1932, Otropolis

Ten years ago, a crisis occurred across the world. Humans sprung up, displaying incredible abilities. A great divide occurred, between those who use the powers for good or not at all, and those who used their talents for their own personal gain. Otropolis is a hidden city of America, blanketed under a crime wave caused by the mafia gangs. The Law desperately try to combat the Mafia operations, new technology aiding their fight against the 'Supers' that control the city. Fear run through the streets, and everyone looks at each other with a shifty eye. The four families are the true rulers, and constantly war with each other, vying for control of Otropolis. Your allegiance lies with the East Canaglia gang, also known as the East Scoundrels. Godfather Michael Corvi commands the Canaglia Mafia, and welcomes his family with open arms. However, pressure has risen, and after ruling his area for so long, he's been pushed in a position to force his hand, and war between the other gangs has been called. Will you devastate the city in your wake, or slyly sway control in your favour in your true family's name?

So that is a brief intro to Omertà. You will be playing a mafia with superpowers who battle for control for the whole city of Otropolis. Below you will find the rules and the CS template, as well as a brief synopsis into the four gangs of Otropolis. Enjoy!

C'mon guys, it's the normal rules you'd expect from any other roleplay. No godmodding, No OP superpowers etc, etc. Over the roleplay, the police WILL be developing counter measures to the 'Supers', so you will become vulnerable. If you have a problem, be sensible and message me or the person with issues and it will be dealt with. That's all I'm gonna say about that.

The Gangs

The East Canaglia Gang

"What's mine is yours."- Michael Corvi

Your family. The East Canaglia Gang look after their own and uphold a code of honour. The gang is your first and last call if you're having a problem in their territory. They accept a whole slew of 'Supers' into their family. The East Canaglia Gang is headed by Godfather Michael Corvi, a mysterious 'Super' with an unknown power who deeply cares for the wellbeing of his family. One thing is for certain. If you've crossed the family, and by proxy, him, you will be visiting his 'backroom'. Once the door reopens in the backroom, all that is left is him and a pile of dust. The gang runs a variety of operations, but now the pressure is on to expand their territory, or be crushed underneath another gang.

The North Scharole Highrollers

"I live a fine life, and I'm a fine businessman. I make problems disappear like that."- Don Scharole

Money talks, and the Scharole Highrollers use theirs to comfortably rule the North of Otropolis. Money laundering, loan sharking and choking out the banks funnel money to Don Scharole. They're known for dining with celebrities, politicians and police officers alike, anyone under their payroll. Corrupting the biggest moneymakers to create a public face to fool the citizens is how they control their territory, and Don thoroughly believes that every man has their price. So far, that is true.

The West Barones

"Smash and Grab, boys!"- Cassandra Feroce

Opposite to the Scoundrels, the Barons run riot amongst the West area, and you do not mess with the Baroness. Each member of the West Barones inherit some form of power derived from an animal, and they use brute force to run their operations. Robberies, illegal fights. If there is violence, the Barones run that kind of job. Cassandra Feroce, a fierce Godmother who inherits a tiger's abilities. She eviscerates those she negotiates with, and mauls those who look at her wrong. You'll always get outmuscled in the West Barones territory.

The South Cosa Nostra

"You come to my area, you'll fall down a bottomless spiral, and I'll keep my coils around you for life."- Ulric Drogato

Drugs, gambling, hookers, alcohol. When you come to the South, The Cosa Nostra provides every kind of vice you can think of. For a high price. You pay up for the vice you've chosen. Whether you like it or not. Ulric uses hypnotic abilities to lull unsuspecting pray into his trap of debauchery and misfortune. His gang operates in the shadows, sometimes dragging their targets in with them. The entire south district has become a deadly trap that few survive when Ulric decides it's the end of your course.

Personality: Valoran is reserved, quiet and loyal. He does not like to resort to violence, keeping it as a last resort. He is well known for being the most calm person in the room and often called "The Sage" for meditative he seems. He himself doesn't see that though as of late, people question his moniker...

