"Like I said, all I can do is teach you the basics. There aren't many people who can use magic to begin with, but from what I've been told, everyone uses it differently," Lark explained briefly. He then rose his hands and smiled.

"Still, if you want a better chance at getting anywhere, you should know how magic works!" Lark then spun in place and pointed to Pij. "Magic is split into two categories, Arcane and Ki. The average living creature is composed of Ki, the soul energy, and arcane energy, the matter and natural energy that keeps us alive. Without Ki, we would not be unique from one another, and without arcane energy, our matter couldn't even exist!" Lark explained. "The basic principal is as follows, bud. Arcane energy is linked to our brains, and Ki is linked to all of us! Ki affects our physical abilities, and Arcane energy affects our magical abilities. It's pretty complicated, so let me show you-" Lark paused and rose a hand, summoning a very ornate green long sword between his fingers. It contrasted his animal pelts vividly, like it was meant for royalty.

"This is the Soul Breaker, a weapon composed of both my Ki and arcane energy. Fusing the two energies is a rare ability, so I'm not even going to try and explain it, but I need this thing out to show you the difference between the two energies!" Lark walked outside with his blade, opening the door and standing in the clearing. "Come on out, Jenso-man!"

"Wow! Cool!!" Jenso shouted as the blade appeared in Lark's hands. He dashed after his teacher immediately, eager to learn more. Everything that Lark explained was very interesting to him.

Lark laughed heartily and nodded his head. "Yea, she's a beaut. Now, watch closely," Lark said, lowering his sword to the ground. In a slow motion, he rose it up and arced it around his entire body, leaving a trail of water behind it that floated in air for a moment, and then rained down. "Arcane energy is the base of all matter and, well, energy! Fire, water, earth, air, you can potentially do anything with it if your body's capable. Most magical people have a certain affinity though, based on their arcane energy. I don't, because I'm pretty amazing," Lark boasted. After that, his blade began to glow a bright yellow, making the air around him and Jenso ever so slightly warmer.

"This is Ki! This stuff can vary in strength, and you cannot train it at all. It makes people a shit ton stronger if they harness it though, and in some very rare situations, you can expell your aura in energy type techniques that are devastatingly powerful!" Lark swung his sword to the right and unleashed a wave of white energy that sliced into the trees and cleared a path forward. "Like that. Sometimes Ki is so powerful, that it shines though even if you don't harness it, and grants people amazing abilities, like increased regeneration, pain reduction, strength enhancement, and insane agility! Stuff's pretty nifty, but unless you're like me, it's pretty rare to find somebody with a strong residual Ki flow."

Jenso stared in awe as Lark displayed Arcane and Ki. "That's amazing!" He shouted. "Oh man...I really want to learn it now!" He shouted. He rose his hand into the air but nothing happened. "Uh...well, I guess I should start with arcane then, huh? Since Ki can't be trained.."

Lark shrugged, desummoning his sword, "I can't teach you how to use magic, kid. I can only tell you where it comes from. Heck, who even knows if you've got an aura at all? People who can use magic are rare as hell!" Lark paused, and shrugged again. "You won't be able to harness any magical abilities if you just try really hard. Sometimes they're gained from more than inherent talent, like from a deity's spirit, or a magical artifact... Ki may not be trainable, but if your Ki is strong enough, sometimes it will leak through regardless of whether or not you're conscious of it."

"Well, I've always been pretty strong but.." Jenso muttered, lifting up a large boulder with both hands with ease. He threw it at a nearby tree. As it crashed into it, a large crack was left within the trunk. He had never questioned his strength before, but perhaps Ki did have something to do with it.

Lark's mouth hung open for a moment as he lifted the relatively large boulder without any problems. "The hell have you been eating, buddy? That's some seriously unnatural strength!" Lark said, rushing over to Jenso and uncrossing his arms. "Have you always been this strong?"

Jenso shrugged. "Yeah, as long as I can remember, at least.." He muttered in a calm tone. "But during the fight with Prisma...I sent him flying with one of my punches somehow. I don't think I was able to do that before...I felt some kind of adrenaline rush through me the moment I threw that punch and.." Jenso spoke, trying to remember that situation clearly. He was under a lot of pressure during that battle.

