Jedi Padawan Charuri Rol

Name: Charuri Rol
Age: 16
Species: Cathar
Force Abilities:

  • Core Abilities
  • Comprehend Speech
  • Hibernation trance
  • Malacia

Non-Force Abilities:

  • Form I - Shii-Cho
  • Form III - Soresu*
  • Sleight of Hand
  • Street Smarts
  • Knowledgeable on a vast spectrum of Galactic History, Culture and Politics due to her Master
  • Persuasive

Personality/Motivation:
In the short time Charuri has resided in the galaxy, she has seen some of the worst and best that it has to offer. Bearing witness to this dichotomy at a young age has given her an outlook on life different than most would have. At the crossroads presented to her she choose to embrace life instead of rejecting it for what it had done. She acknowledges that terrible things happen to good people for no good reason, that the good guys never seem to win and that life seems to have no inherent meaning. Though because of that she believes it was up to the people to find their own meaning and if that was the case why can't their meaning and actions be good for once before they all die? The teachings of her master helped influence and shape this idea into a path that could be followed with her showing great respect towards all forms of life and the values of taking and learning from these varied cultures. Despite this though with Cathar blood running through her veins she still has problems with her temper at times wanting to swing when she should speak and taunt when she should calm. These lapses in anger are troubling as they show the temptation of the darkside but through her master's unorthodox teachings she had learned ways to at least try and keep them in check.

The idea of the future is really what drives her forward. To her it was one of the most important ideas that anybody could have because it inspired hope and with it allowed one to distance himself from the darkside. She wants to take things in stride always looking at the road ahead and the ground at her feet as opposed to the mistakes behind her. She wants to appear strong to those that need her to be strong and willing to help those that need a hand. Really I guess she just wants to live up the teachings and ideals that she was brought up with and taught, to be able to look past the darkness to show that all those that died for her to live did not die in vain and their ways of life would live on.

Biography:
Charuri was born in 35 BBY on Nar Shaddaa, the smuggler's moon. Her mother Xasyhi was one of the prized dancers (read as slave) of Zulo Funack'r Elra, a Hutt Crime Lord and leader of the Funack'r Kajidic. Her father Hasu was one of Zulo's most trusted bodyguards. The two fell in love and began a relationship that could've easily gotten them killed for going behind Zulo's back. Everything was going fine and peachy until Xasyhi accidentally became pregnant when contraceptives failed. The pair tried to hide the pregnancy for as long as possible but eventually the physical changes on Xashyi were too obvious not to notice. Outraged by the betrayal, Zulo ended up having Hasu executed out back in a dirty alleyway and his body dumped in a trash heap. But for Xasyhi, Zulo needed to set an example for the rest of his property. Once Xasyhi came to term, Zulo had all but one of her litter killed leaving her only with the runt sickly and small which would probably die in a week. But the little girl did not die and her mother would name her Charuri after her own grandmother, a great warrior and matriarch to her clan.

Growing up in the heart of a Hutt Kajidic is what one might call a somewhat different upbringing than most. Since her mother had to tend to her duties as they were as soon as the girl could walk on her own, Charuri would spent most of her time wandering the Hutt's compound on her own. Besides the rooms beyond the "Big Door" which lead down to Zulo's offices were business was conducted, Charuri had more or less free reign of the rest of the compound. During this years she was mostly obviously to what actually happened at the compound and she would realize it until much later by the time she had already been spirited away. The child's positive and adorable demeanor got her a long way with most of Zulo's staff and they would "educate" her on many topics that most children don't learn about like how to break a man's arm in one motion or what drugs when mixed together are the most lethal and other useful tidbits of information, it takes a village as they say. Though her favorite of these friends had to be the son of Zulo's head chef, a corellian boy by the name of Gren two years older than her. The two would get into many misadventures with one another sneaking around the compound at times they weren't supposed to and such.

