Shay didn't often go into the library. She usually stayed away from there. It was too quiet for her. She had always been scared something was going to happen if she went. Something...completely awful that would change everything that hadn't already changed. She noticed him looking at her and her cheeks went pink in the darkness. It was all moving so quickly....her mind...couldn't comprehend. She had never been kissed, never been liked, never showed any interest in a guy before, that was until now. She leaned forward slightly as well, she was hesitant, nervous. Her hands were a bit shaky. But feeling his lips brush against hers, her cheeks turned very pink. Her first kiss was with her professor. Not that he was too much older, but she was still nervous.

Her lips gently pressed against his, her eyes were gently shut as she slightly, hesitantly kissed him, for a few seconds until she slightly pulled her lips back. "Indy...." She mumbled softly to him, her cheeks pink. She tried to keep the tears at bay. Her first boyfriend ended up a bad apple, as she called it. He truly was a bad apple. It scared her so much. It scared her to even like someone, but she really did like him. He was so sweet towards her. But she couldn't tell him if she had a crush on him. It scared her if she would tell him that she had a crush on him. But she continued to blush. She didn't know what to do now, she didn't know what to say, to kiss him again. She was terribly scared what to do. "Maybe...we should talk about something else..." She whispered softly.

"I...I can't talk about what my father has been doing. I'm too afraid to. I'm afraid of the rope...of what he'd do if I told." Shay whispered as her hands were still shaking, but since she was speaking about her father she was even more frightened.

Shay pulled back and Indy didn't want to ruin the moment. He frowned with disappointment, but he wasn't going to let her hesitation bother him. "We can talk about whatever you want..." Indy said to calm her down. He grinned. "...In fifteen minutes or so." Indy began to remove his leather jacket letting it fall to the floor as well as his satchel. He knocked his fedora off.

He ran his hands lightly along her sides, his thumbs grazing lightly over the swell of her small breasts. "Your heart's pounding," he whispered.

Indy's tongue darted into her mouth. He seemed to suck the breath from her lungs. His fingers threaded through her hair, and ran down her back. He pulled her to him, feeling her thighs pressed against his. They moved against each other, suddenly he heard activity in the hallway. He paused and looked to see a shadow move through the tinted door window.

It must have been campus security. He let out a breath of relief.

"Look Shadow, I want to help you... if you let me in I can help fix whatever is going on... or you come stay with me if you feel scared?"

Shay's cheeks were pink as her heart was beating much faster and she kissed him gently, blushing as she felt his tongue. She looked up at him as she was held against him and she blushed as she looked down. "No one has ever kissed me before, Indy...I had one boyfriend. I got smacked around. After that...I never looked at a guy till you...." She whispered as her heart returned to its normal rate and se smiled up at him, she didn't think he could see it. But she smiled. She took his hand and let go straight away. "Do you like me though?" She mumbled softly and blushed. She liked kissing him, the passion she never had received. "I like you...my fad would be mad if I'm not in my dorm. I can probably make up something...I'll...I'll come stay with you." She said softly, taking his hand again.

"I don't think that was security...it might be them." She said softly and put a finger to her lips. "I'm going to check. My dad knows I go out at night." She unlocked the door and gently poked her head out and looked around. She didn't see anyone and she shut the door back and she looked at Indy. "I didn't think someone as interesting as you would even like me..I never thought you would like me." Shay said as she shut the door and she went over and smiled as she kissed his cheek gently. "My heart pounds because...I never thought it would happen....no one would ever like me....I'm a teachers pet..." She said as she sighed and stepped back. "Come on. Let's go....thanks for letting me stay with you, Indy...." She was blushing. "I just never thought you'd like me....of all people..."

For a moment Indy began to think about all the love interests of his past. He had many lovers, he had his heart broken, and also had broken many hearts. He thought of Marion, then he thought of Deirdre Campbell and her red hair. She was studying at the university back in London. When he left her she had been his girlfriend, but he had not communicated with her since... Now all he was thinking about what was Shay standing in front of him, and she was asking if he liked her.

