Hmmm
Theoretically, 'laser' swords would be possible. Though they wouldn't be laser- they'd be energy. Could still be red or whatever color you want, but it'd just energy, maybe plasma, contained in an energy field. Look up a Halo energy sword.

Cybertelepathy?
Implants. Either traditional radio-wave or similar transmitters/receivers in microchip form, designed to integrate with the human body, and then implanted in people. Alternatively, one could use quantum mechanics to create very real (though they're definitely out of our current technological level) microchips that instantly transmits and receives from one other microchip- a 'paired' set, which would be impossible to block and would be instant regardless of distant. Probably really super expensive too, because quantum mechanics are tough.

Theoretically, anything very not-science could be explained via quantum mechanics. For example, you're describing a roleplay in a universe where the Many Worlds Theory is real; the Many Worlds Theory says that anything that could be does exist in at least one parallel universe. For example, there are universes where I am very, very successful, where I am a girl, where I am a drug addict that rides ponies to school, where I am a pony, where I have long hair, where I don't have long hair, where I don't have any hair at all, where I'm the last person in the cosmos, where I'm the first person in the cosmos, where I'm writing my fourth book, where I'm writing hate mail, where I'm writing romance poems, where I'm eating a dog, where I'm eating a piece of paper, and so on.

But yeah, this sounds really cool.

I mean weaponized holograms based off femtosecond lasers, but I understand.

<Snipped quote by WilsonTurner>
Maybe something less invasive would spread faster, like wearable neural interfaces translating thought into audiovisuals. As for quantum entangled cybertelepathy, I'd say we could do without any instant FTL effects. Lest we worry about the likes of predatory dyson swarms, and that'll quickly escalate into star-busting.

<Snipped quote by WilsonTurner>
While quantum mechanics provide decent options, I'd like to keep their scope limited. For example, graviton engines are nullified in steep gravity wells, wormholes are varied and volatile, and alternate yous are more likely to be in virtualities than realities.

Glad to have your interest.

1. Femtosecond lasers
o.0
Damn, never heard of those. I'm gonna go look into that

2. Wearable neural interfaces and dyson swarms
Personally, I'd get an implant if I could. Other people might feel differently- but quantum physics is something studied today, and we know of quantum entanglement today, so it's certainly possible that it could exist when we have weaponized femtosecond laser weapons. Governments and such would definitely use quantum entangled implants in agents- both to activate some kind of self-destruct in the case of sensitive people being taken by the wrong person, or for communication between agents that can't be detected, and simply for ship-to-ship communication in the vastness of space. Conversations would be very slow when calling a moon base, a Mars base, a Ceres base, or a starship between those- communication via quantum entanglement would be sought after. And it's not really FTL- it just is. In order to be FTL, it'd have to be able to travel, and we can't tell how entangled pairs work, so we don't know if there IS something that travels between them.

I also don't see where dyson swarms come into the equation. Sun-collectors from quantum entanglement? Maybe for communicating and controlling a dyson swarm/sphere, but... I dunno?

3. Engines and the like and their limitations
Electromagnetic drives are a more modern engine that uses just energy?
Ionic propulsion?
At that point, gravity manipulation might be possible- and so could nullifying the effects of a planet or such, should a ship have the powerhouse to do so, and if designed for it.

But yeah, any powerful gravity well could bring a ship down. It just depends on the engine, aerodynamic shape, weight, etc. Some ships may be rather agile and fast in space, but gravity could easily suck them in, depending on design.

As a person who enjoys science fiction, I can guarantee I can come up with a great deal of stuff that'd probably break the game .____.

I have learned that if you want to make a world where certain things are set strictly in stone- certain technologies can't exist and that sort of thing- people won't enjoy it as much. At least, that's what I've learned from science fiction nation roleplaying. If you just say- have at it! There'll be tons of stuff. If you say that this and that and those can't exist because they don't belong in this universe- besides some obvious things, like devices that create whatever you want- then people'll start losing interest.

Just a warning from experience.
also me being a nerd

Wow.
I am such a nerd.

I'm gonna go see how a graviton engine works, and what's up with femtosecond lasers.

1. Quantum communication and that stuff
What I mean with microchips using quantum mechanics to communicate is simple.

Quantum entanglement is a pair of particles- two particles- that are inexplicably connected. When Particle 1, P1, is in State A, SA, then Particle 2, P2, will be in State B, SB, which is an opposite state than SA. So if something causes P1-SA to become P1-SB, then P2-SB will instantly- regardless of distance or interference- become P2-SA. By using two sets of AT LEAST 3 or 4 dozen entangled pairs, you could make a microchip- likely a very, very complex one- that uses one group of paired particles to transmit to the other chip, and the other group that the opposite chip to transmit. This way, they can send and receive either simpler messages or very much larger packets of data. It's nothing too terribly complex. If anything, all the other types would be more complex, because all this is is controlling, recording, and changing the states of particles- a few simple little commands that translates into much more important things, like a letter.

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Quantum_entangle..

2. Star brains & wormholes
I don't even know what this is.
It's safe to say that quantum communication would be very difficult to achieve on a great big scale, especially because it'd be very delicate and might not hold up well. Perhaps we could place a minor restriction- that it's good for handling a decent flow of information, but the larger it gets, the more and more expensive it gets. As in, the more quantum entangled pairs via literal numbers, the more expensive it gets by exponential numbers. 1 entangled pair = 1 unit of large currency. 10 entangled pairs = 100 units of large currency. That sort of thing.

And no, I wasn't talking about wormholes or any of that. Hells, that'd be some extremely difficult research to be done, and then to stabilize it and use it?

3. Smashing physics.

Tbh, physics have never been solid. When it comes to nuclear and quantum mechanics, regular physics go out the window. Technically, the Electromagnetic drive- the EM Drive- shouldn't work, because it breaks a special law of particle physics, but it works anyways!

4. Warp graviton engine
o.0
Why not EM Drive on steroids?
Or ion drives
Or plasma
or antimatter?
