In Tyra’s Name

In the year 3490 of the New Era, a miner’s strike on the Imperial world of Klaus sparked off a conflict that would change the face of our galaxy. The people of Klaus rebelled against Imperial rule and dealt a crushing blow to the unprepared Imperial Navy, smashing once and for all the myth of Imperial invulnerability. The revolt spread like wildfire and within a matter of months, the rebels controlled a dozen systems in the Imperium’s industrial core. Enthused by neo-Marxist doctrine and under the leadership of the charismatic Chairperson of the People’s Committee for Peace and Freedom, the new-born nation called itself the People’s Army of Freedom and unleashed a mighty crusade upon the old Imperium.

After decades of bloody war, the PAF is on the verge of total victory, holding hundreds of worlds in a state of totalitarian dystopia. The Imperium is decimated, its ruling elite exiled to the fringes of their former domain. The democratic Republican League stands aloof, unwilling and unable to stop the spread of radical communism. With the PAF gearing up for a new war on the democracies of the galaxy, dozens of planets in the independent Unaligned Systems have fallen to their fleets.

On the free world of Tyra, a prosperous trade hub along the Imperial border, the privately financed Tyran Space Guard has accelerated its arms program. The first of a new generation of warship is ready to leave drydock, but her motley crew of alien drifters, corporate executives and mercenaries are unprepared for the doom that comes for their world.

No matter the odds, no matter how hopeless the battle may be, they shall fight.
In Tyra’s name.

Welcome to In Tyra’s Name, a space exploration and combat RP. The free world of Tyra finds itself under attack by the People’s Army of Freedom, a revolutionary movement dedicated to conquering the galaxy in the name of socialism. The crew of a newly built ship find themselves caught in the middle of the invasion and struggle to resist. With a skeleton crew, half loaded guns and barely enough fuel to escape the system, the crew must survive and fight back on their own terms.

Rules

1. Treat all other players with respect in the OOC, even if your characters hate each other. Keep it civil please.

2. Romance and such is encouraged, but keep it PG-13. Fade to black if you really, really want to.

3. That said, this RP will involve adult themes. Violence, swearing and some pretty dark stuff is to be expected. There won’t be any emo circle-jerking, but be prepared for some adult themes nevertheless.

4. GM’s word is law. I hate having to invoke this, so please don’t force me to.

5. Newly completed CSs are to be posted to the OOC for acceptance before being posted to the Char tab.

6. If you’re going to be away for a few days, just tell us in the OOC and we’ll work around it. If you decide to leave, again tell us.

7. I generally run my RPs at High-Casual (if that even exists), so I expect a certain standard of grammar and spelling. Nothing too over the top, just some common sense and a bit of spellchecking. As for post length, three paragraphs with five or six sentences each is ideal. I don’t mind a bit under that, but please don’t be that guy who speedposts one liners.

8. As for posting speed, slower is better in my experience. Three or four posts a week is perfect. Make sure that at least two other people get posts up between yours, to keep everyone on the same page.

9. Last but not least, enjoy yourselves. Contribute to the story, share your ideas, ask for help if you’re stuck. If you have an idea for a side story, PM me and we’ll work it out.

Are we able to call dibs on a spot in the crew befre posting our characters? If so, can I reserve the Chief Engineer spot?

Another question (was editing this into previous post as you responded): How realistic are we going to take this? In terms of the aliens anyway?

The current idea I have for my alien race is basically living energy contained within a kind of sci-fi plastic suit. If you're not sure, I could simple post the Alien Species CS here when I'm done it and you can make your decision then.

I'd prefer to go semi-realistic, so I'd have to say no to beings of pure energy. I'm happy to accept aliens of broadly humanoid appearance, but in this world anything that's too inhuman would likely have been exterminated/enslaved/homeworld carpet nuked by humanity and its mildly racist ways.

Name: J-12, Jack
Age: 4
Gender: Uses Male pronouns

Appearance: Jack's hologram form is exactly like his hard case unit save for the fact that it is see through, orange, and about six inches tall. In reality he is just data and has no form but you could say is "true" form is a titanium box deep within the ship.

Species: Artificial Intelligence

Rank/Specialism: First Officer
Skills: Jack is a military AI meaning he came jam packed with skills to assist him in his role as First Officer. Not only is he an adept pilot but he also fills the role of electrician, mechanic, and soldier when the need arises. However he really shines in cyber warfare. Flooding a ships system with viruses and malware, venting oxygen, data mining, and shutting down shields are his specialties.

Personality: Jack is an oddity compared to his other siblings in the military. While he has the basic necessities of a military AI like punctuality and complete dedication to his job but somewhere down the line he began to feel more than them. He has a dry, sardonic humor and doesn't appreciate when people waste his time. Jack has also gotten into giving people nicknames, usually unflattering ones until he decides he likes you. Finally, Jack will take any excuse he can to be inside the H.C.U. As far as life goes, humans in particular, people tend to take for granted things like touch, taste, and all the senses in general.

Bio: There isn't too much to tell in the life of Jack, at least not yet. In the grand scheme of things, Jack is just a newborn. To create a real AI takes time, around three years under normal conditions. In his creation Jack was drip fed mountains of data, molding him into something very similar to a military AI but somewhere fundamentally he was not and he has always known it. It made him isolated in a way as he couldn't be as serious as the other military AIs nor could he care as much as the more domestic AIs. The odd man out, so to speak.

More than anything this isolation framed his personality, giving him a slight mean streak against humans and AI both. This mean streak persisted strongly until he was placed onto the ship, the only place that felt like he belonged. While brief his time has brought the better out of him, causing the mean spirited AI to soften up a bit as he found his home.

Other: Jack has no ill feelings towards aliens and in fact views them on the same plane as long as they do their part.

Okay so I'll be posting a CS for a human and alien character, but I had an idea regarding aliens. Basically, in this galaxy humans are the dominant race so the reason aliens could be so rare is that each race comes from a different galaxy. Galaxies are really far apart so any alien that finds itself in the human-dominated galaxy would be considered just that: an alien.

Just a thought. Also, aliens would probably need a good excuse for being in the human-dominated galaxy, it wouldn't exactly just be a vacation.

Aliens are certainly rare in this world, but not quite that rare. Humans make up a good 70% of the population, but aliens are still widespread enough to be almost accepted. Imagine a black man in Japan, to use a modern example; he would be accpeted, but very obvious and would experience subtle discrimination in some places and well-meaning curiosity in others. Most alien planets have ether been wiped out by humanity or are out in the Unaligned Systems where the central human authorities have little power. Think of Tyra like a less diverse version of Tatooine; lots of aliens, but still a majority of humans.
As for intergalactic travel, I have plans for that; technology isn't at that level yet, bar perhaps using one hell of a generation ship.

Well, this one isn't primarily based on ships and combat; a lot of it will be the crew's adventures, Voyager-style.
Also, I'm afraid someone else has already reserved Chief Engineer; there's space for other engineers though, if you want.

CAG stands for Commander Air Group of the Carrier Air Group; basically the lead pilot.
