A 1x1 between @HaleyTheRandom and @WilsonTurner.
My (Willy's) character and your (Hailey's) character
They not so nice
Government gets pissy, can't accuse them of treason, but they know too much
Sticks them on an experimental project to be the 'honored volunteers' of it
Gets shot off to a Goldilocks planet in another system, with a dozen other pods containing supplies
Spends the trip in cryosleep
Wake up in orbit of really-fudging-far-away planet to find that a procedure while they were asleep implanted quantum communication devices that allow for telepathy- anywhere, no matter the distance, interference, whatever, because quantum physics (I can explain it if you want me to, it's amazing)
Go down into planet atmosphere
Find a similar atmosphere, little lighter gravity, and an entire ecosystem
And now they have to survive long enough to piece together the larger quantum communications device, which has critical parts stored in every single pod- naturally. They could do without three of these critical pieces, so they really only need to find nine of the twelve pods.
When they communicate their findings back to Earth, mission success, and they get more supplies and shtuff, and maybe later, cryosleep pods so that, when an actual crew shows up in an actual ship, a colony can be started.
