Premise
The universe is a vast and interesting place. Wholly unknown, but swelling with mysteries that confound mere mortal minds.
For mortals, a wondrous phenomenon; for gods, child's play.
Years have found the gods and goddesses of earth in power, in turmoil, in trifle and war. Beings with near infinite power, the world meant only a sandbox to toil in. Like all things, these beings have popped in and out of existence through the times and each learn and grow and change. For millenia, this growth has come for the better of humanity, but in years of the birth of Christianity and Judaism, strife had brought the gods into war. And the world suffered for it.
In this Ragnarok, as the Norse Pantheon dubbed it, the world's gods and goddesses came to an agreement: a renouncing of their immutable powers and a melding into the world. The humans caught in the strife and turmoil had their minds wiped clean, left to wonder if the gods of ancient times were ever truly real. Some, like the Mayans and Aztecs faded with the death of their people, but few, like the Hindu and Shinto have still reigned in their domains, weak and hardly world breaking, but still protectors of their lands.
However, in the coming years, a force has loomed over mankind and the world has once again called for the gods that have left their crowns and their thrones to protect their home once again.
A Brief Overview
Pretty much, tl;dr: It's a buncha gods and we make mythology our bitch while killin' baddies? Not really. It's a weird slice-of-life adventure.
In much more detail, it's an Rp that focuses on the struggles and adjustments of the gods themselves, how they've fared in a life where they're, more or less, not needed. And then growing to find out that they're needed once more. How they react to this. Their own opinions on this looming chaos. And what this means for the world and for them.
It's less a super action oriented RP and more character driven. We're seeing how these beings have adjusted to themselves and others of the world. A lot of them were enemies with each other and some were allies, so there's obviously going to be a lot of strife. But, that's not the main overarching plot of the story. There's something big out there and we need to defeat it. That's pretty much it. It's how we execute it that matters.
Regarding powers and gods, however, I'll do in pretty rigid detail. These things are going to be hard stuck rules and it'll be hard to convince me to change it other wise.
First and foremost, obviously the only pantheons that are off limits are probably those surrounding Judaism. This isn't an Angels and Demons RP and I'd rather not have to see someone running around as Jesus. However, I want to make it clear that, whilst I'm allowing Hindu Gods and Goddesses, and Shinto Gods and Goddesses, as well as Chinese, that you all MUST treat them with the utmost respect. These particularly pantheons are tricky, as they are ones that people still believe and worship to this day, and I will not accept any characters that blatantly disrespect their culture and religion.
Anyway, there's a rather stark difference between these gods and goddesses and the mythology played out. As they are real, a lot of their stories have a merit of truth, but they aren't 100% accurate. Humans only have a small recollection of who these beings were and thus their historical text has been altered because of it. The biggest thing, I think, are the birth of gods and goddesses: these beings weren't birthed naturally, instead they were popped into existence based on necessity. This takes care of the entire incest thing. These beings aren't and won't ever be conventional siblings (except for twins like Artemis and Apollo). They aren't related to each other, but they may still treat each other as family.
I'd really appreciate it if people look deeply into what their deity embodies before creating a character. I'm still determining whether I want to be extremely strict on applications, or not. But, if I see a lot of things like Aphrodite and Artemis being Heterosexual Mary Sues, I'm gonna strangle someone.
As a note of caution: I don't plan to strictly stick to mythology. I think I covered that, but I'll cover it again. You have creative freedom over who these gods are, within logical range. Or enough logic to make it seem reasonable. Preferably, though, no playing gods as purely evil. There's a limit on what I'll allow in that district, but this isn't a sandbox RP, so you aren't really allowed to go off and kill a bunch of people because you're a god and you can.
Who's Your God?
Don't forget to @mention me, just in case I don't get your CS. I do usually backtrack and read every single post in a thread to make sure I'm caught up, but sometimes I miss things. So, just for good measure!
Also, I know it says in the sheet, but definitely only real images when describing your character. I'm lax in the Godly Appearance section, so you're free to go balls to the walls when searching for something in that district. But, yeah, I'm the type of individual who likes a uniform general look for a setting and I can't deal with anime and realistic art or photos being meshed in together. It ruins the immersion for me.
The relationship sheet is OPTIONAL. There's no need or reason for you to do it other than for you and others to get a feel on your character(s) and how they interact with others.
(Don't forget to remove the spaces from the [ hr] codes!)
Credit for the CS goes to @Undine, @McHaggis, and @Liriia. You'll want to thank those three for working with code that I'm still trying to remember how to use. It's been awhile, so I kinda forgot how to make everything fancy. ;3;
The Relation Sheet is Undine's (or as you all will soon learn, Miso!)
Character Limit: You're allowed 4 characters, just make sure you can handle them!
Rules and Expectations
- Follow the Guild's rules, first and foremost.
- I expect, in terms of length, at least a paragraph. More is welcome. Try not to go overboard on reiteration and fluff, though.
- Saying that, I also expect a moderate understand of basic grammar and spelling. I'm not a stickler, so I won't go crazy over typos, but I'll be sure to pester people who consistently show an intense lack of grammatical and spelling skills. If I can read and understand what you're saying, we're good.
- I won't have OOC drama in my thread. This is something I'm going to be big on. If I find anyone being salt mountains and assholes to each other, I'm going to take immediate action.
- Give me your favorite Mythological story (I'll accept things like the Aeneid or the Iliad, obviously, if you were wondering). If you don't have one, then your favorite book!
- I just want to make sure that everyone listens to what I have to say when I say it. GM isn't God, but when a situation calls for it, my word will rank above any those in the thread. The most important thing to get out of this, though, is that I'm always, always willing to compromise
- Let me know if you're every going to be absent for an allotted amount of time. Posts should be made once a week. I'll give you a two week grace period, however, to notify me of your absence. Anything later than that and I'll have to escort you from the premises.
- Don't make anything weird or inappropriate. I know how some of the mythologies are, especially when it comes to odd sexual acts and kinks. Don't go Uke Mochi (I think wikipedia censored how she produced the food for Tsukuyomi) levels of gross. As a general rule PG-13 bro.
- There's going to be some action in this, so obviously no godmodding, metagaming, the whole shebang.
- Otherwise, have fun!!!
Reservations
For anyone who would like to make reservations, just say so and I'll add 'em to the list. You'll have up to 3 days to complete it. Notify me if you need any longer and I'll bump you up another three days. Wanna keep the reservation? Haven't been able to finish it. Just communicate and I'll be sure to give you as much leeway as you need!