"Of course I like you, what's not to like... you are smart and beautiful, some family issues but that's normal..." He said beginning to change the subject as he put on his satchel and jacket and picked up his fedora. "Now let's get out of here, I can sneak you through the back door of my place..." He put on his fedora as he lead Shay back into the hall. He looked around and made sure no one was there and locked the museum door.

The two made it over silently to Titicus Dorm where they used the back entrance through Indy's patio and into the suite. "You're dad will fire me if he ever finds out about this," Indy said as he hung his jacket up and with his fedora, "but I'll get you back to your room before morning." He put set his things aside before he surprised Shay by picking her up and tackling her to his bed.

He gently began kissing her neck as he removed her sweater. "I'm glad you came," he whispered in her ear.

Shay slightly looked down as she begin to think about it, everything. "You're just going to leave....like my mother left....she died because she left...." She said as a tear rolled down her cheek. That was why she never trusted anyone. Because everyone always left. They abandoned her, her father had been the only one who could ever stay with her. He was the only one who ever stayed with her. Her hands were shaking again. Her head was laid back on the bed and she was looking up. Only one tear had rolled down her face and she looked at Indy. "You don't have to spare my feelings if you don't feel the same way. It's not like I'm not used to hearing it. "I'm sorry, Shay...but I don't like you that way....I'm sorry you aren't my type..." So many excuses...." Shay mumbled as she moved away from him and she pulled him down beside her and she laid her head on his chest.

It was true. She had listene to countless rejections, even from people she wanted to be friends with. And now, this was the biggest heart break of all. "Just a one night kind of thing. You kiss one moment and the next...you...you don't care...." She rubbed her throat, remembering the tightening of the rope. "My number one rule was next to...go for the heart breakers....it'll end in tragedy and once you tell them what's going on they leave you to be hung by a noose." She said as she cringed. She sat up and got up. "I think I should just head back to my dorm....I-I don't like the heart break. My back is against the wall with my dad already....I'll be seeing the noose soon." She picked up her jacket and slipped it on. "If I don't do what I'm told the noose..goes around my neck..." She rubbed her throat.

She was scared, her body was shaking now too. She was afraid of everything coming. "I'm afraid." She whispered. There were actually marks on her neck too. But they had almost healed. She rubbed her neck and whimpered softly. "You....you're going to leave like my mom did, like all my friends did. Just this time...the heart break will be more difficult....my last boyfriend abused me...I was trying to be careful with handing my heart to someone. I can't be open to anyone who will abandon me....who won't help me....this is why no one knows....I never tell anyone what they are into....or I'll get hurt....and the people I care about. So if you don't feel the same way. Say it and I'll leave. I'll let whatever they do take it's events like I always do." She sighed and walked towards the door. "I'm going to my dorm...I'm not coming to class either do don't bother wondering. I have things to get out."

"Wait, Shay," He called to her. "Don't leave, Shay. I like you, and I think your fear is getting the better of you. Don't let that win," he said lifting her chin up with his fingers so he could see her eyes again. He wiped away her tears.

"You are strong, fight this. I can handle myself, and I won't let anyone hurt you. Trust me. We can beat them, things can change, if you would just give it a chance."

"Stay with me, fight with me, we can be a great team. Look I know how it feels to be left, my mother died when I was just a boy, and my father treats me as if I don't exist. I have had my fair share of heartbreak, and I've lost a lot of good friends in the war..."

"I'm not going to tell you what to do, but you're welcome to stay here, give me a chance, give us a chance, and a chance at beating your father at this game." He stared into her silver eyes, something electric about them as if he were gazing into a storm raging with lightning.

Shay looked up at him and she nodded as she removed his hand and put hers gently on his cheek and she smiled as she still had tears rolling. "Alright." She whispered softly as she was breathing softly. "Alright...I'll stay. Fight this fight together." She nuzzled her head into his neck. "My father will hang me by a noose....there's a difference. He would kill me." She said as she had her arms around him and she sighed. "I'll make up a lie so I can stay. Make up something about my night terrors cause me to hurt myself." She sighed as she kissed his nose gently. "I'll stay....I'll stay just because you want me to." She kissed his nose gently. "I'll stay."

