In a discussion with Polybius, we figured out a neat idea: how about we divide the posts into two different categories - Narrative posts, which are directly related to the plot and are posted in IC tab; and Encyclopedic, which are posted in the CHAR tab and simply provide information on the world, such as geography, magical systems, the species inhabiting it, their culture, technology and et cetera?

Eh, I'm out, you guys. Good luck on the world creating, though!

Well, never mind that. Shayd talked me into staying. Eagerly awaiting the first post!

And this is precisely my issue with this direction, we can claim that because of different evolutionary timelines means that our bog standard human can do anything and the world can literally be crafted for them. Drink salt water? Ok! Survive in freezing cold temperatures? Still fine! Can go months without eating? Evolution baby! How about animals that are naturally plump and juicy and fat for us to eat? Why the hell not!

There is no sense of urgency in situations like this, things should be based on how it works by science and not what we want. If that was the case, I could claim that a much of space elves have established a colony here on this planet and decided to purge every living thing because it is the "greatest sandbox ever!"

Easy there, killer. No need to get so worked up.

Alright, made the first IC post formatted like the start of a page from a history textbook, hopefully I gave people enough wiggle room to expand on whatever.

General remind that if you're post is going to be close the time I described there would be no written language yet as that stuff takes years to develop once you have a very well established base. If you need some ideas you could have it be part of the textbook or a different textbook, an archeologist describing their findings or a bit out of a documentary.

(Also the picture doesn't accurate portray the landscape, I just put that in for some artistry )

EDIT: The name Sarasaric isn't permeant and the city name is left vague so people here can decide what to ultimately call them.

Okay, so, as far as magic goes, I'd say we have six options:

A) No magic whatsoever

B) Put the whole magic thing aside for now and perhaps include it later

C) Start out with magic, but phase it out later on. Perhaps there are a bunch of spells written down somewhere, but they are lost, for example. Or it is completely forbidden at some point.

D) Make magic a very important part of the world, eventually, there may be several magic societies/ schools (Personally, not a huge fan of this one.) People with magic abilities are considered gifted, but not necessarily revered.*

E) Make magic an exclusive and rare thing, most people can't use it, those who can (less than 10%) are often considered evil. Perhaps a cult or even a small community of magic using refugees will become significant.*

F) Magic is still rare, but magic users are seen as "divine," with most leaders and nobles being able to use magic. Magic users are treated with extra respect.*

*Could even be region specific (for example, magic is forbidden in east, but not in the west) or history specific (seen as evil at first, but later magic users are respected, or vice versa.)

Also, if we do include it, we have to decide how intricate we want it to be. Should very powerful magic users be able to make fire rain down on armies, or if the most any one would be able to do is simple stuff.

Plus, there are plenty of other details to iron out if we allow magic. Is it hereditary? Random? How do spells work? Can anyone who puts in the effort use it? Do they need special wands? Etc.

@SpookySquid I'd like A, once you have magic, it's just going to be redicu-powerful,

@bluetommy2 The premise of magic is that it can never be all-powerful. It always has to have consequences and limitations. Those have to be made clear, which is why we all keep coming back to the topic. I believe in magic. Here, now, and everywhere. I think it has to be included, but I also think it has to be thought out carefully.

@ClocktowerEchos But for the proofreading, I enjoyed your first post very much. Thinking about where to go with it now, but my husband just came home and he'll be expecting dinner.

Catch up with all of you soon!

@Shayd Hmm, yeah, true, I agree, but I don't think it should take the front seat, instead I think it should be the exception rather than the rule, there should be better options, not that it is pointless, but not that it's super great either. I don't want an army of mages against an army of warriors to be a curbstomp for the mages, the other way around maybe. :P

About the space elves thing, who's to say the space orcs wouldn't recognize kindred spirits and possible allies/cannon fodder in the humans and assist them in fighting off the invasion?

I was mostly joking around but why not unleash the omnicidal space elves as humanity's first contact with extraterrestrial life forms?

I think extraterrestrial life forms are too far along for now.

I was thinking of working on a ballad regarding the death of King Trusis. @ClocktowerEchos As you alluded to it, I see an opening to introduce conflict...

I like the intro, well done :) I also like the idea of posting as entries in books. It could help us put it together in a way that would be easy for others to pick up and read. Maybe even use it as inspiration for a game of their own. I like where this is going.

As for who's going next, I might not take my turn for a little while, got other stuff to work on, but I will keep myself updated here and call dibs when/if I have anything.

For now though, good night guys.
