It's A Wonderful Life: An Imperial Guard/Navy (WH40K) RP [Seeking Recruits!]

I will make this as concise as I possibly can;

- This will be a 'high casual - advanced' RP, correct spelling and the like is encouraged (although I'll let less obvious mistakes slide), and at least a paragraph per post. An entire novel is welcome, but not necessary.

- A decent grasp of the 40K lore is welcome, but newcomers are entirely welcome as well.

- This RP, for reference(s) sake, could be compared to Band of Brothers, Sharpe/Hornblower, Dirty Dozen as well as many more.

- We will be playing as a composite regiment I.E. one composed of elements from decimated contingents, allowing for variety and, hopefully, more interesting role-playing.

- All elements of the Imperial warmachine can/will be represented (minus Astartes etc); Mechanicus, psykers, Naval contingents and the like.

- This will not be a purely military RP, there will be battles and combat, but it will ultimatley not be the entire story. Thank the Emperor.

- While I do have plans for the narrative, I'm all too happy to listen to suggestions from participants, questions and anything else.

((Gonna wait a bit before I decide which variants of Leman Russ I'm going to roll with, I want to see what suits the group better. Only thing I'm sure of are some plain old vanilla Leman Russ variants.))

Two things here;

1) I'd prefer, but not demand, that we be an infantry regiment/company/squad.

2) If you wish to remain as a driver or the like, please make it something useful to infantry; a chimera or something along those lines...I might also consider one of the less 'exotic' LR variants.

Thanks for showing your interest though, either way! I don't think people actually realise just how much can potentially be done with the Guard - all manner of scenarios and missions, unlimited creative ideas for your Guardsman/woman, the thrill of being an average Joe in the middle of a universe trying to kill you.

Ah we are supposed to play as one or at most a squad of characters. I mistakenly inferred we would be playing as our own platoon (given the life expectancy of a single guardsman a not entirely unreasonable chain of thought).

Is a Conqueror variant acceptable? Otherwise I will take a vanilla Russ.

What about a missionary, tasked with improving morale of the soldiers without shooting their friends, with the twist being that he shares certain personality flaws with the Hero od the Imperium, Ciaphas Cain.

Basically a selfish priest that is the most fierce when standing deep in the friendly territory and accidentally ended up being something like a father-figure for the men around him.

ANYWAY:

Sergeant Jacques 'Mad Jack' De Vries

HISTORY

As implied by his nickname, Jack is considered to be a bit messed up in the head due to always volunteering for scout duty. Cheerful and a great singer his tank is always in the front, leading the charge or reconnoitring the terrain ahead.

Initially recruited from the agriworld Nendardel, his experience with racing on tractors (based off the Leman Russ chassis) made him a great tank driver right off the bat. He truly rose to fame during a short but intense conflict with a group of Chaos raiders on the agriworld of Chion VII. During a battle for one of the provincial capitals his Russ had the turret blown off killing both the commander and the gunner and leaving Jack in charge of the tank. Rather than retreat from the unseen tank destroyer or panic he slammed down on the throttle forward and used a dip in the terrain to hide his now much smaller tank. From there, coordinating carefully with the remains of his unit, he managed to sneak into the enemy back lines where, armed solely with a hull mounted lascannon and sponsoon bolters he proceeded to sow utter chaos among the lines of the heretics. Either annoying targets enough so that they would expose vulnerable rear armour to other imperial tanks and blasting important looking objects with the hull mounted cannon. When asked to comment on his highly successful if reckless run, he reportedly shrugged and replied with 'it was great fun and I'd love to do it again?'.

Soon after, he was promoted to commander of the Leman Russ 'Cearbannog', the tank he has commanded ever since. He and his surviving comrades from Nendardel are best known for two things. The first is their relaxed easy going attitude off duty, being tolerant of quirks of people from other worlds rather than annoyed. Secondly the crew share a small portable garden of plants from their homeworld which can be smoked as a replacement for normal Lho sticks. For obvious reasons this makes them quite popular on extended campaigns.

Also on that whole 'it doesn't make sense' thing, do realise we're about to go shoot all manner of horrifying space monsters in the name of an undead collective of Humanity seated on a gold plated life support. Most of our gear is covered with enough blessings to pass for a 21st century church. Blessings that actually work because belief and faith influence a space hell infested with our strongest emotions twisted into horrific abominations of themselves (that semi-regularly break into reality to eat faces). Our main opponents include fungus in the shape of a gorrila crossed with a football hooligan on a permanent holy war, mass migration and holiday all at the same time, supermen powered by evil voices and worse from the aforementioned space hell, dominatrix elves that go into battle with nothing but the face of their latest dead torture-toy covering the naughty bits, a locust horde on space steroids, blue skinned vagina faced mind controlled stalinist aliens, ancient robot skeletons shooting green lighting, space elves shooting space shuriken like they're space Naruto and even more mind bending horrors.

A turret that's slightly off because someone thought it would look cooler that way kinda pales in comparison.