This came to an end when Charuri was six years old in 29 BBY. The Galactic Republic after much work and joint efforts between Jedi Peacekeeper and the Judicial Forces had been able to build up a case against Zulo and the Funack'r Kajidic to bring down his criminal empire primarily for his role in helping arm the Kaleesh aggressors during the Huk War. This culminated in a raid on Zulo's compound after he refused to turn himself in peacefully. The raid was spearheaded by a Klatooinian Jedi by the name of Raonk. Since the compound was made up of many tight corridors with little large spaces beside the audience chamber, the fighting was fierce and the Republic forces had to take it room by room. Eventually though they succeeded and Zulo himself was killed in the fighting as well as Charuri's mother who had been used as a human shield and was unfortunately caught in the crossfire. Amidst this carnage and destruction was a scared, crying and very unhappy Charuri and Raonk the Jedi who had been primarily responsible for all of it, took pity on the girl and took her back with him to the Jedi Temple.

At the temple she was tested and found to be force sensitive and a good candidate to be a Jedi. Despite some fears that her upbring may lead her to temptation more easily and the fact of her advanced age she was accepted as a youngling. This readjustment period was hard for Charuri as she immediately became an outsider as most of the younglings she was with had been together since birth practically. Because of this and the fears about her past she had much more to prove and maybe because of that pushed harder all because of it. Her combat skills were fairly good as she adapted some of the tricks that she had learned on Nar Shaddaa which give her an edge. But in terms of control over the Force there was much to be desired, though her favorite classes were those by Master Yoda on the nature of the force itself which she found to be intriguing and would help shape her own beliefs. She would eventually graduate from youngling to Padawan at the age of 12 in 23 BBY when after being deemed ready by the council and after gaining the interest of Jedi Investigator and part time diplomat Feemor.

Feemor was a well respected Jedi Diplomat under the Council of Reconciliation and notable for being the first Padawan under the famous Jedi Qui-Gon Jinn whose teachings had rubbed off on him some in his own teaching styles. They said that his wisdom and compassion was some of his greatests assets and that he could end entire conflicts with one speech. The two were paired together with the intent of Feemor's teachings and ideals to help smooth out Charuri's rougher past and the Cathar tendency to strike first and ask question later. While Feemor did teach her more with lightsaber techniques and force powers later on at first he taught her things like history, culture and philosophy of species around the world mostly focused on the planet they happened to be on at the time. While at first Charuri found this tiresome she soon learned that in many ways these teaching were two fold teaching her important lessons about those subjects but also about the Jedi Code and the proper way to live life and so she began to pay closer attention to them.

The start of the Clone Wars, one year later would bring in an entirely different perspective for Charuri. While most padawans, knights and masters saw mostly of combat and fighting against the Separatists forces Feemor's position as a diplomat made her see a different side of the war. They spent their time in tight games of political intrigue and doubt in games to seal trade contracts and support before the Separatists could. During this time Feemor's more unorthodox teachings came out with his tendency to "bend" a few rules to get the job done and do good things and his more shrewd ways. During this time Feemor taught her the importance of learning and living and doing what was right no matter the consequences. He also began to teach her some more oddities in the ways of the Force including comprehend speech and Malachi to show her that conflict could be resolved without ever using your lightsaber, a memorable occasion being when he used Malachi to make a separatist diplomate throw up all over a prospective trade partner that the Republic and Separatist were dealing with and utterly destroying his chances at sealing a deal with them securing Republic Support.

In more recent years, her progress from the start of her teaching under Feemor made her look like an almost entirely different person, more centered and sure of herself and at peace with the world like a true Jedi. Feemor himself even said that someday she would make a great Diplomat if she choose to be so. Though those dreams have now seem will never come to fruition as recalled from active duty for some well earned rest back at the Temple at Coruscant they got caught in the middle of Operation Knightfall. Feemor would die defending the temple and protecting Charuri's life. The temple is burning and her world is coming tumbling down.

Secrets:
Chance Encounter with Gren:
Little did Charuri know that Gren, the son of Zulo's head chef had ended up surviving the attack on the Compound and was orphaned as well. Unlike Charuri though he was never discovered by the Republic and left under a pile of rubble. He clawed his way out of the rubble and swore revenge on the Republic that had destroyed his life. Charuri would met him years later when Charuri fifteen and he was seventeen now working as a bounty hunter for the Separatists acting as a sort of Assassin. They were on a mission on Rodia to help secure a trade deal when Gren struck killing the Rodian official. Charuri and Feemor were then tasked with hunting this Assassin and bringing him in. They tracked Gren into the dense rainforests and Feemor and Charuri were separated when the edge of a cliff underneath Charuri give way and sent her tumbling into a strong river, throwing her far downstream.