History: Valoran grew up with the Family. It's been his home since Don Corvi took him off the streets. His life was saved that day, as he was having trouble developing his power, he had hurt many people, one of the Don's own, but he couldn't help it... Despite the rough start, he forged a path that could only be described just short of mysterious. His ability to retrieve people and things was strange... As he could just pull them from nothing... His best skills were his stealth and interrogation. The man once sneaked past a whole squadron of policemen in broad daylight, and he's able to weasel information from nearly anyone.

Valoran had a lover once... But he was lured into the South side of town... His body turned up in the river a few weeks later... Valoran hasn't forgotten about it, a rage so great he would have gone to attack the south had not he'd been threatened with he Back Room. He has a son, Vance who is 13. He was the result of a weekend of drinking and partying that Valoran regretted. But he absolutely adores his son, and he's fiercely protective of him.

Power: Spatial Distortion. Using his power, Valoran can distort space around him in his line of sight. It's effective zone is thirty feet all around him, and it gets weaker the further it goes. It's strongest application is touch, and he is essentially bulletproof, but he can be affected by gas. He gained this power at a young age and it was hard to control. Now, he uses it mainly to shield himself from attacks passively, and to stealth effectively.

Extra: Valoran likes to stargaze, and has brushed death several times.

Personality: Tyler is the more caring member of the Canaglia Mafia, but his caring side can quickly be dismissed in the face of adversity. Tyler loves to read, write, and sing. He is very good with math, and enjoyed meditating. He no longer deals with relationships since his last ended in his significant other’s death. Though a part of a gang, Tyler is understanding, but he doesn’t let his personal life interfere with his duties. When he talks to those he doesn’t like or views as beneath him, he speaks in a rather monotonous way unless he respects them.

History: Tyler joined the Canaglia Mafia by request. He would use his gifts to peer into the future, but only to the Godfather that paid the most, that is until his lover was killed. There isn’t any special story that comes along with Tyler. He was born, and his innate abilities showed up when he was young, but he never trained them anymore than to perform cheap parlor tricks to get money while on the streets. His parents were killed because of what they knew. He met a man when he was around twelve years of age, someone like him, a oracle of sorts. This man introduced him to the world of the supernatural and passed on his teachings before he was killed. Tyler’s lover, another magician was also killed because of his gifts, but when Michael Corvi offered him refuge, Tyler in turn offered his service. This happened when he was the age of eighteen and he has been loyal ever since. He has shown Michael the true nature of those that would betray him, he has shown him bits and pieces of the future. Tyler is who he is, and serves the Canaglia Mafia without hesitation, but only upon Godfather Corvi's word.

Power: Magic - Quite literally magic is the use of rituals, symbols, actions, gestures, and language with the aim of exploiting supernatural forces. Magic in any sense requires the user to tap into the arcane power that flows throughout the universe. There are very few who are gifted to tap into this power, and without training will surely end up dead. Tyler is one such individual who has been trained to tap into the power of the Arcane vein and wield it with deadly precision. There are limitations to magic, and there are classes to which one is assigned when they discover their ability to tap into magic. Tyler is adept in divine magic, magic dealing with healing and destruction. His magic focuses on the mind, and the power it can produce. The energy that can be drawn from magic and the power to alter oneself physically. He can also create hexes, and wards for protection or strength. The more powerful the spell he uses, the more draining it can be, and the more damage it does to his life force. His innate arcane energy protects his mind from infiltration(mental attacks) and his body from contaminates(toxins, etc).

Limitations: Spells require energy meaning he must recharge after casting depending on how powerful the spell that he casts is. His healing can only heal minor wounds, deep wounds will require potions that take a lot of time to prepare. Wards take at least an hour to prepare, and usually can only be placed on structures, but he can also place wards on individuals however they last for about an hour before dissipating. His will is his limitation. He must be able to speak and move his hands for specific spells and incantations, otherwise, he must rely on his skills. The will of a target must be weaker than his own for his infiltration to work. If he delves into the mind of a stronger will, he can be cast out and will incur injury.

