Congratulations! You've been accepted into one of the colleges rated in the Top 20 Best Education Value for a public university. It services over 13,000 undergraduate and graduate students in almost 60 fields and more than 35 countries. It has a nationally ranked ROTC program and was recently awarded a grant to become a Homeland Defense Training School. It has a very active Journalism department and it's own student run television and radio stations. It also offers nearly any amenity a student could need right on campus including an on campus movie theater, bowling alley, art gallery, well-equipped gym and recreational sports center, paintball field, bookstore, convenience store, food court, emergency care, bus transit system, and more.

All of this is located right outside the quaint town of Pinebox, nestled on the remains of a once-vast, dense forest called The Big Thicket - which ranges across Texas, Louisiana, and beyond. The area boasts numerous hiking and biking trails as well as excellent fishing and water sports opportunities at nearby Lake Greystone. Despite hosting a nationally ranked university, Pinebox has managed to maintain its rural roots, something many students have said is one of the best things about ETU.
That's the basic setting for you. What you need to know is that this is based on a table top game (in fact that's where all the setting information, cover letter, and influence on the sheets is from) where all the characters will be starting out as college Freshmen attending ETU. For all intensive purposes, the town and ETU are both your average everyday - run of the mill - type places. But you'll learn quickly that's not the case. There's more to it than meets the eye, and graduating from ETU doesn't simply mean passing your exams - you have to survive. Strange things go bump in the night in the Big Thicket, and live beneath the surface at Lake Greystone; unfortunately, your biggest concern can't just be pass your classes or survive the monsters - you have to do them both.
Here is the more in depth information about the area, town, and school:

East Texas isn't the tumbleweed-strewn desert depicted in Westerns. To the contrary, it has many rivers, streams, and lakes, and is known for it's water skiing, bass fishing, and camping at several state parts, not to mention hundreds of miles of hiking and biking trails through heavy forest.

Feel free to pitch concepts if you're not sure if it would be okay, and definitely ask questions. If you're not sure about something, definitely ask first before going through the effort of a write up without knowing if it will pass or not.

There are quite a few restrictions I'm going to be placing on characters - for now - but it won't last for long. Your character can be any background, any origin, almost any country, major, whatever....However, they should be fresh out of high school and normal. That means no coming in with magical powers or super great at anything right off the bat, though these things may come up. I do understand there are geniuses and kids that are highly skilled at certain things at a young age, but there shouldn't be a bunch here so I am regulating it. If you want someone to be super great at something right off the bat, contact me first.

There is one more type of character that you need to message me about before entering in the thread. Characters may be allowed to come in with a sort of psychically sensitive gift - like sensing supernatural creatures/disturbances, or even having a spirit guardian that wards off evil spirits though you cannot communicate at this time aside from simple body gestures/language, or even the potential for precognitive premonitions. If one of those kind of things interests you, you have to contact me first and let me know what you were thinking and see if it works for the thread. People who do not contact me and make a character with some kind of ability will not be approved. There is a limited amount of characters I will accept of this nature, so do not be upset if I tell you I am not approving any more even if the characters haven't been posted yet.
The Elaborate Character Sheet

Name: Character's full first and last name
Preferred Name/Nickname: What your character introduces him/herself as and/or goes by for the thread.
Age: Since not every college freshman is 18. Please - no younger than 17, no older than 19. Anyone wishing for an exception must contact me.

Gender: Note that non-binary will still be housed by their physical gender. The co-ed dorms still have males housed with males and females housed with females even though both genders are housed in the same building.

Housing Preferences: What kind of person would you like to avoid being housed with? Is there a type of person you would prefer to be housed with? Do you believe you qualify for special housing; if so, why?

Major: What are you majoring in? You may be undecided, but will need to choose a major by junior year. If you are double majoring, write in both.

Minor: Only fill out if applicable. Not everyone decides to take a minor.

