Hayley watched the beam and as they left the island she put up a telekinetic shield behind them when the burst of the blast came to them. It was visible as it passed them but she blocked it from affecting them and soon they were out of the blast radius. Hayley rested her head on Nate's shoulder and just rested there waiting to be back on land or any solid surface.

(Nate's holding her with one arm and Jason is over his other shoulder. I planned this shit out XD)

Nate laughed a little. This was a serious situation. Sure they were out of the blast radius, And pretty much protected, but they weren't near land yet. "So..." He said with a slight hint of nervousness in his voice. "I'm kind of out of energy. Not saying you should panic or anything, but... I could go down at any minute."

"Great..." Hayley mumbled rolling her eyes. "where is the closest land mass and if only green lantern boy would wake up, that would help cause I am almost to so I won't be able to help..." Hayley said not very loudly because she was tired and with her head on his shoulder it would be loud enough to hear.

"Don't worry." Nate said calmly. "I have a plan." Without another word he slowed a bit and threw Jason into the water, but picking up speed again. Only now he was circling the lantern who'd just received a sucky wake up call. "What the?!" Jason looked around. "Help!" Nate shouted. "Jason was confused but formed a construct and lifted himself up. It was a makeshift floor which allowed Nate to slowly down and let the now unconscious Deathstroke and Red Devil go and lay in a pile on. "See? Good plan right?" Nathaniel asked Hayley as he dropped to his knees still holding her.

"Mhm..."Hayley said just resting her head in the crook of his neck, slowly slipping unconscious her stomach wound had been bleeding again. Her unconsciousness would bring nightmares on her past villain experiences and all the people she murdered. Deathstroke's words playing over and over again.

Nate was able to stay awake. And as they flew to safety they met up with the league. Deathstroke and Red Devil were taken into custody and Nathaniel gave the white power ring back. There was no guarantee the Black lanterns were gone for good, but the world could hope. After that Nathaniel made sure Hayley got medical attention having noticed the blood. And when she was cleaned and patched up and resting in bed he just sat there by her. He was tired too though. Jason had to be checked. Apparently Deathstroke had really done a number on him. Nate would check on him later. But for now he just needed to rest. He laid his head on the edge of Hayley's bed sitting in his chair and closed his eyes drifting off to sleep. He was holding her hand.

Hayley slept for almost a whole day and when she did come to she looked over to see Nate sleeping while holding her hand. Hayley sighed as memories of her nightmares flowed through her mind. She didn't know what to do but she would talk to the Justice League on the best option. Hayley slipped her hand out of Nate's and slipped out of the bed being careful of her sore stomach. She noticed that she had been changed into a pair of black sweats and a sportsbra to allow her bandages to not be bothered by anything tight. She noticed a loose white t-shirt laid out for her so she slipped it on and walked over to the mirror and sink. Hayley splashed her face with water and cleaned it then she looked at herself. Red roots were showing in her blonde hair making the top look to have pink on it. She sighed and went and sat in the bed her knees wrapped to her chest as she stared at the wall, her arms wrapped around her legs with her chin resting on her knees. "who am I?" Hayley said softly to herself.

Nate groaned a bit as he awoke. He hadn't heard much or noticed anything, but when his vision cleared up he smiled. "Glad to see that you're up." He said as he sat up and stretched. He shifted from the chair to the bed and stared straight into her eyes. "What's bothering you?" He asked with a worried look on his face.

"Just thinking about.... stuff" Hayley said not exactly knowing how to answer. Hayley then looked into his eyes. "Are you ok?" She asked trying to get the focus off of her.

"I'm fine. I mean. I'm alive. And so are you. You're blonde now, but hey. You're still you." Nate said trying to lighten the mood a bit. but he seriously wanted to know what was bothering her. Still he wouldn't push it if she didn't wanna talk about it. "So you ready to partner up again?" He asked with a smile.