Extra:
-Tyler carries two daggers designed for him that he keeps strapped to his back in arms reach. They are around 12 inches in length from handle to tip of blade.
-Magician is a nickname his lover Andre gave him before his untimely death.

Personality: Confident but not arrogant in both her abilities and looks. Has a sadistic side whenever her victims are dying of her venom even smiling while it is happening. But if anything, she is loyal and respectful to those on her side having a professional yet friendly attitude to those in the Gang. When completing tasks, she is serious and objective, doesn’t play around unless when it comes to someone begging for their life. Bella is well known for being merciless and cruel towards those she is torturing, enlisting fear to enemies who hear the name “Night Shade.”
She’s not one to get her hands dirty unless it’s necessary or enjoyable, her soldiers do most of the killing for her. Often times they’ll hold down victims so that Bella may inject her venom into them.
History:
When Bella took her first breath, so did the poison inside of her. As her mother was giving birth to her, Bella’s body uncontrollably injected venom into her mother, killing her. As she cried and screamed, poisonous gas exhaled from her mouth killing everyone else inside the hospital room. It was a freak tragedy, and it was during this time that the North Scharole Highrollers heard about a “deadly poison baby” and kidnapped her to use her powers for their advantage. For 7 years she was locked up and was forced to learn how to control her power and produce poison for the Highrollers. It wasn’t until a rival mafia, an officer from the East Canaglia Gang found her and took her away from the Highrollers. It was then she was raised by the Gang, who helped her fully control her powers and gave her for the first time in her life- freewill. Ironically she used this free will to be part of the Gang, becoming one of the most loyal members to date.
Power: Deadly Spring
Bella secretes any type of poison and venom from her body in multiple ways (mainly forms it from her hand and mouth). This also makes her immune to all types of poison and venom
Some ways she uses her power: Simply touching exposed skin injects venom and spreads throughout the body. Exhaling poisonous gas from her mouth like smoke and can kill if inhaled.

Nadia Felmoth

Name: Nadia Felmoth

Position: Intelligence (she is literally the fly on the wall)

Specialty: infiltration, stealth, fighting

Personality: Nadia is easy to get along with, and most would not assume she was part of the mafia as she is generally carefree and happy unless provoked. It is when provoked that she becomes hotheaded and impulsive when not kept in check. She has absolutely no problem letting lose on someone if need be and is just as happy to do so as she would be to make a new friend or meet a new family member.

History: Nadia was born into the family from super powered parents. Both coincidentally were shape shifters though in two different ways. She inherited her powers from her parents and showed signs of exhibiting these abilities before she can remember. Her father capable of human shapeshifting and her mother capable of animal shapeshifting. She learned how to use her powers from an early age, though she exhibited restrictions neither of her parents had, a likely result of second generation powers.

When she was 10 her father was caught by an enemy gang and was never found. Likely interrogated and killed. Six years later her mother died of illness, leaving a 16 year old Nadia to take a place in the family, something her parents had been trying to avoid until she was older. Sure she had all the training but they wanted her to have a childhood before she officially joined. It didn't take long for her to earn the same respect her parents had and she has been a loyal member of the family since.

Power: Human shapeshifting- Nadia can shape shift into any person she has personally seen, this does not, for some reason, count people seen on television or cameras. Her cloths, eye color, and voice do not change with her and her height does not fluctuate with the shift her weight and body type do change. Meaning her targets have to be of the same height and eye color as herself, but do not have to have the same body type or weight. These shifts only last for about an hour and tire her out drastically the longer they are held.

