Well, you would have had a better chance of beating Michael if Darian's magic didn't take so long to go into effect. Disease magic works better on groups of enemies, since it has the chance of spreading throughout the entire group over time. However, in the middle of combat, immediate effects work better, such as Darian's poison magic.
