Pokemon RP Idea (Dark-ish)

I kinda second the Hoenn as a starting point thing since its Legendary Pokemon are weather related.

Whoop! Gonna start working on my character sheet. A few questions though:

How far along in the Trainers' lives are we talking here? Are we gonna have a mix of somewhat experienced Trainers or newbies?
Are we going by game battle mechanics or anime style?

The trainers can be newbies or more experienced folks ^^! Anything goes so long as it's reasonable. Just don't be one of the elite four or anything like that, and if you're making someone who's super badass then it should be justified in the bio. As long as you guys give me balanced characters with strengths and weaknesses then it's all good :)!

As for battle mechanics, we won't be lvling up or limiting ourselves to four moves or anything like that. It'll be more like the anime and we'll just be using our common sense and stuff, like we won't need HMs to teach Pidgeot Fly or Scyther cut. I hope this helps ^^!

@Fox of Spades Hey just wanted to run this by you, because its a little out there and it be better to get permission right away then to finish it and be denied.

Would it be alright if one of my pokemon could speak english? The character I'm writing is a bit of an odd ball, and he spent most his life talking to pokemon instead of humans. So he's basically like a 'pokemon whisperer' and can understand some of the pokemon's language and he also tries to teach them how to speak. Was just curious.

As for general knowledge. Thanks to my friends, I'm pretty familiar with all generations of pokemon but I can keep my team limited to mostly older generations if it helps. Good to know, about the battle rules. Was going to ask if someone else didn't.

I am excellent at both villains and heroes, (no problem playing NPCs either) and have quite the knack for creating dramatic twists if you like that sort of thing

also.. i come from a mind where pokemon can DIE. so this RP is a perfect fit.

also.. i have this headcannon where mew is actually evil and working with team rocket, so reading this just made my headcannon explode

@Fox of Spades@tobiax Wedlockes are where your Pokemon need to have a "partner", I think? I've never attempted one personally since it kind of confuses me. Good ol' Nuzlocke or Sololocke is enough for me.

Anyway, maybe start a little after the events? Amidst the confusion and the panic, yanno?

Yes. It's a modified Nuzlocke created by Marriland. It's arguably harder than a standard Nuzlocke. Neat, good luck on that.
What are our parameters on Pokemon with non-standard appearances? Like different colors or adaptations for region for specific Pokemon, not necessarily Shiny Pokemon?

And I'm thinking Pokemon of the same species will look the same but there can be others that look different, kind of like how we sometimes get albino animals or cats with different colored eyes and etc.

Yes, it is. So you basically have three teams of two instead of one team of six.

If I may, I'd suggest a bit before, only so the foreboding and foreshadowing can creep in. And there can be that eerie silhouette of an Absol for a split second over precarious places.

Thanks! I have Charmander(F)/Spearow(M) and Rattata(M)/Caterpie(F) as pairs. Solo'd the second Rival battle though, just to get free Pokeballs and get a more interesting first pair. So far my Charmander is stone cold. At two hp in the first battle with Green, ended his Squirtle with a crit scratch. It looked bad for a while in the second fight with Bubble coming in, but she pulled through.
But not sure about what you said in reference to the appearances. Can they be different or not?