Animal shapeshifting: Nadia can shapeshifting into any know animal so long as it is visible to the naked eye Her eyes still do not change unless the creature she is shifting into has specialized eyes (example being a fly) and her clothes still do not shift with her. She is capable of human speech in these forms and does not have the capability to create the sounds of the animals she shifts into. Her sense are heightened to the appropriate ability of the animal she chooses. Her size does change according to the animal she shifts into (it is unknown why this does not occur in her human shifts) but said shifts cause considerable pain into and out of the form. She can stay in these forms for about two hours, however the more she shifts between forms the more exhausted she becomes and the less amount of time she can remain in a shifted form.

General weakness: As she does not gain any extra durability in either form other than what the shift allows she is still vulnerable to anything that can kill or harm a human or the animal form she has shifted into. So yes, she could still be squashed if she were to shifts into a small bug or rodent.

Personality: Tries his best to appear as a calm and stoic, but his little patience and hair trigger temper makes this quickly fall apart. Because of his upbringing he has a deep grudge for people that gamble their money, because of his upbringing too Cesar feels that he needs to repay every favor and debt in hopes to not become likes his parents.

History: Born in the slums Cesar had the misfortune of having parents that had a very big gambling addictions as such he was forced to get in a lot of odd jobs to help his parents pay their debt. As time went on they started relying him more and more of him to take care of their debt, beating him when he refused to give the money he gained from his jobs, but the debt keep growing and growing until he was sleep deprivation for the little hours he slept.

One day Cesar arrived home to find his house empty, looking as it was ransacked, this initially made him worry “Perhaps the mafia got tired of them not paying in time?” he thought as he searched the house in search for a clue about what happened. Cesar would find his answer on his room, that was mostly untouched. On his bed there was a letter that Cesar grabbed with his trembling hands, his head was swarmed with ideas about what did the card said. He cleared his head and opened the letter and started reading.

He had not finished the letter and the only emotion he had in his mind was rage, the card was written by his parents and detailed their reasons for leaving the city and freeing themselves of the debt. Something clicked that day, the anger he felt to his parents for making him work to death and then abandoning him made him awaken dead heat.

Since it was the first time he used dead heat he couldn't be in it for more than 2 minutes and left him some burns and bruises on his arms after that, but it was still enough time for him to vent his anger on the already trashed house destroying a few furnitures in the process. After that Cesar lay on the floor wondering what he would do next when the front door opened and a suited man entered the house. Apparently his parents hadn't been sneaky enough to leave town without the mafia noticing it. As the man asked Cesar questions about his parents last whereabouts before they dissapeared he noticed the destroyed furniture and the injuries in his Cesar's arms

When asked about it Cesar replied it was he had done it in a fit of rage explaining that he didnt know how he managed to break the furniture with just his hands. Interested in the strenght of the boy the man offered to give him a place to stay and a good pay in exchange of working with the mafia. With no other place to go Cesar accepted the offer and worked as the muscle of the mafia and to intimidate people thinking that they could just escape paying their debt, using his enchanced strenght and the beat of his heart to scare them.

Power:
Dead heat: by concentrating or being angry enough, Cesar can enter a state he calls dead heat were his skin turns reddish and the beats of his heart start to grow louder and louder, to the point it it's as noisy as a car engine. While in this state his speed, strength, reflexes, and body temperature increase the more time he is on it. The maximum he can last without doing damage to himself by overheating is 10 minutes, where at this point he can break concrete with little problem and deal small burns with the temperature of his body.

Its main weakness is that using dead heat increases his body temperature, to the point where it can cause burns on his body if he is in it long enough. Dead heat also increases his rage levels the more time he is in it, so he needs self control to avoid attacking recklessly.

Standing roughly at five foot seven, thanks to her rather athletic build she can come off as a bit intimidating to some people. Her snarky, somewhat hostile demeanor doesn't help either. Aside from that, Kat has fairly obvious muscles that could likely put a few men to shame and cause them to question their own masculinity.