Extracurricular Activity: You may only pick one of the following in bold, unless you are good at multitasking (see below):

What do you feel is your best natural ability? Pick one of the words in bold: Are you more agile than anything else? Is it your intelligence? Your inner wisdom/will power give you exceptional spirit? Do you feel your strength is best? Are you heartier than others, able to endure more pain and have a naturally strong immune system due to your body's vigor?

What do you feel is your weakest natural ability? Pick one: agile, intelligence, spirit, strength, vigor.

What languages do you speak? That means English, and one additional language (unless noted elsewhere that your character is good with languages. If that is the case, you may have up to three additional languages on top of your native language.) If you're not from America and English is not your primary language, you either need to be taking the English as a Second Language class or have that as your additional language; though if you are taking English as a Second language, you will have problems communicating with the other characters *that do not share a language* and this should come up.

What do you feel your skill set is? The following are just a few things to think about: Are you great at swimming? Do you know how to do tactical maneuvers in your car? Did you take martial arts while growing up? Are you really good at finding out information; if so, researching it or talking to people to get it? Etc. You can list out skills, but making them a sentence about how good your character is at any given skill would be preferred; examples: "She can pick locks, but only just started." or "Being able to search volumes to find the right information is almost like second nature to him."

Hindrances: You must have at least three things that will cause a problem/hold you back at some point. What are some of the things that would set your character back? Too loyal and would never leave a friend to die despite being told to run away? Has a problem keeping his mouth shut, generally at the worst times? Did you get stuck with an annoying roommate that insists on joining you wherever you go? Does technology sometimes just kind of malfunction around you, like an MP3 player you've been using for a few months suddenly stop working or a memory stick wipe clean between transferring the files onto it and carrying it to the class you needed the project in? Maybe trouble follows you wherever you go - be it a bothersome cop giving you a ticket the second your parking meter runs out or a crazy ex tracking you down and insisting you take her back. Perhaps it's even a problem focusing to get your work done, or that your parents keep calling you or showing up at the worst times. Is there something you're deathly afraid of and will freeze up upon seeing it? Are you from a different country and more than just Texan customs causing you confusion? These are just a few of the things that could hold you back and cause you problems.

Helpful Edge: For every thing that is just a minor thing, you can have one really good aspect to help balance it all out. Starting out, you should have no more helpful aspects than you do hindrances, and fewer if you don't have many majorly problematic aspects. This is where you would note if your family is rich. Or maybe you're just naturally gifted at taking tests. Or if you're naturally charismatic and great with interactions regardless of who it is. Perhaps you have some background trait like that you're a gymnast/acrobat that could come in handy at some point. Perhaps your faithful and that is where your inner wisdom/will comes from and is strengthened by it. Maybe you already know someone on the staff, or might have an extracurricular activity that sets you in higher standings with a particular teacher or person of influence in the community. You could even be good at managing your time well and be able to fit more than one extracurricular activity into your schedule. Perhaps, even, you have a bit of a psychic ability; if this is the case you must contact me for details of what is allowed in this setting at this time.

Vehicle Registration: Is it a mid-size car, an SUV, a street bike? You are free to be as specific or as vague as you please, but at least note if you have a vehicle or not. If you do not have a vehicle, you may instead have a transportation pass which will get you to town and back via a university run shuttle bus that only drops off to specific places in Pinebox.

Appearance: What does your character look like? What kind of clothing does the character wear? Use full sentences and at least a paragraph to describe your character - and try to be descriptive. If your character has hair that isn't a natural color, I want to know how what their natural color is and how they got the new color. If your character has eye color that isn't natural, tell me what their natural eye color is and note they have contacts. If you wish to include a photo reference, it must be a real photograph and must hidden in either a hider or a hotlink.

Interests: What interests you? What do you enjoy doing? Favorite foods, colors, etc can go here.

Disinterests: What do you avoid or avoid doing? Pet peeves can be included.

Personality: How do you act? Are there any nervous ticks/eccentricities that you have, like twirling your hair or biting your nails when thinking or do you have to touch whatever you're near? Leave out history as much as possible.