She would find Gren when she was trying to regroup with Master Feemor and the two would engage in combat. The young padawan managed to just barely defeat her old friend, but she found herself unable to bring him in when the time came. She just left him defeated laying in the muddy dirt and looking up angrily as she ran to regroup with her master. She would never tell Feemor what happened and after another day of searching they decided to give up on the chase as he was deemed long gone and anyway they had a deal to finish. So Gren escaped, horrified to find out his old friend had become a Jedi working for the Republic he hated so much.

Relations:
Feemor: Charuri's master, an aging human male and one time Padawan of Qui-Gon Jinn. He followed in the traditions of his master before him placing great value on the life of all things and the importance that understanding cultures allowed for peace. He helped instil these views into the next generation to follow in his footsteps including Charui. With his keen mind and willingness to learn and intermingle with new culture and peoples he was given the duty of a Jedi Investigator attached to the Diplomatic Corps. He like his master before him had the tendency to "bend" some rules in the sake of doing good but even still he was much more rooted and where his master was ostracized, yet revered by those that knew him. Feemor managed to be well respected and keep to his own code knowing when to fold his hand where his master did not.

Naat Reath: The two are at least aware of one another and their reputations. Both having been at the temple on leave for some time chance encounters cannot be avoided. Though as of now they seem to be on two entirely different spectrums.

Gren: The boy from her childhood turned assassin for hire by the separatists. Hates Jedi and Hates the Republic.

Raonk: The Jedi Peacekeeper that lead the raid to bring down the Hutt and in the process ended up rescuing her. Believed to have been killed in the aftermath of Order 66.

Jedi Padawan Naat Reath

Name
Naat Reath

Age
17

Species
Human (Corellian)

Appearance
Standing at 1.5 meters, Naat is at a particularly mundane if a bit shorter height to her fellows. As a daughter of Corellia she has noticeably defiant traits behind her appearance and it is likely if she was not in the Jedi Order she would dress as such. Her hair was rather short in her youth but over time has had her hair grow out; sometimes covering her cerulean eyes.

Abilities & Skills
Force Abilities
  • Core Abilities

  • Battle Meditation*

Non-Force Abilities
  • Lightsaber Combat - Even as a young initiate Naat was a talented duelist, often besting her more soft-spoken brother during sparring duels before he was assigned as a padawan to Jedi Master Echuu Shen-Jon. Due to her focus on the lightsaber’s role in combat, Naat found herself a proficient and often overzealous talent over even the simplest force-based abilities. Her abilities were well-known as they became honed in battles such as Krant and Sarapin. Naat is known to utilize forms such as Makashi, Soresu, and Ataru; switching up depending on the situation. Naat has often been intrigued by the options from mixing and matching lightsaber forms and is curious about the “forbidden” form of Vaapad after an experience witnessing Mace Windu at the Battle of Coruscant in 19 BBY.

  • Investigation - Deductive and with a good perception, Naat is an able Jedi Investigator though she is not particularly brilliant in this aspect despite her ability to look at the “big picture”. Small things can sneak by her and cultural inflections or mannerisms are not something she has studied in earnest. She is used to people being direct with her and as such doesn’t notice when individuals have ulterior motives for or against her benefit.

  • Tactical Analysis - After her experience as a Jedi Commander throughout the Clone Wars and serving through battles on Krant, Sarapin, Coruscant, Alderaan, Dantooine, and various galactic skirmishes Naat has found herself to be a capable tactician worthy of mention. She thinks skillfully “outside the box” and can be unpredictable in her unorthodox strategies. Her intelligence allows her to think of the battlefield as a whole and was seen as a padawan of note that would meet Knighthood quickly due to her achievements.

  • Starcraft Piloting - Naat is a competent starcraft pilot, knowing how to fly small starfighters and speeders with some skill. She’s flown Jedi Starfighters, Gaba-18 speeders, and served as an additional co-pilot for more than a few transport ships. She is most at home in a small starfighter, though she is hardly the best of Jedi pilots.

  • Miscellaneous Skills - Naat briefly studied philosophy, religion, and culture through determined visits to the Jedi Archives in search of answers following her “success” on Krant.

