@Aisling It's not a regular lesson, but some schools offer it. Otherwise, you courses on it are being offered by different institutions. If those courses are too expensive, you can go to sports clubs and let your kids take part in martial arts, such as kung fu or karate. That often comes cheaper on the long run, and if you've got a good teacher (with 'good', I mean one who doesn't just focus on martial arts competitions but also makes self-defense a part of the training), martial arts can come in really handy. In addition to the self-defense lessons I had some years ago, I've had some karate lessons last year, and my teacher was really good.

@Aisling It's okay... if I had pneumonia and a 104°F fever, I'd stay home. If I my metal implants broke, I'd live with the pain. If I had a heart attack, I'd die. Everything's better than supporting such a system.

"I had an URI once a few years back. My daughter was dropped off to take me home. My husband went to the store to get some soda for me. I vomited 3 times during the 15 minute drive. I had diarrhea and could not keep anything down. I became delirious yet I trusted my husband who drove me to the place where I spent the night. I didn't remember Christmas or New Year's. He was told that if he hadn't taken me, I might have been not have made it. I prefer to go and be able to live. Insurance covered it, fortunatly.

@Aisling There's one thing that westerners will never understand: That death is inevidable. We can't avoid it. We can't save lives. We can only prolong them. That's not a choice. But what is a choice is whether we get upset about it. Whether we fear death. Whether we feel that deep sadness when someone we love dies. Or whether we accept it.

Death is the end or the beginning depending on a person's view, but what about the joys of life? As I watch my grandson grow and play, it makes me happy. True I am exhausted at the end of the day but if there is another world beyond this or not, I want to live to see him grow up. To see beautiful sunrises, sunsets, enjoy RPing and more.

@Aisling I once heard a Zen master say, "The greatest freedom one can have is equanimity." To me, that's true. No true happiness without equanimity. Equanimity includes accepting that nothing will ever stay the same, and that includes accepting death... all these secular things - RPing, sunrises, watching a child grow up - are nice to me, but it's not what I call true happiness.

I will enjoy what I like and be happy with what I have. I believe that there is another world beyond this.

@Aisling Yeah, we are. My mother and me live in a house with four flats in use, and a fifth one is being built. It was a scaffolding that caught fire. Actually, we've got seven people living in the house, but only my neighbour and me (and the landlady, who lives at the same plot of land as we do, but in her own house) were there.
