@lugubrious First IC will be up in a few hours. If they're not ready, they can always jump in. @insatiableHey, another suicide character!!!!!! Yes, I really like how in-depth you went on it. I definitely approve! I just have some reservations about your soul relic's functions though. It's not bad, but I'm just curious if he's going to be very reliant on using the special function. If so, it may not bode well, because the soul doesn't regenerate...
@Swifttalon i want it in Char please. @Vagabond Approved @Lugubrious and everyone else: I'll post the first IC within the next 24 hours, so please be on the lookout!
@kirah It works! I will have to talk with you more in detail about when she uses her major precog, though. @deadpixel101 Love this character, too! I'll take him.
@The Roman07 The physical bodies, the vessels, are important to the plot, but if you can incorporate it, I'd like the idea. It's not Jack's underpowered ability that I disapprove of, but his lack of distinction between a ghoul and reborn ghoul. For me, the only thing that would be considered OP in this world is tapping into The Origin in any way. A reborn's vulnerability is their soul, and so Jack could be a super ghoul and try to rip away at a reborn's body but it will simply regenerate back to its original state. Uh, well I really don't want to spoil everything from the beginning, but the IC post should shed more light on what exactly these reborn beings are. As for their purpose... Well, in due time!
@The Roman07 Okay, so I was very skeptical about letting people choose their new species precisely because the reincarnation ritual used to bring all these characters back is meant to separate them from the dead. So far, Jack just seems like a normal ghoul to me. I feel like he lacks a quality about him that this particular sort of reincarnation called for. The whole process of Thanatos' reincarnation was built on fundamentally enhancing the vessel for your character, and if your vessel's weakness is his gluttony for flesh, then for Thanatos, that particular specimen would have been a failure. He wanted to create something that no one else has made before. In this universe, a soul cannot be reincarnated artificially, and creating immortal vessels to house a soul is paramount to creating a philosopher's stone. I can only approve if you can make this reborn ghoul much more unique than any other ghouls. Also, the soul relic's special function of seeing into the veil is rather ambiguous. Are you saying that your character can see the boundary itself, or can see beyond the boundary? If it's the latter, then there has to be limitations because seeing beyond the boundary means taking a peak at The Origin, which is a feat that requires a great degree of understanding of The Origin as well as fundamental knowledge of how magic works. @McHaggis I really like the character's former life and history. Please remember, though, that his new immortal vessel already possesses supernatural strength, agility, and senses, so consider just how useful his soul relic's basic function is going to be. BUT REALLY THOUGH, I love the character and it's already approved. Just notify me of changes. @Lugubrious I am already working on the first IC post and I can tell you now that the first post starts with the completion of the reincarnation ritual Thanatos uses to bring these characters' souls into their immortal vessel on February 18. Each character will start on February 25th, waking up with all their memories intact from their previous life, including their own death. They have no conscious knowledge of their newfound abilities, and for a lot of these characters, it will simply come with instinct. So for people whose former lives are animals, it will be an entirely interesting experience waking up as a supernatural reborn. FOR EVERYONE ELSE. Please remember that your character already possesses enhanced physical strength, agility, and senses. Their strength and agility are twice that of a healthy adult and their senses are heightened just slightly above their species' maximum potential. They also gain the ability to sense supernatural phenomena if they already haven't. In this lore, an ordinary human can only feel very strong supernatural phenomena, but a reborn can sense if and when a supernatural phenomena is within their immediate surroundings (unless your character has a unique skillset or soul relic ability that allows for even greater awareness).
@ApokalipseIt works! I assume the time stop is comparable to instantaneous movement? Also, Does Piper know how to use human technology or is it something she learns along the way?
Sofia Lufkin
Female | 23 | Mage Reborn
5'8" Slender build and dark grey eyes.