Equipment: What did you bring with you aside from clothes? A laptop - if so, how good is it? A cell phone - if so, how good is it? A musical instrument? A favorite book? Mementos from home? Really, it can be a list of anything you would have brought; those are just a few things to consider.

Brief Bit About Them: Are they excited for college? How was their home life? Sexual preference and/or sexual history could go here. Anything notable about their lives prior to entering ETU goes here. Although you can include as much or as little as you would like, this doesn't need to be - and shouldn't be - paragraphs of elaboration.

Notes: Anything about the character that doesn't fit anywhere else but you believe I need to know about the character.

It will be helpful if you post each sheet in a separate post, so it's easier to hotlink individuals. It is not required though.

I also wanted to let you know that I will get my first sheet up tomorrow at some point, as I am currently working on the first plots.
If a plot just isn't doing it for you/your character, rest assured you can back out of that particular plot and there will be something else for you to do. Not everyone has to get in on the same plot; it is just helpful if you let me know you're not interested in a plot via posting here so I can more easily see it. I have no problem with adding in another plot.

You forgot about ground hornets. I went to a CAP encampment at Big Sandy and heard horror stories about cadets being put in the infirmary because of them. They're aggressive, and their sting will put you out for a couple of days.

Also, damn, dat CS doe. That's pretty intense, but I'll get to work.

I will do some research and add in ground hornets. We've got them in my area - and I'm definitely not around Texas. They are super nasty, and I remember reading a story from about a decade or two back when a case where a toddler died from hornet stings when he was playing in his backyard and disturbed a nest.

Also, yeah - I know I went pretty intense. That elaboration is just for reference, in case people get tapped ('cause I know sometimes I do), and...stuff. Don't any feel the need to rush; I know it'll take me some time to get my information ready after I'm done plotting.

Alright. I'll break the character sheet bubble. At least I've managed to make a sheet more lengthy than the elaborated example. ;)

Name: Naomi Loker
Preferred Name/Nickname: Naomi
Age: 18
Gender: Female
Housing Preferences: Preference: Non-smoker, female only dorm building, quiet person. First floor is a must.
Avoid: housing near sororities/fraternities.
Major: Paralegal
Minor: Creative Writing
Extracurricular Activity: Library Assistant
What do you feel is your best natural ability? Agility
What do you feel is your weakest natural ability? Strength
What languages do you speak? English, Italian
What do you feel your skill set is?

Hindrances: She is overly cautious; hesitant to agree to anything out of her norm without knowing all the information that can be provided. Her pacifism isn’t a stance against fighting; it causes her anxiety or even just completely shut down and takes a lot for her to even attempt to run rather than just go fetal. In her eyes, she isn’t as good as the others around her and believes credit due to her will just be passed off to someone else or that they will simply overlook her.

Helpful Edge: She is faster than she leads most people to believe. Her gymnast like body as well as some of her other skills make it easier for her to slip into small crevices, balance on thin ledges, or otherwise maneuver on/in areas most others cannot. Sometimes it seems like Karma is trying to pay her back, and she often just ‘lucks into’ immediately looking at the right book for information or even having some crucial detail catching her eye.

Vehicle Registration: grey Subaru Legacy
Appearance:

Interests: writing (fiction and poetry), reading (mostly romance and poetry), singing, researching, playing board games, quiet places, rainy days, listening to music
Disinterests: parties, loud noises, boisterous people, loud thunderstorms, ostentatious people, getting too much attention - particularly from boys

Personality:

Equipment: average laptop; touch screen/slider phone; Ipod; several notebooks; well worn copies of Robert Frost, William Blake, and Edger Allen Poe collections; a handful of romance novels; the jacket and sweatshirt of her best friend; a penguin named Blake

Brief Bit About Them: Her best friend is paying for her college, but it was her therapist that recommended ETU as a way to prove her progress to herself. It might take a little bit for her to get comfortable with a roommate, but she’ll try. She’s never had a real relationship with anyone - which probably isn’t very surprising given her abuse victim history - and the closest she’s ever come was for her stories. Although not quite sure what to consider herself sexually, she internally will admit attraction more toward females than males.