Personality & Motivation
Despite not remembering much of her homeworld or her family, Naat (as well as her brother, Stam) exhibited decidedly Corellian traits such as confidence, defiance, and a degree of snark. However in the aftermath of the Battle on Krant Naat has found herself finding a center due to guidance from her time with Jedi master Laalth, something that has helped her as she found herself becoming a Knight of the Order as the Clone Wars seem to be coming to a close. As a Jedi she still struggles with the code completely though after her experience understands why they must distance themselves from their emotions; even if she herself is not completely removed from them. Naat despite her struggles in the past with the dark side is inherently good which was evident when she talked her first Master down during a duel with a Dark Acolyte, urging him to stay upon the side of virtue.

Biography
Naat & Stam Reath were born on Corellia in 36 BBY, though by the time they were barely out of infancy were discovered as force sensitives and inducted as initiates of the Jedi Order to where they began earnest study of the force on the planet of Coruscant. It was here that they became enthralled with the religious culture and traditions of the Jedi. Unlike her brother, Naat found herself fascinated by the concept of lightsaber combat when she found force abilities difficult to grasp; having that connection with dueling helped her remove doubt that she was not just another throwaway force sensitive and had a future with the Jedi Order. Lightsaber dueling became her whole world following the discovery of the fascination, earnestly trying to pick apart every Knight and Master who demonstrated before her. This passion would be initially overlooked due to her brother’s skillful grasping of Jedi philosophies but also raw force ability. Her brother was picked up as a Padawan and for some reason or another she remained a masterless Padawan for many years following their initiatehood.

As Naat trained herself in earnest awaiting to attract a master, a darkness dawned on the galaxy as her brother found himself involved in what would become known as the Battle of Geonosis— a battle that would begin the Clone Wars and a battle that would take her brother’s life at the end of a Dark Acolyte’s lightsaber. When Jedi Master Echuu Shen-Jon returned from the battle he was in distress; a distress that Naat could feel in her bones since it happened. Naat held a bond with her brother since birth and when he was struck down it was felt with great spiritual force— the most powerful instance of spiritual pain she had ever felt in her life, a pain that would cause her great grief and great anger. The name of Sev'rance Tann would cycle in her mind every single day afterward, her discontent festering as the dark side began to rear it’s head to try and twist her emotions against her ideals. The appearance of Sev'rance Tann was a precedent that the council couldn’t ignore and soon assigned Echuu Shen-Jon a new padawan; that padawan being none other than Naat Reath. Noticing the growing darkness in both Echuu and Naat, the council believed pairing them would bring the light back to their spirit and create a bond that would desire to bring Sev'rance Tann to justice. So began Naat’s entry into the Clone Wars.

The field of battle as a Jedi Commander was different than her silent study of lightsaber duels, historical battles, and lightsaber forms; a fact that became apparent to Naat upon entry into the Clone Wars. Despite this harrowing feat she found herself eager to bring Sev’rance Tann down and avenge her brother no matter what. Fighting the Separatists was just one small obstacle in her path in her way and it became evident very quickly that Naat was very good at combat despite being completely green to the battlefield outside of simulations and studies. Her master remarked on her talent for battle as being surprising, even likening her to his former master in her hardened battle ferocity. This became something the droid army of the Separatists learned on the planet of Sarapin. The objective however was not to obtain Tann but rather Zian Finnis, a Separatist officer who had been placed as overseer of Sarapin following the success of Tann’s siege. Naat and her master did not let this get in their way and with some careful battle strategies captured Finnis easily. The council hoped Finnis would become a useful informant, a fact that became apparent when he told Echuu Shen-Jon where to find Tann as far as he knew: Tatooine.

Once on Tatooine, the two Jedi began to investigate Finnis’ information— something that would become challenging on such a backwater planet nestled as a hub for the Hutt Cartel. However, when information led to learning that Boorka the Hutt had aligned himself with the Separatists, Echuu Shen-Jon began negotiations with Jabba the Hutt, Boorka’s rival. After a battle that resulted in the death of Boorka (and creating a power vacuum Jabba quickly filled) the first hint of Sev’rance Tann became apparent as information led to a planet named Krant. The council was pleased by the continued success of Shen-Jon and despite their worries told the jedi to pursue Tann asking the two Jedi to stop the problem at the source before the Separatists could gain more ground under Tann’s command. As Echuu entered the Krant system things would turn interesting as strange signals were picked up on the moon of Aereen— it became apparent that the Trade Federation had begun an illegal mining operation ordered by Tann to supplement their efforts on Krant, a dangerous precedent. The Jedi Council forbade directly invading Krant until a base of operations was established on the moon which is exactly what Echuu & Naat did.

