The sun rises on the world of Tethys. In the first cities to the long time wandering tribes, this is the beginning of an era when the people will make their marks on the world. Civilizations will rise and fall, nations will rise from obscurity or wither away into oblivion.

Oh, I left out a pretty important piece of information from my Interest Check. The civilizations are only supposed to be between the Paleolithic to Iron ages. I would be fine with your civilization if say, they had regressed back to the iron age after spending a significant amount of time on Tethys or something.

Well this would have been useful information to have carried over.

But if I do that then I'll be going into something I had in mind for another RP. So I'd rather keep my eggs consolidated. So I'mma have to pull out.

It'd be helpful if the information in the interest check was also put here, but anyway this is a thing.

Either I just made a completely underpowered race, or a completely overpowered one. Let's find out.

As a fellow cartographer, I'm floored by that map's quality. I'm nowhere near as good. How do you manage those mountains?

Full Name of Nation: League of Free Maritime Cities
Common Name: The League
Important cities:

Government Type: Loose confederacy of city-states, united with each other by a common ethnicity and a central government
- Central government: Elective monarchy (de facto), oligarchic republic (de jure)
- City governments: Varied, no absolute monarchies, but many constitutional monarchies, oligarchies, republics and even one or two proto-democracies.
Technological Level: Sophisticated iron-age civilisation - science and philosophy are practised often and encouraged. Education is deemed to be of great importance.
Demonym: Usually people of the League are referred to by their city's demonym, but phrases such as 'a fleet of League ships' or 'a flock of League sheep' are used, making the unofficial demonym of the entire League simply 'League'.
Dominant Species: Human, mostly tall, with European-white skin and varying eye and hair colours.
Cultural Traits:
- Clothing: White robes and togas are commonplace, and blue mantles and cloaks are a popular accessory.
- Architecture: Marble, a material highly prised by most League cities, is a common building material. Buildings mostly resemble ancient Greek or Roman structures.
- Society: As all constituent cities of the league are coastal, the ocean is very important in League society. Fishing is a major industry, and the dye of the sapphire mussel is one of the League's main exports.
Language: Asimian
Population: Approximately 450'000
History:

Military Type: The League relies heavily on its navy to protect its trade, and it therefore unable to sustain a long land-based campaign. To maintain its land territories, bowmen are patrolled around most cities as scouts or guards. If trouble is noticed, the guard reports back to the city and summons aid, although this aid is often too weak or few in number to repel the invasion. If such an event occurs, the navy delivers supplies and more aid to the besieged city while attempting to cut off any naval supply lines to the attackers. Land-based supply routes are also targets for interception, although attempts to disrupt such routes are far less successful.
Population in Military (%): Varies from city to city, but overall around 0.05%.

By the way, I didn't just write out all that history, it was from another rp that fell through :)

Here's a statistic for population comparison: The Roman Empire, generally regarded as placing a great deal of importance of on the military, had, at its height, at most 0.5% of its population serving in the military. You guys are talking about military in the double digits, for mechant states.

Just sayin'.

In terms of technology and military they are mostly roman/greek inspired while overall their style is the same but with the addition of some norse elements.
Of course culutre-wise they are no Athens and the roman part is alo closer to the pre-republican era.
Dwarven Lords are the leaders of each city but many of the important decisions require the rest of the adult dwarves to vote. There's a working justice system and such but otherwise they lack most bureaucratic elements. Traditions, customs and perception of honor also matters a lot for them.
Another thing to note that due to the abundance of iron all adult males possess their own piece of armor.
This also worked to propagate their nickname as ironskins.
As for politics the Dwarves are neutral and don't feel any ambition to expand to other borders. They also trade a lot albeit keep their more precious craftsmanships usually to themselves.
A number of Dwarves also decided to leave their cities and jurney the world as either mercenary or traveling craftsman, eventually returning to their home with all the experience they had gained.

Yep. Generally speaking 2% of a population is able to mobilize in times of war for feudal societies, while still being able to maintain food production at home.
