### Outer Reach A remote island, the location of which has long been redacted from history, this heavily wooded place is often regarded as a simple myth from those few who have heard of it. It is said that the earliest inhabitants were a reclusive sect of monks of an unknown faith. Little is known of why they chose such a secluded place, or even how they came to find it in the first place, but they are thought to have died out hundreds of years ago. It is thought that if Outer Reach ever existed that it is now lost to time, but a select few, those privileged enough to afford the knowledge, know this to be false. Outer Reach is far from lost, and in fact holds one of the best kept secrets in the world. Those who know this are the world's elite, the richest or most politically powerful people in the world. But what secrets does Outer Reach truly hold? --- ### Secrecy Outer Reach is a school. More than that, it is a safe haven for the children of the most influential people in the world. It is a place away from the dangers, political and physical, that such influence brings with it. It is considered one of the safest places on Earth for the world's future leaders. It achieves its legendary security not only through traditional means, but also strict rules of secrecy that ensure no one can track a student to Outer Reach. Tuition is paid in heavily laundered physical assets, and people are only brought to the island by way of private, windowless flights from private airports whose locations vary from year to year. Supplies are shipped by boat through a private company run by a coalition of alumni. The security force lives on the island year round, and are hand chosen and well compensated. Outer Reach's most effective security measure is also perhaps its most subtle. All students and staff operate under fabricated identities, that are for all intents and purposes legitimate. Social security numbers, birth certificates, every legal document someone could possibly require are acquired for the students through semi-official channels so that there is little to no chance of them being detected. The students and staff use these identities even while safely on the island to prevent internal leaks, although it is not uncommon for one's closest friends to know their true identities. This has an added benefit of establishing a relatively equal culture among the students, since no one is quite sure what everyone's background is. Many students use this as an opportunity to reinvent themselves. --- ### The Royal Council Although Outer Reach's main philosophy is one of equality, there exists an exception to this rule. The Royal Council is a group of students hand picked by the headmaster (seemingly at random) to act as a sort of governing body over the students. One would think that a student body made up of those used to getting anything want would resent a system like this, but it is in fact the opposite. The Royal Council is generally accepted as being a bad deal, as they can often be seen working long hours and not returning from the Council Building until the late hours of the night. The Royal Council, also referred to as the Royal Family or the Hearts, has five positions. The Ten of Hearts, The Jack of Hearts, the Queen of Hearts, the King of Hearts, and the Ace of Hearts. Gender plays no role in the assignment of positions, and although only the Council themselves know if there is a hierarchy, it would appear as though all members operate as equals. --- ### The Truth Unbeknownst to the student populace (and apparently the staff), the Royal Family serves a greater purpose than acting as a student government. In a cavern far beneath the old monastery (now renovated and serving as the Council Building) an ancient secret lies. A portal to a hellish dimension filled to the brim with terrible monsters is guarded by the Royal Family. It is held shut by a magical seal that feeds off psychic energy emitted from the students and staff inhabiting the island, and this is the true reason Outer Reach maintains its secret nature. Though powerful, the seal upon the portal is not infallible, and from time to time demons slip their way through. To combat this threat, the Royal Family is granted mystical artifacts, medallions called Cards shaped to look like their corresponding titles. These artifacts are pseudo-sentient magical engines that learn and grow with their users. At first, they serve to conjure a weapon and increase the strength and resilience of their users but with time their powers evolve in different ways depending on the person. As a last resort, one can activate their Card to catalyze a magical transformation, or become "Suited" as its called. This grants one completely new, far more powerful magic but at a severe cost. Not only will the transformation cause serious physical damage once it ends, but it draws magic directly off the magical battery tied to the portal seal. Overuse not only runs the risk of killing the user, but also permanently destroying the seal. For this reason, Council members are strictly forbidden from using this power unless all other options have been exhausted. --- ### Characters Although there are only five position available as a member of the Royal Family, there is no player limit at this time. You are also encouraged to make more than one character if you so desire. Positions in the Royal Family will be dealt by myself early in the RP, and all other characters will be normal students... for the moment. As you will surely note, only one suit of cards is currently being used in this game, and there is a reason for that. Those with non-Council characters will be contacted via PM with options regarding integration into the power spectrum early in the game (but are free to participate in it by discovering things for themselves). The Spades, Diamonds, and Clubs will be distinct groups with varying abilities, but that's all I'll say for now. Character ages can be whatever you like, under 20. Outer Reach teaches students of all ages. I would prefer to keep ages on the higher end of the spectrum, but I know that many people like to run younger characters (especially in anime-inspired games) to fit favorite tropes. Character