Notes: I have the intent of having her evolve throughout the RP - though it will not happen immediately.

Name: Kirina Ivgenova
Preferred Name/Nickname: Kira
Age: 19
Gender: Female

Housing Preferences: “Я искалa ...Oops, sorry. Wrong language. Uhm.. I was looking for someone who has similar interests as me, and who wont judge me for the things I like. Gamers, all around nerds, animal lovers. All ok by me. Please don’t room me with someone who smokes!”

Major: “Disappointment…Hah, I’m kidding. Double Majoring in Film and Screenwriting”
Minor: N/A
Extracurricular Activity: Gaming

What do you feel is your best natural ability? Agility
What do you feel is your weakest natural ability? Vigor.
What languages do you speak? Fluent in Russian and English

What do you feel your skill set is?
She is very quick on her feet, always one of the last one standing in a game of dodge ball.
A wiz at hacking computers and altering files, she can change alter her computer settings and create code barriers that don't allow any unwanted guests from viewing her files. Needless to say she can also do some serious damage to someone else's computer if she wanted to.
Kira is also incredibly well rounded with anything that has to do with nature, before she moved on to college she worked at a pet store and bother her parents are veterinarians. She’s great with animals and dogs just seem to like her.

Hindrances:
Kira’s body is incredibly weak. She suffers from a list of health issues:
Solar urticaria. She is extremely allergic to the sun, if the weather is hotter than 80 and she is outside for too long her skin will boil and swell. Kira suffers from two types of asthma: Allergy induced and Activity induced. Although she is incredibly fast, it usually leaves her wheezing. And since she is allergic to many..many things, her allergy induced asthma is also hard to keep under control. She also has very weak intestines which process food very slowly, eating a lot causes her immense pain.
Her parents do not talk to her anymore.
She is deathly afraid of centipedes.

Helpful Edge:
Kira has never lost a race. She is so competitive that despite doctors orders, and her asthma, she will never pass on the opportunity to run.
She is very hard headed. Once she sets her mind to something, she will get it done. (This however also means that if she doesn’t want to do something, she will not do it.)
Hacking and gaming come naturally to her and within minutes she can type up a code or master a game.
Going into a film major means you need to be creative, and Kira uses that to her advantage. A master planner, she can whip up some sort of trick or prank in no time at all.

Vehicle Registration: She owns a black RGSX Suzuki motorcycle. She only got her license a month or so ago so she isn’t very good at riding It yet.

Appearance:

She has a dimple on only her right cheek, that's usually what stands out first, and Kira hates it. No one pays attention to anything else really, not her flaming red/ginger hair that hangs in wisps around her head, not her face full of dainty freckles that sprinkle across her nose. No one even pays attention to her round cheeks, which give off a natural pink glow when she's nervous. Just that stupid dimple.

Her button nose, coy smile and round, mist green eyes, which can’t see anything without her contacts, make her look all too much like a living doll, especially when she laughs, when her face is at it's brightest. And the rest of her body doesn't help much with that image. Standing aroung five foot four she barely weighs 110 lbs.
Her clothing choices are bizarre to say the least. Russian elegance mixed with gamer girl make for a different outfit every day. She can wear a stylish dress and high heels to her morning classes, and change into a sweat pants and t-shirt by evening time.

Interests: Animals, Movies, Cameras, PC , Any sort of games, Hamburgers, Russian food

Disinterests:
Kira hates people that don’t look out for the environment. Most of all she despises when people are mean to animals or abusive.
She has no interest in sports, her body doesn’t allow her to be a part of them.
She wont eat anything strange, and she doesn’t like seafood.