"You'll stay because you want to." Indy pulled Shay back onto the bed, and resumed giving her the distraction she needed. Even though she felt like her life was upside-down, Indy was determined to help her. And right now, that meant some affection she deserved. He held her in his arms as they laid in the darkness. He was glad she was going to stay the night.

Shay smiled and she soon fell asleep in his arms. She refused to leave his room, his arms the entire night and she kept sleeping. The next morning she woke up and smiled as she got up and stretched out and she sighed. She was not going to class that morning either way. She just didn't want to go...she didn't know why, but she didn't want to go. She rubbed her eyes and sighed. "Hey Indy, it's morning. It's time to get up." She smiled at him. He was so cute.

Indy rubbed his eyes before realizing what time it was when he looked at his watch. "Morning huh, why does it have to be morning." He said getting up. He put his pants back on and reached for his shirt. "Well, I guess we got to get you back home." he said buttoning up his shirt.

"C'mon let's get you out the back before anyone sees you here. I'll see you in class," He kissed Shay goodbye and sent her on her way after he made sure no one was looking, then he proceeded to shower and prepare himself for another day of teaching.

Indy made his way over to Stroud Hall in his teaching slacks with briefcase and fedora. He strolled down the hall over to room 113 watching some students dashing to their classes before they were marked tardy or absent. As he entered the classroom, he walked over to the blackboard, and wrote two words in large letters; FIELD WALKING, then moved to the podium and laid down his notebook. The walls of the room were lined with wooden cases containing neatly arranged displays of pottery shards, bone fragments, and a few skulls. A table next to the podium was stacked with books and field manuals, and behind it was the blackboard and a wall cluttered with pictographs from digs, which documented discoveries or detailed technical procedures. Indy had prepared yesterday after his classed by setting up the room for his lecture.

He greeted the students, noticing the blond who always snapped her gum, the serious young men in wool suits and ties, and the girls in their sweaters with ponytails and ribbons in their hair. His eyes fell for a moment on a good-looking dark-haired girl who sat in the center of the front row. It was Shay. Of all the students, she was the one who most interested him, but she also kept him on edge. She spoke up often, too often, interrupting with a question or comment, or answering a question he posed to the class as if she were the only one present. But that wasn't the real reason he was wary of her. Her name was Shay Black, and she was the daughter of Dr. James Black, the head of the department and his boss.

He opened his notebook to the lesson he'd prepared a day before yesterday. "Archaeology is one profession where you can take jaunts in the countryside," he began, "and still be working. We even have a name for it. It's called field walking."

Indy looked over the rows of bowed heads of students taking notes. He explained that field walking involved looking for deviations in the landscape. Slight undulations could indicate the remains of an ancient ditch or site of a medieval village. Change in the color of the soil or density of the vegetation was another indicator. If the boundary of a field shifted for no apparent reason or the shoreline of a body of water followed a peculiarly straight line, it might mean the presence of an ancient wall.

"But field walking doesn't always produce results. Stonehenge for example. People have walked all over Stonehenge and the surrounding area and didn't see any changes in landscape because they were too close to them. Near the end of the war, a military airport was built a short distance from the ruins, and photographs taken by a squadron of Royal Air Force in the summer of 1921 revealed some surprising details. It was discovered that the grain in an area leading away from the monument grew in darker colors than the surrounding area. Yet, it was impossible to see from ground level," he said.

"Does anyone know what would cause this to happen?" he asked.

Shay had came in late to class. Something happened. But she didn't speak about it an just sat in the back, rubbing her arm which was now hurting. Her mind was skimming through all the details of what happened. She had said she wasn't going to come into class, but she had to...just to get her mind off of things as normal. Today she didn't speak, she knew the answer, but didn't speak. Her eyes traveled from side to side, trying to keep her mind off of what happened and she rubbed her throat again. Her eyes shifted to the window, she didn't look at Indy once, almost afraid to. Her stomach turned and she tightly closed her eyes and she shook her head, as if she was debating with herself. She knew people would notice how off she was...she knew how off she was.

