Guys... Guys...

Yesterday I've caught my first Shiny ever :D! Well, not counting the ones everyone gets, like the Red Gyarados. Also, it's just a Pikachu, not exactly the least common/most powerful Poke in the world. But still, Shiny! :D

o.o Awesome, guys!!

My first shiny was a Persian that I found in Firered version. ^^

Since then I also managed to obtain a shiny Lapras by chance encounter in X. o.o Aaaaand a Fennekin by Masuda breeding. And those are the only three shinies that I obtained myself, I think.

:O Holy balls.

I... think I've gotten some shiny fish via Wonder Trade before. But, I mean, those don't really count.

Also I'm pretty sure I've gotten a couple of legendaries? Meh, I don't remember. Made too many wonder trades in my time.

My first (and only) shiny was a Geodude from Platinum.

Though I remember having gained Pokerus through wonder trade before.
Along with a Thunderous and a Lv.100 Lucario.

Saddest thing to ever happen with a shiny encounter: (this didn't happen to me, by the way, but I saw it happen to my brother).

In Diamond, he was in some cave while traveling with someone (so all the wild Pokemon encounters were double battles). He encountered a shiny machoke. But, in a double battle, you can't throw a Pokeball until there's only one Pokemon left. So my brother knocked out the non-shiny Pokemon in one hit on the first turn. The AI knocked out the shiny. :P

There was much screaming from the both of us.

You need to.

That is not at all the same.

And to think, I was just about to come on here and mention how I just saw a commercial on TV for some fancy liquor store that used comic sans.

Your options are:

-Ruby/Sapphire
-Emerald
-Firered/Leafgreen
-Diamond/Pearl
-Platinum
-Heartgold/SoulSilver
-Black/White
-Black2/White2

I just listed eight Pokemon games that can be played on a DS Lite. Fourteen if you count the twin games all as separate titles. Also that's only counting main series games and not counting spin-offs like Pokemon Dash, Pokemon Ranger, Pokemon Mystery Dungeon, etc...

I don't know who told you that there are no Pokemon games for DS - because, I mean, not only is that wrong but the DS (originals and Lites) can play both DS and GBA games, and there are plenty of Pokemon GBA games, as well - but whoever told you that is a dirty fucking liar and they need to burn in punishment for their sins. Either that or they're a complete noob who thinks that Gen VI is where Pokemon all started. Which is almost just as bad. (Edit: Hell, having a DS Lite probably gives you more options than, say, a DSi, since you can still play the GBA games. It might not be a 3DS but it's not as bad as it could be. You still got options, girl. Pokemon didn't just come around last year.)

Sure, maybe you can't play any of the current Pokemon games that are out now. And maybe you can't play the classics from like Gen I or II, but there are still plenty to choose from. (Edit: Actually Black 2 and White 2 are still fairly recent, having come out in 2012. Have we really reached the point where a mere 2-3 years ago feels ancient to us? For fucks sake, society...)

Out of the games listed, I suggest either Firered/Leafgreen or Heartgold/Soulsilver. Firered/Leafgreen is a remake of Red/Blue/Green which were the original Pokemon games, so it's about as close as you can get to playing the original Pokemon story that started it all. Heartgold/Soulsilver is a remake of the Gen II Gold/Silver, which is also a rather classic story and, overall, I just feel like Heartgold/Soulsilver is a really well-made game. Or you could pick up Ruby/Sapphire since the remakes of those were released recently, so you can at least play the original versions of the games that everyone's talking about. Except, if you want a Gen III storyline, I recommend Emerald. It's a vast improvement over Ruby/Sapphire. Black/White I personally don't hate but the creature design for Gen V gets a lot of criticism, so it might not be a great place to start. I've actually never played Black2/White2 but I hear they're actual proper sequels or something, so you probably shouldn't go to them if you haven't played the original Black/White. Diamond/Pearl I'm just personally not a huge fan of and if you really want to play a DS title as opposed to a GBA one, I recommend Heartgold/Soulsilver. Platinum I hear is a lot better than Diamond/Pearl but I'm not sure I ever actually played that one, either.

Get playing.
Seriously though, who the fuck told you that there are no Pokemon games that you can play on a DS Lite?

Edit: Aaaaugh now I can't even sleep cuz you got me all riled up about this. I assumed you just never had any Nintendo consoles growing up or w/e but man you grab just about any handheld Nintendo console and I could throw several handfuls of games at you. The fact that this misconception has gone uncorrected for so long is seriously bothering me. Like hell I get that you're still young put presumably you knew that Pokemon was a thing 2-3 years ago? Did you still have the DS Lite then? Cuz I'm assuming a console that old wasn't exactly a recent purchase. If it was then it must've been obtained at a used game store, and a used game store would surely have at least some of the above titles stocked. It would also make you aware of the fact that used game stores exist - as the only possible explanation I can think of for you not thinking that you could buy any Pokemon games is if you didn't know that you could buy them used. But if that's the case then you didn't buy the DS used, which means you must've bought it when the DS Lite was a new thing, which means that Pokemon games compatible with it were new and being sold at that time. Which means you must've been aware of them and you knew that they existed so you couldn't have thought that no Pokemon games were compatible with a DS Lite. Also you could've bought and played them then. The only other possible explanation is that you just weren't aware that the Pokemon franchise existed at that time, which is not only extremely implausible but the fact that you said you were a "sad child" made it seem like you knew that Pokemon was a popular thing and you have known it for a while - and you're not just some kid who's only just discovering Pokemon for the first time.