As far as clothing goes, She is a fan of simple attire. In her every day environment, Kat prefers easy to move in pants with sturdy boots and an airy, light shirt that can breathe easily. When on the job, her attire typically varies depending on the situation. It can go from classy clothing, to something a bit more indicative of subterfuge. Whatever gets the job done. She can often be seen smoking a cigarette, or drinking the strongest alcohol she can get her hands on.

Fighting/'taking care of problems.'

Personality:
Violent, has a bit of an anger problem, and prefers solving things with her guns rather than peaceful solutions. She's far from what one might expect of a woman in this day and age.

Despite her anger and tendency to shoot first and ask later, Kat is usually pretty friendly. To her comrades and people she works with, she's fairly amicable, though she's definitely a bit of a sarcastic jackass. Anyone is fair game for her snark and insults. Even herself, if she does something stupid. If someone has a problem with that, they can talk to either her boot or the end of her gun. Despite her rather violent and snarky behavior, mistaking her for a simple minded brute would be asking to get killed. While she isn't exactly book smarts, one doesn't live on the street as long as she has and not get clever or creative.

She is also incredibly loyal to anyone she works for. She says she'll do something, she'll do it or she'll die trying.

History:
Kat doesn't like talking much about her past. Not that its anything particularly special. She's always been a bit of a bad seed - growing up on the streets because her family was poor didn't exactly help either. She never really had much of a chance to excel or behave like a normal kid should. Not that she ever particularly cared. She had her own little gang of misfits she ran with from the time she was fifteen until she was eighteen and got up to plenty of trouble. Pissing of the cops just because she could, was one of her favorite pastimes. Vandalism, breaking and entering, and a whole slew of other misdemeanors until she turned eighteen.

It wasn't much of a surprise she ended up on the wrong side of the law afterwards either. She just got smarter about it. Jail wasn't fun. She grew up around some shady people, and asked if they had any 'work' for her of the not so glamorous kind. Calling in a favor from a friend was easy enough, and after he asked around a bit he found someone willing to give her a bit of a job. Someone had been rattin' on the family to the police, and the Godfather wanted him 'taken' care of and made an example of.

Arguably, it was a difficult request. The guy had police protection and everything, and she was just one slightly more than average skilled street urchin who had a hobby of working out and kicking people if they pissed her off. Really, she should have died - she took a bullet to the head from the guy after she took care of his police detail.

Yet, she didn't. The bullet bounced off some unseen barrier in front of her. She had no idea what happened at the time, but she didn't waste the chance to make an example of the guy like the boss wanted. She came back to a job well done and a hefty sum of money waiting for her. After that, she got a steady stream of work from them whenever they needed someone with muscle or to take care of something. She's been fascinated with this little ability of hers, and has been working on flexing the proverbial muscle for it wherever she gets the chance.

Power:
To put simply, Kat generates a localized force-field around herself. This field, forcefully rejects any sort of foreign matter that tries to get in. Basically, she's always covered in what we might call a 'shield'. Bullets bounce off, punches are halted in their tracks...she's called 'Aegis' by some for a reason. This semi-permeable field is around her at almost all times, and she has limited control over the size of it, and using her as a center she can extend it to about roughly five yards away from her in all directions. The strength of it, of course decreasing the larger it is.

Usually, though, she simply keeps the field on a more personal level - typically around herself. As it is semi-permeable to an extent, she can somewhat choose what passes through this field and what doesn't. Solid and liquids are halted typically with some difficulty, but gasses go right through it.

The field, of course, is far from impenetrable. The field can roughly withstand the same force as your average brick wall. A sufficiently high-powered gun could easily punch through it. Likewise, prolonged exposure to any continuous sort of damage has visible effects on Kats physical state. At worst, it could lead to a deadly brain hemorrhage. Strength can vary somewhat, depending on how much focus she puts into it.

