"That still does not do either of them any favours, Mithrandir." Elrond raised his eyebrows critically as he carefully lifted Serena off the ground. "Come, I will take her inside where she can rest, and I am sure the rest of you must be hungry by now."

Bane just looked at the ground but Bilbo patted his shoulder and said "come, master Bane, the only thing we can do now is rest and get our strength back while Serena does the same" bane nodded and stood up, his eyes watching Serena leave in the care of the Elf. He looked at Thorin and said "I'm sorry for attacking you...my temper is not as controlled as I wish it to be..."

Thorin gave a slight nod in response.
"Do not worry, I will not dwell on it and you shouldn't either."
"S-So, these things," Kili began bravely as he fell into step beside Bane. "where did they come from?" he hoped he wouldn't offend the man by asking but he was young and his curiosity had gotten the better of him.

Bane looked at him and said "lady Serena believes they were created in Mordor. They have been running around for months growing their pack. They have doubled in size in three weeks" Bilbo blinked and asked "how are they growing in numbers?" Bane sighed and siad "it's why we are trying to warn people...it's not the creatures themselves that are the threat...it's what they carry within them that is the risk...when the Alpha is in battle and he bites any kind of creature, human, elf, dwarf or even hobbit...they will be infected or cursed and....they will turn into one of those things..with no cure to change them back...it's a fate worse then death"

Kili shuddered uncomfortably. "And it's only the Alpha that can change someone? How do you know which one is the Alpha?" the young dwarf was clearly very interested to find out more about the creatures, and stuck close to Bane as Elrond directed them to the balcony where tables and chairs were laid out for them to sit at for a meal.

Bane said as they walked "He is the biggest and his coloring is different then the others...the ones we fought today most likely used to be humans...you can tell by the colorings. When you see the brown mixed with the tan, they are human. If they have black mixed with reds and are smaller in build but are thicker built, they used to be dwarves. Light coloring with white and blond used to be elves. We haven't seen hobbits yet or anything else...hopefully we won't see that" He sat down, taking his jacket off first and putting it over the chair. "So far we have only counted three different Alphas...they were made in Mordor and my guess they used to be Orcs or something like that." Bilbo shuttered at the thought of these creatures running thru the Shire.

Gandalf sat by Elrond and asked "Have you heard of any such thing before?"

Elrond looked rather troubled as he took in Bane's words, and the elf lord shook his head as he too took a seat, knitting his hands together on the table as he looked at Bane worriedly. "No, I have not. This concerns me greatly, to hear of such a creature running rampant through the lands."

Gandalf said "It can't be just by chance they show up right now..." Bane shook his head and said "My lady has been tracking them even before I joined her in the search. She is very worried that we can't get the word out and we are heeded, more villages will be wiped out and lives will be lost to this curse..." He sighed and said "Its why she has been pushing herself so hard...she couldn't bare to watch what happened to my home happen to anyone else..."

"You both just understand however, that without seeing such a creature with one's own eyes, it is an awfully far-fetched tale to believe." Elrond reminded the man severely.

"In some ways it's still quite hard to believe even though we have seen them." Kilimanjaro put in gently, though he felt for Bane and Serena.

Bane nodded and said "And that's the problem we keep running into...she brings pieces of the creatures to prove but no one is willing to believe such evil is running around out there...and trust me, they are very real...if it hadn't been for Serena, you might have seen one a few minutes ago..." Bane pulled his collar down and showed them all a huge scar on his shoulder up his neck, like something had tried to tear him apart with a strong jaw. Bilbo asked "Bane...is that from..." Bane nodded and said "The first Alpha...ya, he got me. If it hadn't been for Lady Serena showing up when she did, I would be one of those creatures running around out there"

"Hm." Elrond shook his head slightly to himself. "This is not something that we can simply send the two of you from village to village to warn people of, clearly. We may have to consider...higher powers."

Kili looked between Gandalf, Bane, Bilbo and Elrond then, confusion in his features. "...What does he mean?"

Gandalf nodded and said "I agree...we may have much to talk about with the others...I fear this is only the beginning of the troubles that may be coming..." Bane moved forward and said "We can handle this, Lord Elrond. If you just push us to the side, Serena will not take it lightly. She will keep hunting them...no matter what anyone tells her to do..." Gandalf smiled and said "Fear not, lad...no one would just send you away...you both are tied to this and have the most knowledge of these creatures..." Bilbo sighed and said "Maybe we should wait to talk more about this until Lady Serena is awake...she has just as much say in this as anyone"

Elrond fixed Bane with a stern look as the elf sat slightly forward in his seat. "I made no mention of simply brushing you to the side, or of excluding your companion, did I master Bane?" when he spoke his voice was as stern as his facial expression. "I simply expressed the concern that myself and Mithrandir alone are not well equipped to find the solution ourselves and that we will have to call on those who are older, and have better knowledge of such evils."

Thorin had been lost in his own thoughts, and getting rather quite annoyed that they were being kept for such a long time over something that was not really a concern of his or any of his companions-especially since they did not know how much time they would have before others would try to retake the mountain too. Though he was jerked out of his thoughts as Bane spoke directly to him, and looked up.
"...Yes, I believe it is." he answered slowly.

Elrond held his hand out curiously. "If you would allow me to look at it, I may be able to tell you more about it." the elf offered. Eyeing him distastefully for a few moments, Thorin finally handed the blade over and Elrond smiled knowingly, giving a slight nod. "Ah yes, this is Orcrist, the goblin bane. Forged in Gondolin, for the Goblin Wars of the First Age."

Gandalf nodded and then he pulled the sword he had found out and held it out. "They were found in a cave with the other spoils of some trolls..." Bilbo looked at his blade, wondering if he should let it been looked at. Bane looked over and said "was that there as well?" Bilbo nodded.

"This is Glamdring." Elrond explained as he handed Orcrist back to Thorin and took Gandalf's blade to examine it. "Orcrist's brother blade, the Foe Hammer. This was the sword of the great Elf king Turgon, lord of the High Elves of the First Age."

"I wouldn't bother with that laddie." Balin leaned over to mumble to Bilbo. The blade was so small he wasn't sure it would have ever been in a battle worthy of note. "Swords are named for the great deeds they do in war," he explained to the hobbit.

Bilbo nodded but Bane said "you never know, Bilbo. I know warriors who made short blades famous. Most of the Warriors I trained with liked shorter blades for combat" Bilbo thought about it, trying to decide. Gandalf was watching him, a small smile on his lips.

"Now if you'll forgive me for making such a detour, master Bane." Elrond's gaze flicked briefly to the man before they returned to look at Gandalf quizically. "But I must ask, what exactly it is that your company were doing on the Great East Road in the first place in order to be ambushed?"

"We are travelling to the Iron Hills." Thorin lied. "To visit our kin there." remembering that Gandalf had said the elf might be able to read the map, he reluctantly pulled it out of his pocket. Though he deliberately made no mention of the key. "I have come upon this map, there is something written in ancient dwarvish that we cannot read and we would like to know what it means."

Elrond took the map and examined it, raising an eyebrow. "And why do you wish to know it's meaning?"

Gandalf said quickly "it's purely academic to be honest, you never know what could written of the past." He gave Thorin a knowing look, his promise to keep their mission a secret. "You can read old dwarfish, correct?"