Sheet: Real Name (Probably rarely used): Austin St. John Assumed Name: Jason Lee Scott Age: 16 Appearance:![enter image description here](http://fc07.deviantart.net/fs70/f/2013/170/5/4/shiina__107_by_superdimentio7-d69rw33.jpg "enter image title here") Personality: Jason is a very sweet and shy boy. e loves to see people happy, doesn't like to fight, and has trouble with confrontation, and is always worried about not being able to live up to his father's legacy. Seems like it would be a problem for someone in his position right? Well, it is. That's why his quite eccentric father came up with an idea so crazy...it just might work; he had his son hypnotized to completely change his personality whenever he put on a pair of glasses. Glasses Jason lacks the kindness of his normal personality, having been described as cold, distant, and uncaring. While this isn't too far off, it's also not quite right; Glasses-Jason simply doesn't allow his emotions to get in the way of his judgment. That being said, he does still have a soft spot for anyone that he's close to, so he's not as detached from his emotions as he would like to be History (real): The American people were suffering from high gas inflation because of the middle west. OPEC charged the U.S insane prices for it's oil. This all ended when one rather eccentric, yet highly charismatic man managed to start up a large company to get at all that oil hidden under the American people's feet. He somehow managed to convince the bureaucrats not to block development. Not only that, but a friend of his named David Yost had managed to find a way to get at the oil in rather fragile ecosystems without causing them any real harm, something that won them the support of the Green Party. This man's name is Arthur St. John, and he is Austin's father Because of his social status, he found it practically impossible to make friends. This led to him having a very lonely childhood. His father decided to fix this issue in his own special way; hypnosis. While this didn't do a thing to solve the problem, it did give young Austin a controllable second personality, which would allow him to function once he inherited the company. At first, Arthur was against sending his son to school at a place as far away as Outer Reach, so young Austin was home-schooled. However something happened that forced his hand. One day at the family's private beach, a terrorist group form of members born in Kuwait attacked, taking Austin hostage. They demanded several billion dollars, and a helicopter in exchange for his safe release. Arthur however, quickly realized that they had no intention of giving his son back, even if he gave into his demands...so he decided to take a third option. What many people didn't know about Arthur, was that he was a Navy SEAL veteran (which was one of things that helped him cut past the red tape to start up his company), which meant that he was far from a defenseless CEO. Because of this, he was able to go Liam Neeson on them, slowly picking them off one by one with his trusty handgun to save his son. While the official investigation didn't turn up anything, he suspected that they had been sent by OPEC as either some sort of revenge for stealing America as a customer, or to harm his company. Either way, he realized it wasn't safe for his son out in the open. Thus he consented to send him to Outer Reach Talents: His love of meat and sweets are apparent by his skill at a grill and an oven. Also, because of his dad, he has plenty of experience with firearms, and has a really good aim for someone his age Other: The glasses he wears don't punctually have lens in them, just normal glass that looks like lens' Three Random Words: It's Morphin Time Would it be safe to assume that we're just ignoring the language barrier?

@Card Captor Nice MMPR references _________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Real Name (Probably rarely used): Dave Strider Assumed Name: David Walker ( yeah I know it's lazy, it's supposed to be) Age: 17 Appearance: ![Appearance](http://fc05.deviantart.net/fs71/f/2011/179/e/b/character____kouki_by_pikangie-d37vtg7.jpg "enter image title here") Personality: While not unfriendly Dave tends to be quiet and doesn't talk much unless he feels he has something important to say. While he is slow to anger, he has the unfortunate tendency to hold grudges to anything that does get him angry. He has a sarcastic sense of humor, but tries not to insult people. He is kind of a slacker and generally puts the least amount of effort necessary in any task given to him. Despite not saying much Dave is kind of a flirt, though he has no interest in a serious relationship. History (real): Dave is the oldest son of a high ranking mobster. He has been sent to Outer Reach in preparation of following in his father's footsteps, after all the school not only requires a fake identity but is also an excellent place to make connections. When he was ten in order to avoid a gang-war, his father and the leader of a rival mob arranged for their eldest children to marry each other after they both graduated. Talents: Due to the environment he grew up in Dave is a decent street fighter and pickpocket. He also has experience with breaking and entering. Other: He dyes his hair, its natural color is black. > Some GMs like to reserve the character section for accepted characters. Better safe then sorry This works just fine. ^_^ Its better to keep the characters thread for accepted characters, since it allows for a less congested area to view the sheets and makes revisions to character sheets a lot easier. > Would it be safe to assume that we're just ignoring the language barrier? For the sake of narrative convenience, everyone is more or less fluent in English. Accents can be handled in any way you like, and if you want to slip in bits of other languages for flavor you are free to do so. Also, due to the nature of the students at Outer Reach, it isn't uncommon for people to know multiple languages beyond their native tongue and English (especially those being groomed as corporate heirs). Card Captor and Duthguy, you are both accepted. Feel free to Copy/Pasta your character sheets into the character thread.