Personality: Kirina is kind hearted, caring, loving and soft spoken towards strangers. Kira’s personality is also generally cheerful, and she can be quite talkative toward her friends and even to strangers if they get her going about her hobbies. During gaming she has a ferocious temper and is often very hard to calm down. She is very defensive and stubborn, often willing to challenge someone even if she knows she’s wrong. Other than that, Kirina is described as accepting, caring, always ready for a new experience, a new day, a new chance to be better, and always ready to share it with who ever happened to be close.

Equipment:
Gaming equipment: Falcon Northwest Mach V (Triple Titan) computer with two 20 inch monitors and three separate mice (she’s known to break them)
Pentax K-x camera
A book shelf and boxes of reading material to fill it with.
Wall scrolls of favorite movies and anime
A black parasol to keep her away from the sun.
Her medications.
Contact lenses and glasses just in case
Cell phone

Brief Bit About Them:
Kira has been in three terrible relationships, causing her to fear commitment.
She can’t wait to start school and stop focusing on her home town and family.
She is still deeply connected to her Russian roots and will never forget about her (and her family’s) history.

Name: Allan Blondeau-Tisdale
Preferred Name/Nickname: Introduces himself as Allan but his friends calls him BT. The Tribe calls him
mockingly Lonesome Buffalo.
Age: 18
Gender: Male

Housing Preferences: Allan's family is quite influential in Pinebox with 3 generations of SETI-ETU attenders each following in the previous footsteps. They all resided in the traditional Lester Hughes Dormitory and they were all noteworthy alumni. So it came to be that Allan Blondeau-Tisdale only had one housing preference. Anything besides Lester Hughes Dormitory. To make a stance, pave his own way or simply just be difficult Allan maintained this demand despite heavy pressure from the larger family.

Major: Social Studies

Minor: Horticulture

Extracurricular Activity: Party Animal: Shindigs, Soirees or your twilight round round, Allan finds a way to bring him into the mix.

What do you feel is your best natural ability? Vigor(Determination)

What do you feel is your weakest natural ability? Agility (Allan's joints sound like a bicycle in desperate need of an oiling.

Hindrances:
Socially Assholy: Its not premeditated more a production of his environment. He has grown accustomed to a certain level of social rudeness or ruthlessness therefor he has problem making relations.

Karma is a bitch: Somehow the equal reaction law seems to work on a metaphysical level for Allan. Yet he never learns.

Helpful Edge:
Notoriety: Everybody native of Pinebox knows of family Blondeau and Tisdale. So there is an inclination for people to do stuff for him due to this fact.
Weekly Allowance: Lets just say this Allan never has money problems.
Iron Belly: Can basically eat anything, from fermented fish to sheep intestines.

Vehicle Registration: Chrome Hearts x Cervelo.

I know what you are thinking, his father owns a car retail business so Allan has to be contradictory yet again. Nope he simply just cant learn how to drive a car properly.

His favorite pair of shoes are brown leather low cut and airy. Upscale sandals one could say. Allan is quite weak looking, no real defining muscles, around 176 cm in height and weighs around 70 kg. Other noteworthy sets is a black shallow-necked tailcoat with black high-heeled shows, a purpur tie and silver buttons on the sleeves.

Interests: Caddoian Culture, Beer Pong, Food Challenges, 90's Cartoons.

Disinterests:
Cats. he dont care for cats.
He has absolutely no interest of politics.
Sports.

Personality: Allan speaks his mind oftenly without consideration of the others feelings. With intoxication emerges his minority complex and may proceed to actin a fool. Sometimes he comes to the realisation that nobody likes him and he regresses into a bubble. Otherwise he likes gossip. He also has mindset for adventure and an ignorance for regulation.

Equipment:
MacBook Pro: Black outer rims and white inner rims. Very fancy but he only uses about 20% of its features.
Iphone 5: Remember he really digs Steve Jobs.
A copy of Mateguas Island mystery novel.
A Ping Pong ball with a drunk emoticon drawn on it.
Beats by Dr.Dre headphones white.
Caddo Token (Pic) with Lonesome Buffalo engraved for official recognition. Obtained by bombarding the tribe with ancestry claims until they gave in.