This is driving me mad. Not just "mad" as in "crazy" but also "mad" as in "upset" cuz man I was just about to go to sleep and now I can't stop thinking about this which is making me mildly angry. Get online and explain yourself.

Edit2: Fuuuuuck I guess I'll just go find a politics thread or something and bore myself to sleep. That always seems to work.

Edit3: This is why I shouldn't have started watching Sherlock. I officially hate life. I'm just done. I am a thousand times done.

There's no need to blame yourself for all this, Books. I'm just mad at everything, now.

Edit4: Seriously though please reply.

Edit5: If possible, I want the liar's name and photograph. *clicks pen*

... Wow.

I have never seen Kaga this angry before... o_o
It would scare me if not for the fact that it's basically fan-freaking over pokemon.

Note: Even though these are all quoting Kaga, half of these are meant to add on to pokemon advice for Books.

Kaga said Your options are:

My suggestions would be one of the following:

-Firered/Leafgreen
It's the closest to the original/start of pokemon who can get on a DS Lite. It's a very well designed and put together game, and probably the most friendly to new people also.

-Heart Gold/Soul Silver
It's mechanics are basically smoothest/best polished of all the games.
(Minus Black & White... But that has the pokemon design issue. On top of that the majority of Black/White's pokemon are built for simply heavy damage, you barely get a variety of strategy in it as a result).

Plus it's in Johto, the second region/generation which is also a fair start (It's where I started playing pokemon, I was an original Gold kid).
And has the kicker of letting you explore Kanto too, so it in a sense has twice the content that other games do.

-Emerald
Beaches. This is basically Firered/Leafgreen but with different pokemon, a beach themed region and two criminal organizations.
Also being a joint game you have access to more wild pokemon and legendaries than you would otherwise.
Pick this one if you'd rather be in a beach themed game.

+The newest pokemon games are a recreation of Emerald/Ruby/Saphire. So if you want to relate to most regions, pokemon, gym leaders etc with friends currently playing on a 3DS this may be your best shot.

Kaga said I've actually never played Black2/White2 but I hear they're actual proper sequels or something, so you probably shouldn't go to them if you haven't played the original Black/White.

It is. You'll be fairly lost playing it without playing the originals.
And honestly? The original is far better story wise, Black2/White2 does at least fix the wild pokemon though by throwing in pokemon from more generations.
My main three were Ampharos, Arcanine and Lucario in that game.

Kaga said If possible, I want the liar's name and photograph. *clicks pen*

So do I.
*Grabs a, uh... Max Repel*
(Hopefully this works like Pepper Spray).

For most of the first three episodes I was like "Yeah, this is pretty interesting. Not mind-blowing but worth watching."

And then I made it to the last 15 minutes or so of episode 3 and I spent all of those 15 minutes either screaming at the screen or staring with my jaw hanging open. It got really really good really really quickly.

Unfortunately it might be a little while till I can watch more cuz I have Netflix hard-copy rentals and I wanted to snag the Doctor Who 20th anniversary special while it's briefly available...

Edit: At least now I understand why Henry keeps fangirling over Benedict Cumberbatch's cheekbones because holy jeez how do those even happen.

It took me several episodes before I started to really like shows such as Breaking Bad, Game of Thrones and Doctor Who.
I guess it has to do with the fact that series start off slow to describe the plot, characters, environment etc?

But yea, season 1's ending was pretty awesome. :P
Though it's the polar opposite from Doctor Who in that Sherlock is an insanely short series, only 3 episodes per season and 3 seasons.
So it shouldn't take too long to catch up in it. But then again, each episode is over an hour long.

Hardcover Netflix though?
That's still a thing? O_O
I thought they just went completely digital a long time ago.

Actually, it's really not that different than Classic Who in terms of length. The 1 hour and 30 minute episodes are the same length as a 4-part Classic Who arc, and the 2 hour 15 minute episodes are the same as a 6-part arc. And most of Classic Who's arcs are either 4-parters or 6-parters. So, I'm kind of used to the running time.

In fact, Classic Who seasons weren't that much longer than Sherlock seasons, either, since most of them only had about 4-5 arcs per season. And since I'm pretty sure the original Doctor Who was only on its 4th season ~1967, yeah, Sherlock produces content at only a little bit slower than Doctor Who originally did.

Hardcover Netflix though? That's still a thing? O_OI thought they just went completely digital a long time ago.

=_= No. No they did not. I'm a little bit surprised that they haven't, though, seeing as how most people I talk to aren't aware that it exists.