Before I even begin on this character, I'd like to let the GM know a few things about me. I am a 20 year old English Education Major college student. I have to do a lot of school work on top of my friends being well... friends and dragging me places to do things. So I won't always be around. At best, I may be able to get one post out a day. So if things pick up, I may have to bow out or something if it comes to that. Just know that I won't be supremely active. Still, I'll fill out a CS because this looks interesting and up my ally. :) **Real Name (Probably rarely used):** Mary Elizabeth Wright **Assumed Name:** Enola "Zero" Sola (Enola - Alone, backwards) (Sola - She who is alone, Spanish) **Age:** 19 **Appearance:** [Enola "Zero" Sola](http://media-cache-ec0.pinimg.com/736x/b7/01/d7/b701d7117ad07f0bf3f76ac51ffa0ce4.jpg) **Personality:** Zero is a strange individual. She likes to give off this air of... indifference and sophistication, as if she is above it all. In truth, Zero is a very romantic and strong willed individual. She can very easily lose her temper and say things she doesn't mean. She doesn't like to talk about herself much and will get very embarrassed if the topic comes up in conversation. She is not used to boys and will often blush around them with no real reason to. **History (real):** Mary grew up in a loving home with over-protective parents _and_ sisters. In fact, they sheltered her so well that she developed this sort of... 'allergy' towards men. It's not that she doesn't like them, she just isn't used to them (She'll often get into fights with them because of differences of interest or ideas.). Being the youngest in a family full of so many strong willed women, you could say Mary grew up with a rather biased view of men. They're all pigs and all they want out of you is to get in your pants. Her family even made pains to make sure Mary was sent to a private all girls' school. They, after a while, begrudgingly decided to send her to this new school, forcing the poor girl to pretend to be male. Her parents, other than being vastly over protective of their daughters, own a rather widely known and large hotel chain. Each of her sisters has their own hotel somewhere that they manage. And when Mary graduates, she will get her own as well. Provided she even wants one. **Talents:** Besides being a demon with a whip, Zero is rather skilled with a pencil and paper. She loves to draw and will mindlessly draw doodles while in class. She is also very well versed in the art of shower song and dance. **Other:** Mary has 5 older sisters and no brothers, nor are any of her sisters married. **Three Random Words:** Don't stop believin' ~ -cough-

**Real Name:** Lucian Maria-Rose Thorndon **Assumed Name:** Jasper Black **Age:** 16 **Appearance:** ![Jasper Black](https://darkartangel.files.wordpress.com/2015/01/jasper-black.jpg "enter image title here") **Personality:** Jasper is a fighting girl. She grew up fighting, and loves to fight. Quite kind to others, she is almost too soft hearted for her family’s profession. All in all her personalty is a mess, both loving fighting, and the pain that comes with it, but also hating to see others hurt. This led to a not quite separate personality, leaving her with massive mood swings between both sides of her. Going from totally happy and carefree, to moody and super aggro. The best, easiest, and pretty much only way to calm her down, and control her mood swings, is through music. **History (real):** Jasper is the only daughter, and youngest child, of the leader of the biggest criminal empire in the southern hemisphere. Growing up surrounded by boys, she stared to act like one too. She also started training to fight since she was small; one of her older brothers had gone to China to learn from the Shaolin Monks, and he taught her. She also went to other martial arts classes. Having been sent to many schools Jasper has lived under many names and aliases, inventing new background stories, and so she is quite capable at lying. She was sent to Outer Reach in the hope that she could stop having to move schools. Also because with ten brothers, many of them at home, Jasper needed out, and so did her father. **Talents:** Fighting, most styles. Art. Music. Singing. Telling Lies. Close combat fighting. Acrobatics. Wielding knives. **Other:** “Yeah, It’s a boy’s name, deal with it!”, Jasper hates Mobile phones, and loves motorbikes. **Three Random Words:** Time to Fight! **Footnote:** _The Shaolin Monks_: either look them up (You-tube’s good), or think The Matrix; The Shaolin Monks are the guys who taught Keanu Reeves (Neo) how to fight like that. Of course Jasper can’t fight quite that well. Duh.