Brief Bit About Them: The Blondeau's migrated from Canada and settled in Pinebox Texas late 19th century. Basically they followed the railroad and the pipeline heading south. In Pinebox they soon earned a reputation of hardwork and resourcefulness. They married into the Tisdale family early 20th century, a family with ancestry going back 200 years in the region with autoshops and motor retails all over east texas.
At present time they are considered a very influential family with ties to big business, politics and shady dealings. Through thorough research Allan has found out that he has caddoan lineage. His native name Lonesome Buffalo roughly translates into loud person who dont play well with others. He has 4 older brothers and a younger sister. 3 of the brothers have already been integrated into the family business. The last one is lost by all accounts meaning nobody have seen him for over a year. Despite his creditentials getting a girlfriend has not been easy for him. The most rewarding relationship for him to date was online.

Errand, please message me regarding your character.

Also, coding is below your 'submit post' button. For hotlinking it's [{url=http://example.com]Click Me[/url] (except no { ) which produces this: Click Me.

Edit: anyone else in the future considering a Pinebox native - message me. I will admit honest oversight regarding putting that into the rules. (Admittedly I didn't think anyone was going to make a Pinebox denizen.)

I have updated the list of accepted characters.

It's definitely still open. We need at least one more character, though preferably more than that, to start this.

I have one more sheet coming, but it's for a senior who is only plotted to be involved for the opening mixer (reference the acceptance letter above) and after that will be around in the background if anyone decides to seek out the character.

Name: Asher Parker
Preferred Name/Nickname: Asher
Age: 18
Gender: Male
Housing Preferences: Someone creative, definitely not someone homophobic. A room with a lot of space would also be nice.
Major: Musical Theater
Minor: Business Management
Extracurricular Activity: Performer. The stage is his home.

What do you feel is your best natural ability? Intelligence.
What do you feel is your weakest natural ability? Spirit
What languages do you speak? French, Spanish
What do you feel your skill set is?

Hindrances:
Bitchy: Whenever he’s in a bad mood, he takes it out on everyone in a very extraverted way. He can become a real bully when this happens. These moods aren’t spontaneous, but who he takes it out on can be.

Jealous: If someone is better than him or more good-looking than him or even wealthier than him, it fucks him up. He can’t let himself get along with them.

Ambiguous Sexuality: He doesn’t know what he wants or likes and he’s never really had a crush on anyone either. It’s the source of a lot of pain and confusion for him some days.

Attention Whore: It’s less of a problem that he likes being the center of attention and more of a problem in that he hates being ignored or talked over. It’s very difficult for him to be inconspicuous.

Helpful Edge:
Female Friendly: He’s an avid feminist and a total Mommy’s Boy. Older women flock to him because he knows how to flatter a woman and younger women flock to him because he acts flamboyant enough to be deemed “safe”.

Acting and Impersonating: He can mimic almost any voice, regardless of gender, after hearing it a few times. As an actor, he can make up characters on the spot and follow through with their personality, accents included.

Improvising: He can improvise in music very well, but he can make up stories on the spot, too. Some call it lying, but he thinks of it as entertaining. Improvising is also used as a means of escape for him, if he’s ever caught somewhere he shouldn’t be. He’s like a MacGyver with words.

Memory: He has an excellent memory from a couple of summers at Shakespeare camp when he was young. He learned how to memorize stupidly long scripts and has utilized that technique for pretty much everything, especially if it’s written.

Vehicle Registration: Orange 2011 Mini Cooper Convertible.

Appearance: Asher has dark brown hair with a trendy undercut and bangs that stops just above his left eyebrow. He’s not very tall, 5’8.5”, but visibly fit; more for dance than anything else. He has round, green-ish hazel eyes that are very telling to his emotions. He has a fair, light complexion that tans more than it burns.