"Uh... Umm. I...." Hayley could form an answer in her moth. She stood up quickly in order to get out. She needed to talk to someone about it but she didn't think she could with Nate.

Nate sat still and turned his head. He wasn't getting up to stop her. "Guess after everything it's still too much to ask you to trust me." He said calmly looking down. He sighed and ran his fingers through his hair. "I'll be here waiting for you."

"It's not that I don't trust you Nate. I obviously do... I care a lot about you.... I don't trust myself... How can I?" Hayley said her head hanging down as her hair fell in front of her face with tears in her eyes but she refused to let them fall. Her fist were clenched as she spoke.

Nate smile and got up from the bed. He walked over to her and pulled her into a hug. "Even if you don't trust yourself. I trust you. And you've shown that you have everything you need to be a hero. I mean you even saved Deathstroke." He held her tight. "I don't care what you or anyone else says or thinks. You're a hero right to your core."

Hayley wanted to hug him back but she pushed him away and just shook her head. "It just cant be like that Nate... I've killed people. I never told you that, not until now. You've heard of the rumors of Hansel and Gretel the two assassins that the Justice League took quite a few years to hunt down right? Well you're looking at Gretel right now. I killed people for no reason, me and my brother just killed people because they didn't give us what we needed. Not only that but as Mystique I injured numerous people with the stupid powers I only took because I thought it was going to bring you back after I KILLED you. I was the reason you died. If I had trusted you, then everything would have been fine. You wouldn't have died..." Hayley said, finally telling him everything she has hid. "Just get it through that thick skull of yours Nate. I am not, never have, and will never truly been a hero!" Hayley yelled the last part angrily and stormed out of the infirmary and through the watchtower until she was standing on the edge of it, staring out into space as one thing ran through her mind on a loop. 'Even if you all get away now nothing will change. You'll be the reason he died. You'll be a criminal. A murderer. The same thing you always were.'

Nate stood a little dumbfounded for a bit. He didn't know what to say.He took a few minutes to think though before barging out of the room and rushing over to Hayley. "Hey!" He shouted at her. "You listen and you listen good because right now you are not being yourself." He still wasn't sure on what exactly to say. However, he was doing his best. "Just because you've made bad decisions doesn't mean you'll never be a hero. You aren't the same person you used to be! Why can't YOU get that through YOUR thick skull!" He punched the glass behind her. "And if you wanna make up for not trusting me before why don't you just trust me now? Trust me when I call you a hero. Trust me when I tell you that you are so much better than you think. Just... Just for a second get out of your own way and move forward with your life and stop thinking about the past."

Hayley stared at him, shocked at his words. She just stared at him not really knowing what to say at all. "S-sorry... your right....." was all Hayley could say, why was she suddenly so emotional... Her outer-core of hard, cold, steel shattered because of one person coming into her life and refusing to let her build her lonely protective shell back up. "thank you..." Hayley mumbled quietly still just looking straight into his eyes, she had yet to break eye contact and she didn't want to.

Nathaniel sighed in relief and placed his hands on her shoulders. "So I have to ask again." He said with a slight smirk. "You ready to partner up again?" He asked keeping his eyes locked on hers. He had no doubts in her whatsoever. Nothing but confidence in his partner.

"Who else would save your ass kid dorkula?" Hayley said smirking as she returned to her normal teasing self. Hayley slipped out of his grip and walked away looking over her shoulder as she winked at him, just to tease him. He seemed to know how to snap her back to reality.

"Oh before ya go. Any idea when your hair will go red again?" Nathaniel asked a bit sheepishly. "Because you loved her beautiful red hair right?" Jason's voice came from behind the two. "I knew you two love birds were meant for each other." The lantern laughed a little. "Thanks for visiting by the way. I'm fine." He added a bit sarcastically. "Gah... Shut up dude. I told you me and Hayley aren't like that." Nathaniel said quickly totally ignoring the kiss they shared and all the heart felt moments.