But I'm assuming it's still thriving since the selection for their hard copy rentals is waaaaay better than what they have available through streaming. In fact, while it's not surprising that their hardcopy selection would at least keep up with recent releases, I was very pleasantly surprised to see that they've recently started filling in the gaps in their Patrick Troughton era Doctor Who episodes. o.o Which shows they're taking waaaay better care of Classic Who in the rentals department than they are with the streaming crowd, since streaming for Classic Who has, like... nothing. Plus, incomplete arcs. Because that won't confuse the hell out of new viewers or anything. (Edit: Also, I've been told that they don't have most of the David Tennant specials for some reason...? Weird. Don't know what that's all about.)

But yeah. So glad that hardcopy rentals is still alive and kicking. And also soooooo glad they're getting more Patrick Troughton. They only had, like, 4 arcs from him before. And I need more TwoxJamie, goddammit! That's one of my favorite ships!

Speaking of my favorite Doctor Who ships: Is your signature supposed to come across as a cannibalization of everyone else's signatures? Cuz I keep seeing images from my signature (and previous ones) popping up in there. I didn't say anything when I thought you snagged only one or two images, but now it seems like you're just grabbing everything you see... :/

Edit: For a moment there, our signatures were exactly the same. @_@

But the Doctors have far more seasons over all. It is put together a far bigger time investment than Sherlock.
I get that Doctor Who has far more of a history to go through, I was just saying that Sherlock isn't exactly that long of a series.

Most shows I've watched have been at least twice the length of Sherlock.
It was a show I found very easy to marathon in simply because of the little amount of time required.

Kaga said -Netflix-

I don't get why they don't put that same effort into the streaming, it's what most people are using. :/

My signature is a mass collection of any gif I come across that I like all put together.
Because, like I said in the PM exchange that ultimately led to me joining this RP:

B... but! I like so many things! How could I possibly stick to just one!? D:

Magic Magnum said
Honestly with me it's just a matter of "I like this sig! And that one! And that one! I can't decide which! But wait... I can use this program and then use ALL of them!? Sign me up!".

But I am also a kind of compulsive gif collector, which means if I notice another rotating sig with gifs I like I start to dissect it for gifs.
And yes you tend to pick a lot of Gif's I like, so there is a fair amount that's going to have originated from you.

I had done the same to Rare though before too, I got 30 or so gifs out of that.

Oh, you mean, Sherlock's finished? I assumed it was still running.

Cuz, you know, if it's still running, then my point still stands that, for its age, it really has about as much time put into it as Doctor Who did when it had only been around for like 4 years.

But if the series is all wrapped up and done with then yeah that's pretty short.

But everyone tells me that Moffat is still working on it and I think I remember hearing someone talking about finally getting a release date for season 4 so like yeah I'm pretty sure it's still running.

Speaking of confusion regarding fandoms and the content that exists for them Books where did you go.

I don't get why they don't put that same effort into the streaming, it's what most people are using. :/

I don't get it, either! I mean you'd think that the hard-copy rentals wouldn't be nearly as profitable, either, since they mean that Netflix has to pay for a whole bunch of physical copies of each DVD they intend to offer (cuz if there aren't that many copies then you have fangirls like me waiting on baited breath for when they can jump in and grab The Five Doctors like some sort of ninja when it's finally available), plus there are shipping costs, and it's pretty clear there just aren't as many people using it... so yeah! I don't get it. But I'm certainly not complaining!

If anything I get to point and laugh at everyone else complaining about a lack of variety*, or their favorite shows/movies "disappearing" when I still have access to them, or buffering or any other sort of Internet problems which is never a concern for me at least not in terms of Netflix.

*Ok I've never actually really ever heard anyone complain about a "lack of variety" on Netflix before. But I have heard people complain that something specific is not on Netflix and then I'm like "nooooo it's on Netflix for me". :P

tl;dr I find their streaming service overrated. Hardcopy master race.

That moment when you realize just how obvious it is that this is the first time in a long time that you've been off your ADD medication for more than 48 hours.

Like seriously how many things did I attempt to do today before I got distracted? I don't even know.

Let this be a lesson to all of you at home: make sure you don't build up a tolerance for your meds. Try to at least take weekends off, so that the meds still work when you need them, and your condition doesn't suddenly feel worse once you finally stop taking them. And if you can't afford to take weekends off for the last couple weeks of school just because final season is just so crazy then, well, you're gonna have an interesting first few days of winter break, at least.

Unless you have, like, depression, cuz I hear you have to take prosaic (am I spelling that right? Because that's what spellcheck suggested) for like two weeks straight before it kicks in at all. In which case... my condolences.

Here's a gif to cheer you up*:

*Maybe. I'm really no expert on depression. I hear it's not that easy. But hey, at least I tried.

Edit: Whoo look at the tail on that thing go. That is a happy puppy. :D

Edit2: Also Gwazi you can take all the other gifs that you want, but if you take that one Vash gif that used to be my sig for like 6 months straight that one time, I just might have an identity crisis or something. Just so you know.