Can be used somewhat offensively, as she can 'punch' something without hurting herself, since her body is covered in a durable thin layer of armor. Likewise, she can use the it to lift weight a bit outside the normal human realm rather easily, though it puts a great strain on her abilities and at most she could stop/lift roughly 250lbs~ of force.

She assumes she could theoretically get better with time and practice.

Extra:
- Likes Mexican and spicy, exotic foods.
- Has been at least somewhat trained in close quarters combat.
- Can reasonably well do some breaking and entering.

She is also incredibly loyal to anyone she works for. She says she'll do something, she'll do it or she'll die trying.

History:
Kat doesn't like talking much about her past. Not that its anything particularly special. She's always been a bit of a bad seed - growing up on the streets because her family was poor didn't exactly help either. She never really had much of a chance to excel or behave like a normal kid should. Not that she ever particularly cared. She had her own little gang of misfits she ran with from the time she was fifteen until she was eighteen and got up to plenty of trouble. Pissing of the cops just because she could, was one of her favorite pastimes. Vandalism, breaking and entering, and a whole slew of other misdemeanors until she turned eighteen.

It wasn't much of a surprise she ended up on the wrong side of the law afterwards either. She just got smarter about it. Jail wasn't fun. She grew up around some shady people, and asked if they had any 'work' for her of the not so glamorous kind. Calling in a favor from a friend was easy enough, and after he asked around a bit he found someone willing to give her a bit of a job. Someone had been rattin' on the family to the police, and the Godfather wanted him 'taken' care of and made an example of.

Arguably, it was a difficult request. The guy had police protection and everything, and she was just one slightly more than average skilled street urchin who had a hobby of working out and kicking people if they pissed her off. Really, she should have died - she took a bullet to the head from the guy after she took care of his police detail.

Yet, she didn't. The bullet bounced off some unseen barrier in front of her. She had no idea what happened at the time, but she didn't waste the chance to make an example of the guy like the boss wanted. She came back to a job well done and a hefty sum of money waiting for her. After that, she got a steady stream of work from them whenever they needed someone with muscle or to take care of something. She's been fascinated with this little ability of hers, and has been working on flexing the proverbial muscle for it wherever she gets the chance.

Power:
To put simply, Kat generates a localized force-field around herself. This field, forcefully rejects any sort of foreign matter that tries to get in. Basically, she's always covered in what we might call a 'shield'. Bullets bounce off, punches are halted in their tracks...she's called 'Aegis' by some for a reason. This semi-permeable field is around her at almost all times, and she has limited control over the size of it, and using her as a center she can extend it to about roughly five yards away from her in all directions. The strength of it, of course decreasing the larger it is.

Usually, though, she simply keeps the field on a more personal level - typically around herself. As it is semi-permeable to an extent, she can somewhat choose what passes through this field and what doesn't. Solid and liquids are halted typically with some difficulty, but gasses go right through it.

The field, of course, is far from impenetrable. The field can roughly withstand the same force as your average brick wall. A sufficiently high-powered gun could easily punch through it. Likewise, prolonged exposure to any continuous sort of damage has visible effects on Kats physical state. At worst, it could lead to a deadly brain hemorrhage. Strength can vary somewhat, depending on how much focus she puts into it.

Can be used somewhat offensively, as she can 'punch' something without hurting herself, since her body is covered in a durable thin layer of armor. Likewise, she can use the it to lift weight a bit outside the normal human realm rather easily, though it puts a great strain on her abilities and at most she could stop/lift roughly 250lbs~ of force.

She assumes she could theoretically get better with time and practice.

Extra:
- Likes Mexican and spicy, exotic foods.
- Has been at least somewhat trained in close quarters combat.
- Can reasonably well do some breaking and entering.

Bella sees a lot of the older members somewhat as family since they basically raised her. As for any younger/newer members (or anyone immature), she'll be a bit harsh on them only because she wants them to live up to a good standard.
