http://www.reddit.com/r/CivilizatonExperiment/

There's a reddit forum for it, they are aware that the name is spelled wrong in the URL(character limit, apparently).

The world can be played on normal minecraft, though it is an earlier version (1.7.10) and there are several plugins to aid in the experiment.

The plugins are meant to make the formation of groups and civilizations necessary for survival, and the mods are, for the most part, very hands off. Disputes are supposed to be handled in game(very recently there was a large bit of drama that the mods got involved in, but it has since been resolved and is blowing over).

I can't list all the civilizations here, but there's a Rapture-esque underwater one, a Feudal Japan culturally inspired nation, a floating sky nation, a secretive redstone tech based one, and many more bland ones.

More in depth information can be found on the reddit forum.

I'm sort of already in something like that already, though weaker. It's more of a fantasy NRP with severe identity issues and an admin that's really weak in his authority and taste for confrontation.

Server Address:
142.4.211.221

I definitely suggest you read the sidebar stuff on the reddit page as well. It explains the rules. They're pretty lax in general, but they do exist. It wouldn't hurt to read a few posts there, but most of it is just community stuff.

And don't forget to change your minecraft version, or you won't be able to play.

And here's a link to a list of the plugins. It doesn't give all the information, but enough to work with, and you can look up the plugins individually or ask questions on the reddit.

And on yours, you're the only one who actually makes anything =p

I did get into a server like this. Unfortunately, the leader of my civilization liked to antagonize people and he ended up getting our city put to the torch.

One of the plugins is for anti griefing, called Citadel. Let's you "reinforce" blocks and objects(doors and chests reinforced this way will be locked). Makes it harder to do that sort of thing. What it does is basically makes the objects take more breaks to actually break. You can use stone, iron or diamond. Stone is 32 breaks, iron is like a hundred and something, and diamond is like three hundred and something. I think it's a really solid plugin, and it makes stone valuable, and increases the value of iron and diamond, so it beefs up the economy as well as preventing grief.

The game functions a lot like nation role plays, though not everyone(some do) actually "role play" their characters.

Griefing is pretty rare, mostly thanks to Citadel, and players who join for no other reason than to cause trouble usually get discouraged quickly and leave. The mods aren't "weak" so much as they choose not to interfere. The community is pretty strong, though. There are a lot of groups, and a handful of them are incredibly strong. They don't always get along, and there have been battles raids and war.

A note about nations: There's a lot that have been there for a long time, and those that are still around are pretty big and wealthy, and will gladly take new players in(usually on a probationary period). I don't advise trying to start your own nation, unless a lot of people from the Guild get in on one together(in which case I'd honestly probably jump ship from where I am and join). Lots of new players try to start nations and they almost always end up being one person groups that just get absorbed by the larger ones.

If it helps entice anyone, they're working on putting in a plugin that adds ships, airships, and submarines. It doesn't work very well at the moment, but they're revising it. There's no guarantee it will be added, but it's a possibility and you can play with the plugin in their test server.

Well every so often others get on, but I don't even think they know what they're doing.

Like there's sky scrapers in one place and Viking long houses in another. And when I challenge the admin for some enforcement of consistency on a sort of parallel and how things shouldn't be so scattered he defends the status quo with "It's unique".

Just wanna bump this.

There's a lot of empty space for new nations to settle, I think it would be cool if RPG had one.