"When you look for change. It doesn't happen. Your eyes, just looking down at it can deceive you. If you look from the air you can see what others can't...they looked too closely, the farther you get...the closer you come to your answer they also looked in the wrong place for what they needed..it wasn't there." She mumbled, not saying it allowed because she was so upset and jumpy. "Air is the best place to see the answers you're looking for over a large area." Shay mumbled as her hands began shaking again. Her body was shaking. She looked at Indy despite her shaking, "they see what they want to see from the ground. It was there all along....they just didn't look at it the correct way." She said, her voice shaking. None of this was normal. She knew it wasn't and she could feel all eyes on her. It was scaring her for once. She looked at the clock, class would be over soon.

She sat there, shaking, for longer and longer. Finally, near the end of class she couldn't take it. She got up and ran out of the class, leaving her messenger bag inside the class. She was still shaking when she got outside. She looked around, she was breathing hard. "Why....why...." She whispered as she looked around, falling onto the grass with a thump. "Ow." She whimpered and sighed. "I forgot my bag...great..." She sighed and watched the clouds as tears were streaming and she had cracked something when she fell back. She sighed, "maybe he will bring it to me...." She mumbled and at up and there was another crack. "Yeah I'm going to stay here." She said as she waited for Indy to come out as she held her side. She was in bad shape, in her bag had been a journal that she kept of what was going on, drawings of what she had seen...letters...she sighed, she always hoped her father wouldn't catch her...but she was screwed beyond she knew.

Indy paused as Shay spoke up, something was off and she wasn't acting right. She wasn't even answering his question, but Indy ignored her response and continued with his lecture. "It shows that the ground had been dug up in those darker areas, and the roots of the plants were able to penetrate the tough layer of chalk that's just beneath the topsoil. In September of twenty-three, Crawford and Passamore began studying these darker areas, using the pictures as their only guide. They discovered the exact entrance to the ruin and a straight road which reached nearly to Salisbury, eight miles to the north. Stonehenge may be the first archaeological site anywhere that has taken advantage of aerial photography. I'm sure we'll see a lot more of its use in years to come. But we can thank the Royal Air Force for furthering our knowledge of Stonehenge."

He noticed Shay was still not acting right, but he kept going on. As class came to an end, Indy said that next time he would be talking about Stonehenge. "We've already discussed menhirs and dolmens, and now you can add trilithons to your vocabulary. Your assignment is to read all the articles titled 'Excavations at Stonehenge' by Colonel William Hawley that have been published in the Antiquaries Journal since 1920. Hawley as you know, is the archaeologist in charge of the current digging at Stonehenge. We'll talk about what he has found so far and the implications. Class dismissed. And don't forget, there will be a deadline for getting your topic approved for your term paper."

As the students filed out of the room, Indy put his glasses away, gathered up his notes, and thought about what he would say to Shay. When everyone cleared out, Indy grabbed his fedora was ready to walk out when he noticed Shay's messenger bag sitting alone at her desk. She must have left it by accident, Jones thought so he picked it up on his way out.

He searched outside until he found Shay lying down on the grass. He walked over to her and squat down next to her placing her bag by her side. He was quiet as she still looked out of it. "I found this at your desk..." He glanced up to see a man sitting down on a bench turn away a look to his newspaper. "Shay, what's going on?" he asked.

Shay looked at him and she cringed softly as tears formed in her eyes. She don't know what to say to him, what to tell him because she knew someone would find out and she would be in more trouble then she could have ever imagined and she held her side, trying to change the subject. "I think I broke something." She mumbled, sitting up with a small cringe as she whimpered slightly and she took a deep breath and slowly shook her head as she was after all, afraid to tell him what was going on. "I'll....I'll tell you later...." She whispered to him. "They are watching. They're always watching..they haven't left me alone since this morning, I tried to leave and they still followed." She whispered to him as her body was shaking. She took her messenger back and sighed.