Personality:Sofia is a carefree individual and has very little concern to other beings. She amuses herself by toying with others, especially the tortured ones, as she finds their tragedies to be a captivating subject to pass the time. When inspired by an event, she devotes her entire attention to capturing that moment with paint and is utterly consumed by the process. Sofia can seem cold and emotionless, but one look at her artwork shows that she can in fact be very passionate. She observes beyond what people say and looks deep into their core, as if searching for the truth behind their eyes. Sofia nonetheless shows proper etiquette and can entertain anyone in conversation. She is rather straightforward and is not afraid to speak her mind. Verbal confrontation is her forte, and she does love a good argument. She is very jaded with bloodshed, neither finding joy or disgust in it. To her, blood was once a means of survival, but as a reborn, it does not faze her. Sofia actively avoids physical confrontation and violence, not out of fear, but rather out of sheer discomfort over having to physically exert herself. Despite her former life as a vampire, Sofia has never directly killed a single being in all of her existence. Unique Skillset(s): Brilliant artist with eidetic memory retained from her being a vampire. She is also an adept empath, which was further amplified to the point that she can see the aura of a person's emotional state. Sofia has the capacity to cast basic magic rituals on her own, and uses artifacts and items to cast even greater magic. Because of her status as a reborn, her scope of inherent magic is far greater than an average mage. Sofia also possesses a preternatural charm about her that causes people to let their guard down. Soul Relic and Ability:
Basic Function: A set of paintbrushes that can turn paintings of objects into reality. This power is limited to objects that are commonplace. Rare artifacts drawn can only be turned real by using her soul as a catalyst. The objects disappear after a single use. Special Funciton: Can turn rare objects or even conceptual objects into reality. The rarer the object or more difficult the concept, the more of her soul is used up. Former Name: Anna Volkoff Former Gender: Female Former Age: 146 (stopped aging at 17) Former Species:Vampire
History:Anna was born in 1874 to a family of poor peasants in Russia. She was sold at the age of seven and auctioned off to a wealthy vampire Anton Volkoff who intended to devour her. Even as a human, she possessed a charm about her that kept her from being bled dry. Captivated by her beauty, the vampire kept her and groomed her to be an elegant young woman. She was taught how to read and write, dance, sing, play the piano, and learned proper etiquette. At age twelve, she was so refined that no one would have dared guess that she was actually born from poverty. At the age of seventeen, Anna contracted a terminal illness, forcing Anton to sire her, thereby solidifying his status as her father. As a vampire, Anna slowly forgot about her own childhood and fully embraced her status as a Volkoff. Anna was Anton's favorite among his sired children and offered her only the finest the world had to offer. She never had to hunt for herself, nor did she ever have to take a human's life, as she found the act of sucking the blood directly from a human unrefined. She was even given a precious necklace that warded off the deadly effects of sunlight so she could bask in the day, which at the time was extremely rare for vampires. In 1902, the Volkoffs moved to Aldred to avoid the political turmoil in Russia to enter a new stage of politics. Anton had great ambition in establishing a ruling class of vampires in Aldred, successfully overthrowing the previous coven in a matter of months. He wanted to expand his power whilst avoiding a war with the other supernatural communities, and spent a great deal of time developing healthy diplomatic relations with them. All the while, Anna, wholly uninterested in politics, spent her time with non vampires. She was often found with a coven of witches, learning the craft and gathering magical artifacts so she could use magic. She had numerous lovers throughout the century and had left every single one of the moment she grew bored. She did not limit herself to other vampires, and instead, allowed all manner of men to court her. Little did she know that her lack of concern for her admirers would eventually lead to her downfall. At the turn of the 21st century, she caught the attention of a young sorcerer who fell madly in love with her. The sorcerer spent two years trying to court her, but Anna was not particularly impressed and had continued to lead him on for her own entertainment. When she finally turned him down, the sorcerer's love turned into a vile hatred that consumed him. He lashed out in anger by destroying her necklace midday, causing Anna to slowly burn to her death. Not one day later, the sorcerer was banished from the Mage Association and was executed by Anton Volkoff.
@swifttalonYes please! @Rockette - no, it's purely choice. I'm making another character with a real picture. @Lugubrious - That's a very interesting character choice! I like. Approved!
Great! Also, I'll be adding more to the glossary so people aren't so lost in my world. I originally intended to keep it rather simple - guy reincarnates a bunch of dead people to do his bidding - but I didn't want a 2-dimensional world where all these people do is fight or kill. So the missions are going to encompass everything from assassinations to theft, saving people and capturing souls. You can only do so much.
Haha I'm glad you took to using a cat as your past life. Okay, I need to expand a little more on soul relics. It's essentially made from your soul and can have two functions, basic and special. Its basic function doesn't cost you anything, but its special function drains away at your soul. You lose your sense of being when you lose a part of your soul until you're nothing but a puppet for Thanatos. That being said, could you change the way your soul relic works and then move it over to the characters tab?