He never dresses in anything dark or understated and absolutely nothing conservative. He prefers vibrant colors and things that match or go with each other. There’s always some kind of accessory on him, be it a bowtie, a hat or suspenders. It’s hard to see him in the same outfit twice.

Interests: Musical Theater (obviously). Stories, shopping, interesting people, music, parties, performances of any kind, math and sciences
Disinterests: Competitive sports, fighting sports, politics, religion

Brief Bit About Them: Asher has two older brothers and one younger sister that he loves to death and can’t stand in equal parts. He never went wanting in his childhood, except for attention once his sister was born. He was thrilled to go to college, but he’s less thrilled that his college of choice is in the middle of the sticks. Ever since he was a kid in community theater, he wanted to star on Broadway. His parents got him private voice lessons, acting coaches, and signed him up for a dance class as he grew up. He got leads all through middle school, high school and in some of the out of school programs he joined, but it wasn’t until high school things started getting weird for him and the other theater kids. He considers himself a late bloomer compared to the boys and girls that were experimenting backstage. The only kisses he ever gave or received were in character or during a game of spin the bottle. He’s always been too much of a prude to try anything more.

Notes: His father is a best-selling romance novelist. It's where a lot of the wealth in his family comes from.

Okay, so I finally added the senior/student adviser. You can find the sheet in the hider located amongst the accepted characters.

I'm still hoping for another person or two before I start this.

Name: Jacob Logan Taylor.

Preferred Name/Nickname: Jake.

Age: 19.

Gender: Male.

Housing Preferences: No preference.

Major: Physics.

Minor: Russian Language.

Extracurricular Activity: Party Animal.

What do you feel is your best natural ability?: Intelligence.

What do you feel is your weakest natural ability?: Strength.

What languages do you speak?: English; Russian.

What do you feel your skill set is?: Jake is really a jack of all trades, though there are things that he could be seen as standing out in. He's a fairly quick learner about technical things in general, and has a good memory to back it up. In particular he is good at figuring out how machines work, and will sometimes take things apart for the sake of learning how they work and familiarizing himself with them. He claims he could do it with an engine block, but he would never actually do it on a working vehicle for fear that he does get something wrong putting it back together. He is also a knowledgeable and experienced shooter and can learn how a firearm works, given a few minutes of tinkering and familiarization. The same applies for his schoolwork, and he is quick to grasp and retain ideas, concepts and theories related to his studies. There are certain things that he doesn't really get, but can do anyways; a good example being that he is a good singer but doesn't know anything about musical theory.

Hindrances: Jake sometimes has problems keeping his mouth shut and might say something a bit out of line. His reasons are generally good, or at least well-founded, but it has landed him in trouble before. He also generally has problems when it comes to dedication, particularly in anything work-related. He is also one of those types of people who is concerned more about others' well being than his own, and he has done things and taken falls for friends, family, and even complete strangers in some cases. Additionally, he has a strong hatred of heat, and he can become irritable if exposed to hot environments for prolonged periods (he would have gone to college out of state if the tuition weren't more expensive). Last but not least, and he'll never admit it, but if Jake notices something off, like if he thinks a car has been following him, or he hears something weird, he will get apprehensive and paranoid, which is part of why he always has his knife with him. Most of the time he writes it off as just something and gets over it, but there are times when he becomes truly spooked, and in these cases he tends to get defensive and stop thinking clearly until he thinks it's safe. It's not that he scares easy, more like he tends to get anxious when he has insufficient data about a situation, and he hates surprises.

Helpful Edge: Even though Jake has gotten into trouble on multiple occasions, he has a sort of charismatic presence that prevents him from getting the fullest extent of any punishment. It's not that he doesn't get in trouble, but he almost always receives a less severe punishment than would be expected. Most of the reason he isn't doing worse in school due to his carefree behavior is because he learns things quickly and has good memory, plus he actually attends every lecture unlike some of his drunken cohorts. He also has a way with keeping cool in situations where he knows what he's dealing with, and can think quickly under pressure, so long as the aforementioned requisite is met. Most importantly is probably his instinct and insightful nature, and while he can't predict the future, he does often get good or bad vibes about things.

