Well you can kill him. I just then can't promise that the builders of the tavern didn't cut any corners that would cause a structural failure to make the roof cave in and kill everyone if that happened.

Okay, so the guard isn't necessarily dead. My bloodlust has been satiated by the nose/face blood showers.

The pop might have been a collapsing orbital floor or it might have been a jaw. Either way he should be able to lead us to the pot of gold or the last unicorn or whatever we need.
