"Sounds like them." the dwarf prince muttered bitterly. "They have no concern for other people, only their own." he shook his head as he rememebered how Thranduil had left the dwarves of Erebor in much the same way when the dragon had come to take over the Mountain.

"You're most welcome." Bofur nodded, smiling gently as he placed a hand on her shoulder to support her. "Careful." he warned. "You might re-open something again."

Bane sighed and said "Serena prefers her human side to her elf side...but she makes do" he took a bite of food then said "Thorin I have been meaning to ask you something...why wait until now to go back to the Lonely Moutain after all these years?"

Serena nodded and said "your right, my body isn't very happy with me right now...it's getting pay back for me over doing it.."

"I had to lead my people to safety first." Thorin began slowly as he considered how to explain it to Bane. "We tried to settle in Moria, but when we got there we found that Orcs, led by Azog, had already taken over that ancient kingdom that was once ours. My grandfather was slain there by the defiler, and my father went missing in the same battle. The others all said he was dead, but when the battle ended I searched through every last body, he was not among the dead. I went looking for him, tried to find him. Last I had heard he was wandering the Wilds near Dunland, I stopped off at Bree to rest for the night and that's where I came upon Gandalf, he urged me to retake our homeland, and told me he could help us do it."

"I'm sure you'll be right as rain in no time." Bofur reassured her, settling himself down next to the mage to keep her company.

Bane blinked and looked at Gandalf. "That was...lucky..." Gandalf just smiled and bane looked back at Thorin. "So what is the plan when we get there? There is a big dragon there...we just going to ask him to leave and wish him a nice day?"

Serena nodded and slowly ate her food, trying not to push herself too far this time while she looked at Bofur. "Tell me...why are you doing this? This quest..."

"We do not know for certain that there is a dragon waiting." Thorin pointed out as he sat back slightly against a bale of hay, a slight glint in his eyes as he thought about it. "But, that is precisely why we require Master Baggins' services as a burglar. When we find the hidden door and open it, the hobbit will go in first and retrieve the Arkenstone, then I can call the seven dwarf armies together again and we can vanquish the dragon for good, together, if he is still there."

"Well, to get back Thorin's birthright of course." Bofur nodded as if it were already the most obvious thing in the world. "They are the last of Durin's folk, they deserve to have it back."

Bilbo blinked and muttered "I forgot about that part..." Bane looked at the dwarf, his mouth open slightly. "Wait...your sending Bilbo in there...alone...into old mines that more the likely...have a dragon waiting there"

Serena nodded and said "I see...so everyone here is helping Thorin...nothing else to be gained from it all?"

"The risks were explained to him very clearly when he signed the contract." Thorin raised an eyebrow skeptically at the man. "He agreed to all of the terms. And at any rate, Gandalf put him up to it."

"Well, most of them are relatives of his," Bofur shrugged again, "aside from myself, and my cousins Bifur and Bombur. But if we could reclaim Erebor we could re-establish that kingdom again, and we would all have a real home back. We don't even have Moria anymore, so there's nowhere else for us to go to."

Bane looked at Gandalf who just smiled and Bane said "I heard wizards were odd folks..." Bilbo sat down and said "it will be alright...I think"

Serena nodded and said "I see, I understand that feeling..." She looked down at her empty bowl and said "just a place to call home once more...it's a noble thing"

"For all we know the dragon's been dead for sixty years." Thorin pointed out with a raised eyebrow. "Nobody has seen the beast for that long, at any rate."

"Yes, I suppose it is." Bofur nodded in agreement, standing up to put his empty bowl aside. "Well, I shall leave you to rest now Lady Serena." he excused himself politely, "And I imagine Thorin would want us all to do the same."

Bane nodded and said "still...I'm glad we will be there...Serena's gift of sight will be helpful I think"

Serena smiled and nodded. "Thank you for staying with me...rest well, Master Bofur"

When everyone was turning in, it seemed some of the company were having a hard time falling asleep. Bane looked over Serena and she smiled. She started humming softly then she started singing softly, the sound of her voice drowning all other noises out. She sang a lullaby that some might know, Bane and Gandalf knowing it well. She sang all the verses, hopefully helping the company fall into a peaceful sleep. When she finished she looked around and saw most everyone has dosed off. She smiled again and said softly "sleep well, my friends...may the heavens watch over you..." She closed her eyes and soon was fast asleep as well, a smile on her face.

*The next morning*

The dwarves had all awoken the next morning to find the barn they had taken shelter in filled with various sorts of animals, goats, horses, and even bumblebees, which gave some of them quite the fright to find such a gigantic bee sitting on their noses. However, they seemed friendly enough and simply just buzzed away as the dwarves sat up and began to get themselves together.

Outside, there came the sound of someone chopping wood. It would seem that their host, whoever he was, had returned during the night as well. Brushing his clothes down, Thorin turned to look at Gandalf.
"Alright Gandalf, would you care to explain a little more about who this person is? How do we know he will offer us help?"

Gandalf smiled and said "that is our shifter over there...and I'm sure he would help us...in his own way. He is an odd fellow" bane got up, looking around to see Serena still fast asleep. He smiled and pulled her blanket up higher on her. "Good to finally see you peaceful..."

"In his own way?" Thorin raised an eyebrow questioningly as he repeated the wizard's words, somewhat doubtful still.
"Well, it's not natural, none of it!" protested Dori, clearly still rather agitated at the thought that the supposed man outside had been the very same giant bear that had nearly killed them all the evening before. "I say we leg it and slip out the back way!"

Gandalf turned to look at them all and said "That would be rude would it not? We should at least thank him for letting us stay the night here..." Bane walked over and said "I don't think we are running anywhere. Serena is still out of it. I think she's slipped into one of her healing trances"

"No, we're not running anywhere." Thorin agreed firmly. "We'll...go out and thank him, I suppose." the dwarf prince felt a little nervous at the thought himself. "Someone else should go out first." he suggested. "See what kind of mood the fellow is in, and since it was your idea to bring us here Gandalf I think that the person should be you." Thorin looked at the wizard expectantly.

Gandalf sighed and went to the door. "Alright I'll go first..." Bane sighed and got up saying "I'll back him up just in case...Bilbo? Mind keeping an eye on Serena for me?" Bilbo nodded as they pair walked outside. Gandalf waved at the man chopping wood. "Greetings my friend..."

Beorn at first didn't appear to have heard the wizard speak at all, as he swung his axe in a wide circle over his head and cleaved the piece of firewood in half, though after he had done that he set it down and turned to look at them, leaning on the shaft. "Who are you? And what do you want?" his voice was deep and almost gravelly, as if it were more of a growl than anything else, and his eyes stared intently at them from beneath bushy eyebrows.

Bofur took up a position at the window to keep watch over the proceedings, and tell the others if he thought it looked like Gandalf wanted them to go outside too.
"Perhaps we shouldn't all rush out at once?" Kili suggested carefully. "It might startle him and I'd hate for him to turn back into that ghastly bear again!"

"I suppose you are welcome." Beorn nodded slowly. "But that does not answer my other question as to why you are here." the skinchanger shifted his weight again, leaning more on the axe as he studied the two of them up and down as if sizing them up. "I do not believe I have heard of either of you, or seen you in these parts before."

Gandalf smiled again and said "we are traveling east to the lonely mountain" bane said "I am traveling with The Mage of the Shade hunting down creatures of mordor"

Bilbo was over by Serena, his hand in front of her nose. "Thorin...she's barely breathing..."
