of her mother and their family pride. They raised her very conservatively. She had to keep her grades up, do a lot of chores, learn to cook, be polite, help her grandmother who taught her to sew and encouraged her to develop her sewing talents. She always had the best halloween costumes!

She connected with her best friend, Cedar Tree Indigo Moonfeather Smith, in freshman year of school when Cedar’s family moved into town. Cedar is the daughter of two true hippies. Her father finally sold out to the man and became a doctor, her mother was content to be a stay at home hippie-mom and have netflix. Cedar is an artistic soul, but is more into painting and fine arts than crafting like Bae. She is also into gardening and ‘herbology’, growing her own herbs that she sometimes shares with or sells to her classmates, her garden is a bit infamous.

In high school she studied hard, discovered the herb that cures, started an etsy shop, and is ready to be graduated and is antsy to leave town and live a life she has only imagined so far.

So the names are like... More than one name similar. XD. So... Would you like to change your character's name or would you like me to? I'm attached to the "Bae" I played this character in the earlier version of the rpg but I can change the other part take the 'Sun' out or whatever to make the names more different.

Cool. My next question was going to be if you think my characters grandparents and your characters parents should have some connection? Though now that you have changed him to Taiwanese maybe it is more casual, or, not that big of a deal XD.

Victoria Williams

Name: Victoria Williams

Appearance:

Victoria likes to think herself average. She wears a lot of flannels and skinny jeans paired with converse. Her long brunette hair is normally fashioned into a braid that she likes to incorporate flowers into. For makeup, Victoria believes in less is more. She does have multiple ear piercings, including an industrial bar in her left ear. On top of the piercings, she has a globe tattooed on her right wrist, a simple reminder of the world she loves and the planet that provides the environment she gains so much inspiration from.

Personality: Victoria is very sweet and bubbly. She has an infectious personality and tries her hardest to be nice and friendly to all. Her friends describe her as very loyal; Victoria is the girl that will show up at your house at 1 am with ice cream if you need her. Victoria's main motivation in life is to be the best she can be. This includes how she treats people. She firmly believes in the golden rule, and will give anybody a chance.

Dislikes: Ketchup, horror movies, surprises

Hobbies: Victoria likes to spend a lot of time out in nature, so she has a few outdoor hobbies. These include plant/flower identification, hiking, and bird watching.

Background: When Victoria's mother, Ashley, was pregnant, she and her husband, Ryan, chose to move to Riverview. Ashley and Ryan decided that being pregnant in Greenbriar was too depressing. They didn't want to be around all the sadness and chose that having a little bit of distance would be best for all.

Once Victoria was born, her parents chose to stay in Riverview indefinitely. For the first 17 years of her life, nothing big happened. Victoria always enjoyed the outdoors and joined nature clubs in middle school and early high school. She had plenty of friends and even had a few boyfriends throughout the years.

When her senior year of high school rolled around, Victoria's parents decided to move back to Greenbriar. They wanted their daughter to graduate from Greenbriar, just like they both had. Victoria was a little upset about moving, but Riverview wasn't far, in fact, many Greenbriar teens spent a lot of time at Riverview. So Victoria tried to stay positive and made the best of her senior year.
