Los Angeles, California. It began the previous day when numerous cases of animal attacks and food poisoning popped up around LA County. Hundreds of people were hospitalized in various medical facilities across the county, and all of them reported a sickness that got steadily worse. Come midnight, local police were dispatched to various hospitals around Los Angeles County. Turns out, people were turning into rabid monsters, hell-bent on spreading a mysterious pathogen that had taken them over. A state of emergency was declared at 2:03 AM across LA County, and the military was brought in to contain the outbreak. However, the outbreak simply spread, and a county-wide quarantine was issued at 4:07 AM.

Our story starts at the issuing of the quarantine across LA County, California, at 4:07 AM, June 28th, 2014. We start at the exact moment where we lost the privilege to simply ignore what was going on in different areas across LA County. Only 10% of the population in LA County has turned thus far, but it will only spread more rapidly, and chaos and anarchy is about to erupt as we start the RP.

To try and differentiate this RP's zombies, they'll be coming in 3 stages. Runners > Walkers > Mutants. For further detail, see this document.

I'm looking for about 4 players, myself included, and we will be starting at Los Angeles International Airport. I'm looking for the plot to be driven by our characters and their stories, and for us to get acquainted with places in Los Angeles County.

I'm going to wait until the site is a bit more developed before starting the RP itself, so I would really appreciate being able to use the time to brainstorm, discuss ideas, and just talk things through so that the RP's got a more solid foundation once it's up.

I find that I'm probably not the best person to GM an RP, so if someone could help co-GM with me, that would be appreciated too.

INTEREST.
(Edit)

STRENGTHS:
I'm pretty unconventional in how I portray my ideas, and I'm pretty creative. I love this genre of roleplay, and am pretty well versed in some of the lore surrounding it. I suppose working well with others could count as a strength? I'm not really cocky about my skill as a writer (because, let's face it, there's not much). I'm capable of consistent posts (this honestly shouldn't be a strength, but honestly I'm sure we've all seen RPs die because of this), and I'm always trying to improve my writing (not just as an RPer, as a college student as well). I'm alright. I realize I could be better and I suppose I strive for that-- but I also do this because I find it very fun and relaxing.

WEAKNESSES:
My posting style might just rub someone the wrong way. I could be much better at proof reading (like, at all) and my grammar and sentence structure occasionally suffers because of this. My sarcasm might be a little grating. And I am something of a slow writer and reader, so when I do edit it takes me anywhere from hours to days (and it can still use improvement). My writing depends heavily on the type of day I have, and I tend to not really pass the 2-3 paragraph mark.

Hmm, certainly better thought out than many other zombie roleplays I've seen... Interested and happy to help refine any ideas.

Alright, so just enough people interested for me to fill my quota of 4 players.

What do you all bring to the table? What are your strengths and weaknesses as roleplayers? What ideas do you have flowing through your heads in regards to what I presented?

Let's see, strengths and weaknesses... I spell well, as well as boast a good vocabulary. I also follow excellent grammar, and can be quite creative. Weaknesses: my characters tend to be quite self centered, and occasionally foster ulterior motives, which, I will of course discuss first.

Strengths: I've been complimented on my characters. I try my best to make them as three dimensional as possible. I take the time on my posts to make them as well written as I can with correct grammar and punctuation. Or at least readable! :) Completely in love with this type of RP and since I've had a hard time finding a good, quality survival RP that is driven by characters, I will work my hardest to bring whatever I can to the RP.

Weaknesses: My creativity tends to be on the weak side. May or may not be a weakness, but I prefer my characters darker than typical and sometimes a little difficult to get along with. I don't quite yet have a character idea for this, but it tends to lean that way, anyway. Also, I can't say I'm all that great in action sequences, but I'm willing to learn.

If I think of anything else, I'll edit. I wanted to get this in before I read the information you've linked to, then I may have some comments. Thank you for the Interest Check, as well!

I can say that I'm overall fun to play with, I try to interact with other characters as much as possible and get into their game. I also take joy in describing stuff. My english is not the best but you won't be reading simple stuff from me like "he aimed for the head, shooting and killing the zombie". I don't obsess with every little detail either... at least not anymore. Also, most of the time I play reflexive and pessimistic characters, so there's gonna be a lot of character development, inner monologues and reactions with whatever's going on.

My bad side would be that I don't have an extensive vocabulary and may end up repeating words, but that's why I role play with a dictionary in another tab. I may take things too slowly sometimes, but I'm working on that.

That's 8 people, myself included. I actually thought about how I could have more people, so I have an idea on how we could work with more than 4 players.

3 of you are going to start at Los Angeles International Airport with me. Search up some photos, maps, and other info on it on Google Maps, Wikipedia, Wikimapia, Panoramio, and other sites. 4 of you are going to start somewhere else, and I want you guys to look through places in LA County as I will so that I know you've acquainted yourselves with the area.

I'm interested. As far as strengths and weaknesses, you already know me but I'll go ahead and post them anyway.

My spelling and grammar (and other stuff of that nature) are pretty well-developed, though I do have some errors now and then. Apocalypse roleplays are probably my favorite genre of roleplays, so that is a strength. I follow the rules set out by the GM (you in this case).

My biggest "weakness" is that my posts vary in creativity. Sometimes they are extremely detailed, thought out, and well-written. Other times they are short and to the point. This is something I've been trying to work out, and hopefully won't be a problem for too long.

Welcome aboard, Vert.

How would you all feel about using Downtown LA for one of the groups' starting points? LA International could be for those who want to see the chaos develop slowly and steadily, and Downtown LA would be for those who want to get straight into the chaos itself.

Strengths: Conceptually creative, good grammar and language skills, generally vary detailed or colorful descriptions and happy to not always be a major part of a plot line.

Weaknesses: Not always the best at making or sticking to long reaching plotlines and I can have a short attention span. Posting frequency may vary as I live in Australia (my timezone often clashes on this site), I'm often busy on certain days and I have chronic depression (really kills motivation). My posts can also sometimes get too descriptive and occasionally my spelling is... lacking (but I try to proof read).

I like the idea of having 2 groups, however we should write our CS's down to actually know how many of us are in here before planning ahead.

@Yotta: That's good. I'd suggest that you have a loner character, since it sounds like you'd be more comfortable not having to worry about holding other players up. I'll let you choose whether you'd like to start around LA International or Downtown LA, since we can only divide the potential players here into 2 groups of 4.

I should clarify that when I mention grouping players into those two locations, I don't mean that one would necessarily have to group up with 4 other characters in-character, but that I wouldn't want a single starting location to get crowded with players.

I'd prefer LA International, but I'd be willing to have my character start off in Downtown LA.

The CS thread is up.

Also, now that Vertical has expressed interest in preferring LA International, I'll start up a list too.

I've made the CS a bit more simple. Hopefully that should relieve you all of that monolithic old CS template.