After Jedi Master Mace Windu approved of the invasion of Krant, things only took a turn for the worst as during the siege Naat herself was captured by Tann as the Dark Acolyte goaded Echuu Shen-Jon in a duel to decide the fate of Krant and his padawan by proxy. Echuu Shen-Jon would defeat Tann, but according to Naat had sustained fatal injuries during the battle that caused his own death moments later. Naat would return to Coruscant and reported to the council about the events that took place on Krant. Now masterless Naat wondered what the council would do next as they thought on her and her late master’s accomplishments during the campaign. Following her report regarding the defeat of Sev’rance Tann, Naat Reath was looked at cautiously and was met with by her master’s former mentor and teacher, Mace Windu.

After speaking with Master Mace Windu, Naat masked her feelings as she came to reflect upon the campaign with Master Echuu Shen-Jon, unsure of where to go next. Her brother had been brought to justice, but she had also lost her jedi master in the same instant. Was the consequence worth the achievement? She took to meditation to try to find answers for herself as the council left her unassigned for some time. The thought of knighting Naat Reath came to the council’s discussions, though she had only served in four battles thus far and despite the emotion that had left her had much to learn. Despite being masterless it became clear that Naat’s innate talent for combat, battle, and tactics was needed— thus it was decided that she would be thrown back into battle as she served as an informal padawan to jedi knight’s who needed aid in the battles that consumed the galaxy. Assigned to Mace Windu as a commander at the Battle of Malastare Naat witnessed one of the most fierce battles of the entire Clone Wars firsthand, making her previous experiences on Krant, Sarapin, and Tatooine seem like child’s play. After accidentally awakening the Zilo Beast Mace Windu’s forces started an attempt to combat and capture the creature but it was soon discovered that it was impervious to lightsabers and blaster fire. Naat is ordered by Mace Windu to rescue non-military and injured units out of the range of the creature.

As Naat began to be more successful she found her force powers growing despite her minimal usage of them beforehand. She soon learned that her innate battle affinity was a consequence of her connection to the force and not just raw physical skill— the legendary force ability known as “Battle Meditation”. Whilst Naat was far from being as prodigal as Bastila Shan during the Jedi Civil War, the ability was still quite rare. She would begin to attempt to hone this ability for the Order’s and the Republic’s benefit; the path was difficult but she was certain it could turn future battles in the light’s favor. Following Naat’s involvement during the Battle of Coruscant discussions about the female jedi by the council have been brought up again, but it seems more pressing matters have been brought to their attention as of late...

Secrets
Battle of Krant - Working alongside colonial Wookiee’s who had escaped Separatist imprisonment, Naat Reath would become a pivotal piece of what would become known as the Battle of Krant. However, the temptations of the dark side were quite strong and within her youthful ignorance found herself drawn towards the concept of vengeance as she hoped to kill Sev'rance Tann for her execution of her brother during the Battle of Geonosis. Many struggles with the dark side of the force would become apparent and she witnessed her own master’s struggle with staying in the light. A multitude of secrets were spawned on Krant which she withheld from the Jedi Council upon her return to Coruscant following the battle.

Relations
Echuu Shen-Jon - The Jedi Master who taught Naat & Stam Reath in the ways of the force. He is believed to have perished during the conclusion of the Battle of Krant.

Stam Reath - Her deceased brother who was the first apprentice of Master Echuu Shen-Jon. His death served as a catalyst for Naat’s struggle with the dark side of the force as well as her conflictions regarding justice and vengeance.

Mace Windu - Her current mentor and "informal" master. Mace has continued observation on Naat after the death of his former padawan, Echuu Shen-Jon. He hopes to guide her forward, though he seems preoccupied with the war and other events that have gathered his attention.

Charuri Rol - Another Jedi Padawan stationed currently at the temple on Coruscant. Reputation and Familiarity are likely though from what Naat figures is that her and Charuri are polar opposites when it comes to manners and ideals.

*her talent for battle meditation is limited and an extremely underdeveloped affinity she has, she cannot inspire entire fleets or even large armies but rather one or two other Jedi at a time.
