in my water survival class we had to swim a mile in full BDUs with boots, *or* swim 50 meters underwater in the same gear without coming up for air. I did both. Because I'm the boss.

But interesting trick -- you can tie your pant legs in knots, and turn them into a life preserver made out of pants. If you want.

I did not know that.

Than again all my swimming skills were gained in sport related activities and not survival.

Sometimes I wonder just how fucked I'd be of society collapses because I have like, no survival skills at all. I don't even know how to start a fire.

If there really is a silent majority, they have only doomed themselves to the outside perception they receive by not keeping the minority in check. It is up to people in the group to police the behavior of others. If they do not, they tactfully have enabled the vocal minority. Just like how a abbot is morally obligated to keep his monks in line. Let the lunatics rabble to on and they will color the culture, no matter how many of them exist.

That's the thing, 8chan isn't a 'they,' different boards generally have different posters who want to discuss different things. There are of course people who frequent multiple boards, but places like /pol/ and /b/ are literally containment boards for the things I think you think are endemic to every board on the website.

When I'm bored I enjoy reading survival guides, there's some crazy stuff your can do to survive. If you're dying of dehydration you can actually suck water out of animals' eyes, because the eyes hold the most water. There are less disgusting ways like distilling or collecting rain water, but that takes a long time. In a post-apocalyptic environment your best bet would be to find a spring, hide it, and then sell clean water to other survivors for goods or services so you can not only survive but profit.

I've just got a ton of random knowledge floating around in my head that I've never had the occasion to use, knowing and doing are two different things but I guess knowing is half the battle so I feel like if I found myself in a survival situation I'd have a fair chance.

And even than, wouldn't keeping the struggling animal in place while trying to suck water of its eyes take a lot of effort, since I've heard that if you are trying to survive high effort tasks when trying to survive is really risky.