"Thanks for not going through it." She said softly as she didnt get up. "I don't think it's best if I move." She said as she sighed and took another deep breath. "They're always watching. Always. My father....he's keeping an eye on you...I heard him....this morning....he was upset..." She said, cringing softly. "That guy....has been following all day. It's creepy and making me sick....they won't stop..."

(Have to head to class would have been longer.)

"Calm down, Shay it's probably nothing. Stop worrying about your father. If he has a problem he can come talk to me," he paused and smiled. "Besides, he doesn't know about us and we will keep it that way. You are my student so you can always tell him I am helping you with your studies or I can hire you as my TA."

He looked over at the bench, but found it empty, the man was gone. That's weird.

Shadow looked up at him and then up at the ceiling. "Yeah....I think he wants me to go talk to him. That's what i'm nervous about because I am positive he is mad at me for something, Indy." She rubbed her face and sighed. "He never asked about you though, I just think I did something that I don't know about or...I don't know." She got up and looked at him, putting her bag over her shoulder. "Thanks, for bringing me my bag...but you need to be careful. Promise me you will."

He sarcastically threw his hand up as if he were swearing an oath which he turned into a bow "I promise" he smiled as he kissed her hand. "Now you need to finish your studies so we can spend more time together."

He walked over to the bench where the guy was and looked around for him, he couldn't find the stranger. A few college girls walked past him, giggling and saying "Hi, Professor Jones." He smiled back and said 'hello' the girls blushed as they asked questions about his personal life. He didn't mind the female attention, but he was worried someone had found out about him and Shay now these girls were testing their skills on him, or maybe he was over-thinking things either way he didn't mind the flirting. It took his mind off the crazy things Shay was worried about Dr. Black and especially Deirdre, who knew what she was up to right now. One of the girls passed him a note before they left, and he was about to read it when he heard his name being called.

"Ah, Professor Jones how are you doing?"

It was Dr. Black behind him, Indy put the note in his pocket as he turned to greet his boss, "I'm doing great, sir, its a beautiful campus you have here I'd be more than happy to stay here and teach regularly on staff."

"Who knows maybe the position will open up, or maybe I can bring it up to the board, but it all depends," he said in a mysterious manner.

"Depends on what?"

"Your cooperation of course, Don't worry you have been doing well in your classes, you are very popular among the students, favorite professor actually, but this isn't about your job this is about something else, you'll find out soon enough. Just remember to do what you're told, I'm watching you," the larger man said pointing his cane at Indy's chest before walking off to his office.

Strange things are going on here, maybe Shay was right... Now to read that note.

Shadow smiled at Indy, looking at him with a sigh before walking away from him. She was nervous about something, but she had seen before she left with the girls...then something on paper. She looked down slightly. Maybe she wasn't Indy's type. Maybe she just should switch classes. She would have to talk to her father about that. She sighed and walked away. She first went to her own room and threw her bag in a corner and plopped on the floor as she rubbed her face. SHe didn't even know this man and she was having some sort of feelings for him.

She sighed, leaving her dorm and she locked the door. She just didn't want to go through a heart breaker again. She hated having to think about going through another heart break. "I'm just not ready for another heart break." She whispered as she would walk up to her fathers office. She was walking slow and nervously as she was very scared right now. She sighed as she walked up and knocked on the door softly. She had a sad look on her face.

She waited till she was allowed inside and looked at her father and she sat down. "Dad, can I talk to you about Professor Jones?" She asked as she looked a little upset. She just wanted to get this over with. She had so many questions to ask her father because she didn't want her professor getting hurt. Even if she knew she wasn't his type and she would have to tell him they couldn't see each other like they had done the night before. She had to tell him, but the question was...how could she tell him. "I just need to ask you a few questions...are you planning to induct him into the group?" She asked. Shadow's silver eyes had lost the gleam because she really was worried about her professor.
