I don't think you understand. Your creating a character based solely on either relying or being reliant to others. In the real world, were you born to serve your brother or sister? No. Everyone has their own path, agenda, life goals. Creating a character that helps others in hopes of getting help finding his parents murderers is like gowing to a waterpark in hopes that others will teach you how to swim. Its just backwards.

Its not that you want to interact with other players, its that your building a character just for that very reason

Yeah, as I said. I built my character to interact with other characters. That is why I am leaving. I don't want to do an Roleplay where I don't play with other people, because then it isn't roleplaying

I'm going to give my two cents here, and try to sum up everything:

Aeon doesn't want an RP where it's a group of players who are forced together for reasons that don't make sense. Most of the time those characters would be so different and so "ragtag"-ed that they would never work in a real world. This is a Roleplay where we each have our individual characters and a storyline. You saying that you want to try to get a group of characters together to complete your guy's goal goes against this. Why would any of the rest of our characters care about what happened to your guy?

I know it sounds a bit rude, but that's how it is. It's very unlikely that anyone would bother helping him. I know that, for my character at least, she wouldn't even consider helping him unless he could either give her something that would help her in her own agenda, or she had to do it regardless to complete her own goal.

From my point of view, it seems like you're trying to force a "Adventurers slay the dragon" scenario into this RP, which it was never even meant to be. Furthermore, what you see as a "True Roleplay" is the thing I mentioned before about slaying a dragon, but that's just one type of Roleplay. Roleplaying is taking on a "role," as in pretending to be someone you are not for one purpose or another, be it adapting to a social situation or playing a game like this one.

Look at it this way: This Roleplay isn't centered around just a small group of people, but an entire world. The scope is much grander which is why a small group of characters travelling together wouldn't work. Yes, you're right when you say that we each write our own story, and while our characters may interact with each other, that's not an important thing. At all.

The best analogy here isn't that we're Roleplaying characters, but Roleplaying the world around us, but we're multiple players about a single "character" (The island), and what we each do may have effect on what the others might do/what would happen to them.

You can interact with other characters, and seek them out (provided you get to know about them), but don't expect them to want to follow you if they have their own agenda. Actually... calling the Characters wouldn't be precise enough. What we're actually playing are People--each with their own personality and opinions, as well as wishes and wants. You're a stranger to them (unless you have agreed with someone else that your People know each other), so why would they care?

Again, it sounds rude, I know, but that's simply how it is.

Not everyone has been approved, as far as I know. Aeon does have his girlfriend to tend to, after all :p

Jokes aside, I believe we're nearing the point where we can start, seeing as two people have jumped ship, as well. I haven't really kept count, but I think we are a respectable number of players regardless.

I just looked through the pages, and it looks like we have 7 people who have actually submitted a character. And those 7 is without the two who jumped ship.

Name: Theocritus Hidrail

Race: Elven (Live for around 200 years)

Age: Actual: 56 Appeared: 25

Social Position: Noble

Job: Magical Researcher (Studies magical phenomena, mostly voidlings).

Special Gear: Shortsword (slightly enchanted), Staff of Ice.

Special Skills: Can summon great blizzards, but this consumes a lot of energy. Also good at enchanting

Magic: Uses elemental magic, preferably frost. Particularly gifted in manipulating ice and water.

Weaknesses: Fire magic, not that great at alchemy.

Backstory: Theocritus was born to the rich Hidrail family, who have passed down their knowledge of magic for centuries (sort of like the Telvanni's in the elder scrolls). His family's ties with magic have made Hidrail a bad word in Aelholt, and much of Arkarell. Theocritus was taught the art of elemental magic by his father at a young age, and chose to specialize in frost magic. When one of his best friends was killed by a voidling, Theocritus devoted himself to finding a way to easily destroy the voidlings and end their reign of terror. He has traveled all across Arkarell in search of something or someone who holds the answer. He believes that the answer lies where the master magi left off, and there is some form of enchantment that will prove to be extremely effective against voidlings. His interest is turned towards the man who washed onshore in Highmill, in hopes that the other peoples of the world have found an answer. Theocritus currently resides in Aelholt in the Hidrail manor.

You are quite wrong on that point, if you are indeed still lurking around this thread then here's some advice; Just leave. This is not what you want obviously, so basically we're just wasting time here. I do however, despite how rude I seem, wish you the best of luck in finding what you want, and enjoying it. It's a big world out there, go with peace my roleplaying brethren and find that which you seek.

I didn't read it, because I noticed the backstory was a single paragraph. This is advanced, and I hate to sound so elitist about this, But this is advanced.

I am starting to doubt that this site classes as functional -.-

Yeah, when I make a character, I tend to have a general idea of how I want them to operate, like say in a superhero game I might think of the character as someone who uses their powers and skills to infiltrate organised crime rings, get to a powerful position and coordinate with INTERPOL or whoever to perform an organisation-wide sting trap. I might have the concept of them doing that specifically, and then grow the character out by thinking what else someone who could do that could and would do. This means that I really enjoy making the posts about doing that and writing the parts of the CS about that and about how the character survives, lives and has fun outside of that. But the back story... Ehh, never really liked that, so it probably sounds very dry and cause and effect.

I usually grab a photo of a character off the internet and improvise off things in the picture. Obviously I give it my own twist but it seems fun to create life out of someone simple drawing