Vehicle Registration: Lime Green 2003 Kawasaki KLX400R.

Appearance: Jake is pretty much average as far as appearances go. He stands at 5' 9" and weighs about 145 lbs. He's far from out of shape, and his thin figure lends to that to an extent, but he's also not particularly in shape. He has green eyes and wavy/curly brown hair, which he tries to keep straightened. He'll wear a black beanie if he doesn't have it straightened for whatever reason. He tries to keep his face clear of hair, but sometimes he'll allow a five o'clock shadow to grow in on days that he feels too lazy to shave.

He usually wears relatively plain clothes, generally a solid-colored t-shirt or v-neck, blue jeans, and converse. Sometimes he'll wear a complimentary casual button-down shirt along with the aforementioned undershirt. He keeps one 3 piece suit on hand, along with several dress shirts, vests and ties, all of which are solid colors. He also has a couple of hoodies, one of which has Black Mesa logos on the front and back, along with a Red Army winter coat for the colder months.

Interests: Partying hard, target shooting, Russian stuff, music, movies, physics, psychology, science, science fiction, writing.

Disinterests: Politics, government, religion, sports, Texas.

Personality: Jake is an overall easygoing guy with a kind heart and a good head on his shoulders, though he does often enjoy going to parties. He is rarely seen in a bad mood, unless you get him started on the state of the world. He tries to avoid thinking about it, but there are certain things that will make his blood boil, and when he gets started he says it like it is, and with no regrets. He's the sort of person who would charge headlong at an armed robber with nothing but a pocket knife just to spite them. He's not really brave in that sense, just stupid, feeling that he has a moral obligation to help others with no concern for his own safety, which lends to the idea that he has sort of a hero complex, even though he'll claim that this is not true. He would simply say that he does things without a second thought, because it's the right thing to do.

Equipment:
Fairly powerful laptop
Android phone
MP3 Player
Poker deck
Notebooks
Russian copy of Roadside Picnic
Spring-assisted knife
Mosin-Nagant (stored securely on-campus)

Brief Bit About Them: Jake was born and raised in Dallas as an only child, raised primarily by his father. His parents got divorced when he was 7 and his father got custody due to his mother having a drinking problem. Since then, life has been fairly uneventful for Jake. He has always done fairly well in school and picked up on things quite easily. His father was an avid shooter, and Jake shot his first gun when he was twelve, sparking his interest in shooting. His interest in Russia began not long afterwards when he shared a class in eighth grade with Sergei Grigorovich, a student from Russia. The two became friends, and even though Sergei already knew a fair amount of English, Jake offered to help him learn more in exchange for bits and pieces of Russian. The two remained friends all the way through High School, and Jake became well-versed in Russian by the time he graduated. Unlike Sergei, along with most of his friends, Jake didn't know what to do after High School, despite having earned several thousands of dollars in scholarship money. He decided to take a year off from schooling, thinking that it would give him time to decide what to do, and attend some parties on the side. He knew he'd have to apply fairly early to get accepted to any good colleges, so he applied for ETU in early November, shortly before his 19th birthday. He has since been accepted; the scholarships covering tuition while his dad pays for housing. All in all, he's happy to be moving forward with his life.

Notes: Even though Jake is already fairly fluent in Russian, he figures minoring in it couldn't hurt, plus it's practically a free second degree. That shit looks good on a resume.

Sorry for not checking this earlier.

Do people mind if we start this Sunday night/Monday afternoon?
I'm not going to be available much tomorrow, and Friday I will be leaving around noon (EST aka -05:00 Universal) for a weekend LARP. That means limited access (via my cell) for about 60 hours.

Fine by me too, I've been dealing with an extremely sick fish so my mood has been pretty shitty the last few days. (Pretty lame reason to be upset, I know) So starting later this weekend works perfect for me.
