Okay, perhaps I didn't make myself clear enough; as you might guess (or not) from the thread title, I am talking about the races that make up the Warhammer Fantasy 'Dogs of War' E.G. en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dogs_of_War_(W..

Taking out the Undead and Lizardmen, this means Elves, Men, Dwarfs, Ogres, Halflings and plausibly also Greenskins of some form - Hobgoblins are well known for fighting for coin.

What I'm saying is that the WHFB world is not like 40K - men don't automatically massacre those that they're paid to fight beside, although a Dwarf and an Orc might be pushing it a ee bit too far.

This is only an interest thread at the moment, so if you do have any ideas - as you do seem to - then I'm more than happy to hear them.

That being said, anyone else want to chip-in here at all?

Ahh! well that makes more sense then, I knew the term Dogs of war meant the mercenary groups but because I stopped playing so long ago it simply didn't come to mind when I saw the thread!

Mercenaries. I LOVE mercenaries.

I know WH40k much better than I do WHFantasy, but damn do I love mercenary roleplays. I'll be honest, I'm a little worried in that Warhammer in general tends to be very Grimdork (note the 'o' instead of an 'a'), but so long as we go in understanding that and are ready to take it over-the-top (as is humorous), I'm cool with that.

How often do you want people to post? I can post 1/week pretty reliably. More than that is dicey.

If I were to join... Honestly, halflings need some love. Halflings always need some love. I'd also consider playing a greenskin of some kind because greenskins.

The short of it: there are people who take the absurd levels of violence in Warhammer and Warhammer 40k seriously. I believe there are other things about the settings which are serious, but that the absurd violence is really about comedy and cool factor, and that there isn't too much that's serious about running around with chainsaw swords or skaven roll around in Da Vinci style deathwheels.

Basically, I'm hoping we're embracing the awesome silliness of the setting and not taking ourselves too seriously.

I'm thinking along the lines of a mercenary sorceress (assuming a low level of magic is tolerable) or a duelist/pistolier type. Both characters would be from Tilea to fit with the mercenary theme.

Right then, folks, I'm liking the ideas that I'm seeing and I'd say that they're pretty much all acceptable. There is one thing I would like to ask though, before we get going with an IC thread, and that is when we would like to set this?

I was thinking of just before the End Times, completely ignoring that the End Times ever happened, or going with the Endhammer setting that some fans of come up with - essentially a post-apocalyptic WHFB setting.

Thoughts on the matter, anyone?

Dragonslayer is epic! Although some of the original troll slayer stories are pretty great too, I love the whole down on the luck mercenary vibe.

I always liked storm of Chaos, but I feel like pitting us against hordes of daemons seems a bit too generic fantasy, so I'll go with everyone else and say just before the end times.
