Okay so yea this is where I kinda want to interact with everyone outside of any RPs I've created (or PMs). I just kinda want to talk to everyone. See what everyone wants to rant about or discuss in today's society. So here comes my first semi-rant. This Video ---> https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8xe6nLVXEC0 This is a rap done by YouTuber Boyinaband (aka Dave). So this rant was to be posted else were but I decided against it. So here come my common thinking of everyday life and how I find this video so easy to relate to as a student myself. This song is amazing. And before people get on me saying that he's saying that kids should drop out of school he specifically says in his comments "...isn't inferring students shouldn't stay in school, it's saying topics which aren't practically useful shouldn't stay in school. There are obviously a lot of benefits to getting an education, I'm just concerned that the topics are not prioritized well at all." He's saying that certain topics taught now aren't really important for us to learn. Seriously I agree with him on a lot he says here. The school systems are only teaching me mush instead of the stuff that would actually help me benefit in the real world. I see the points that he makes and it's amazing that in the final four years of school I face that I will more than likely learn none of this and me, I'm very active in many different things from music to forensics. And now realized before I'm even into my first year of high school that I will learn little to NOTHING about how to actually live in the real world. I'm thankful for what my parents are teaching me now about the real world but as I start to think, very few people have parents like mine. People without parents like mine will learn the hard way about the real world. It actually scares me that there will be people roaming around who don't know any of this. What are your guy's thoughts? Do you agree with Boyinaband and I or not and what's that reason?
Feel free to leave rants of your own or discussion topics. Meh, I don't even know if anyone will see this but I find it amazing to release any pent up anger I have.

Hello there! Decided to drop by here for a quick, little post. One, the video itself. I thought that the little animations that he had in there were interesting. Maybe a bit more organized but not too big of a deal. His rhythm could have used some work though. Rather, he should have chosen a different one. Felt a bit choppy at parts. Anyways, onto discussion stuffs. What you learn depends largely on what your school has to offer and what you decide to pursue outside of class yourself. Many schools will offer courses that teach the things that he says were not taught, such as economics. In fact, economics is an alternative to a mandatory class that many people choose to take. The teacher knows what she is doing and is able to explain the concepts well. All of these things that he considers as 'not immediately applicable to daily life' (paraphrasing here) largely depends on the people themselves. Quadratics won't help you much if you decide to become a writer or professional musician, no, but you sure as hell do need it for jobs such as engineering, astrophysics, particle physics, abstract mathematics, chemistry, architecture, etc. Difficult jobs to be sure but applicable nonetheless if you decide to go down that path. It is largely a matter of perspective as to what we think is important or not. I for one enjoy school, however much stress it brings me. But you know what? None of it really matters. Life, school, not schooling, jobs, homelessness. People care about these things, yes, but only because we make it so. Do whatever the hell you want with your life and as long as you enjoy it you won't be disappointed. If that includes running a drug ring or living in the wilds of Canada doing nothing but finishing, be my guest. If it means becoming CEO of a large venture company raking in billions a year, that's fine too. Viewpoints matter, most especially your own. If you don't think it's important, don't focus on it. Simple as that. Do what you're obligated to do and then ditch for something you consider more important. Or don't. Either way, in the end the world usually ends up the same as before. I have no idea what I just wrote so sorry if it seems disjointed or harsh but it is 12am here and I'm not thinking straight.

I probably understood about half of that. I have no real idea what my high school offers for classes but he is from England too so I don't know what is offered over there either.

I can understand where Boyinaband is coming from with his video, but I think he blew it out of proportion. Yes, there are plenty of things you will learn in school that you will never use in your working life, but they are not completely useless. You don't know what kind of career you're going to end up in when you graduate from school. Middle school and high school give you the basic knowledge you need in many different subjects to prepare you for college. Thus, you receive a well-rounded education to open up the doors to thousands of occupational opportunities in the future. As Durandal said, what is "important" depends on your own personal perspective. For example, you might think math is worthless and you'll never use it in life. Now, let's pretend schools let you choose your own classes. If you decided math isn't going to help you in life, you would exclude it from your curriculum. Now, your schedule is filled with classes you deemed as "important." There. Problem solved, right? Now, fast forward to the future when you're going into college. You decide you want to become an engineer because you like mechanics and the job pays extremely well. Unfortunately for you, you will be far behind in your education because you don't even have the basic mathematical skills you need to pursue this career. You might not even be able to catch up at this point. The door to engineering is closed to you forever because you made a poor decision when you were five years younger. Humans are extremely finicky by nature. I know this firsthand. Ever since my Freshman year of high school, I've changed my mind dozens of times. I wanted to be a Japanese teacher in America, an English teacher in Japan, a foreign ambassador, a Christian counselor, an interior designer, a musician, a composer, a conductor, ect... The list goes on. I'm only a Junior in high school now. Who knows what I'll want to major in by the time I graduate next year? If I had based my high school classes on what I thought was important at the time, I would be very poorly educated indeed. I started out Freshman year focused on languages, so I probably would have excluded math and science because they had nothing to do with being a Japanese/English teacher. Now, I'm starting to look into careers that require advanced math and some science. I'm thankful that my school has prepared me with the basics in both of these subjects. High school is a time to be prepared in many subjects. College is when you narrow down your options to the classes that interest you. In regards to being uneducated about the "real world," I agree that this is a problem in many schools. I can only suggest that you research your options at multiple different high schools and find one that can offer the classes you need. Government, economics, and self-reliance are all good classes to look for. History is also a good thing to study. As the saying goes: Those who do not remember the past are doomed to repeat it. I'm fortunate enough to go to a school where all of the classes I just mentioned are required subjects. Students at my school cannot graduate without passing them, and so we all come out with the tools we need to survive in the world. We can handle our finances, take care of our health, fix a car, cook our own food, make educated decisions about voting, understand politics, and plenty more. As more of a side note, I'm very impressed that you're thinking about things like this as a middle school student. Most of the junior highers I know only care about what's going on directly in front of them. It's a relief to see there are young students out there who actually care about the state of their education. You've given me hope for the future, so thank you, haha! :)