Lark smiled for a few moments in a silence, but shook it off and nodded. "Yep, that's Ki for ya kid, and quite a bit of it too. No way in hell it can be explained any other way," he said casually. Lark then turned over to a much larger boulder than the one that Jenso picked up, and lifted it from below. It was at least 10 times larger, the size of a wrecking ball, but Lark was able to lift it with as much ease as Jenso could. "Ki has some powerful effects on your strength, kid. Even if you aren't consciously using it. If your latent abilities are so strong, then... Well, you might even become even stronger than I am!" Lark dropped the giant boulder and clapped his hands clean. "Unfortunately, I can't really help you learn how to harness your abilities."

"Yeah..that would be great.." Jenso responded, looking at the large boulder that Lark just lifted. It was an impressive thing to behold. The man lifted it like it was nothing. "I'm not sure how to start, though." He added, launching a barrage of punches into plain air with both fists. "Maybe if I had a training dummy or something.."

"A training dummy... Oh! Ohohoho!" Lark clapped his hands one last time and pointed to his chest with a wide grin, "Maybe I can help you after all, Jenso!" Without hesitation, Lark summoned his blade once again and held it up with both hands. "Get ready!" He shouted, charging at Jenso without hesitation. Was he going to attack Jenso head on? With no warning?? What in the world was he thinking? For all Jenso knew, this man could have been even stronger than Prisma! There it was, Lark in mid-sprint, dashing towards Jenso with intent to kill.

Chapter 6

...A duel!?

Lark pulled his weapon back and swung it at Jenso delayed momentum. It was slow, like he was a normal human swinging a long sword, but Jenso wasn't exactly made of steel. The blade sung as it sliced forward, threatening to cut Jenso's arm clean off.

Jenso's eyes widened as Lark attacked. Was he a bad person after all? Or was this some sort of training? Either way, Jenso had no intention to just stand there as he attacked his arm. He quickly jumped to the left to dodge and reeled his arm back, aiming a quick kick at the right side of his head with his left foot.

Lark's sword shot up to block Jenso's foot with its flat side. The movement was far faster than before, but Lark didn't attack afterwards. His right elbow was bent in front of his chest as he held the sword up-side-down and kissed his teeth mockingly, shaking his head. Suddenly his right elbow jutted forward and slammed against Jenso's chest with immense force and speed, far faster than Prisma was for sure. "Come on, wimp! You're sluggish!" Lark shouted, raising his blade again, and beckoning Jenso to attack.

Jenso cringed in pain as Lark's elbow slammed into his chest and he slid back. He dashed forward at Lark as his blade was raised, aiming a punch at the man's stomach with his left hand. "I'm not done yet!!" He roared.

Lark Tanked the punch with his entire mid-section flexed. He held his blade on Jenso's right with one hand, looked down at him for a second, and nodded with his lower lip pursed outward, as if to say 'not bad' or something along those lines. But his lips curved into a smile moments afterwards, and he rose his right foot up towards Jenso's chest, With a single motion, he kicked forward with a massive amount of force.

Jenso blinked as the man tanked the punch. It wasn't too surprising. He knew the man was really powerful, but he was still impressed. But now was not the time to get distracted. As Lark kicked at him, Jenso quickly leaned to the right at the last moment. He managed to avoid Lark's foot from hitting his chest, but it still ended up grazing his left side. He lunged forward, aiming an uppercut- punch at Lark's chin with his right hand.

Lark De-summoned his sword and dodged Jenso's punch by the skin of his teeth. "You gotta find a link-" Lark started, grabbing Jenso by the throat before he could react, and tossing him into a nearby pile of stones. Lark hooted loudly, a little lost in the adrenaline. "Like my link with adrenaline! Ahaha!" He began walking towards Jenso, but with each step, Jenso would feel a new sensation. It was faint, and very weak, but Jenso had the ability to tap into something. He felt Lark's aura, and although he couldn't quite understand what it was, the power was growing as he got closer.

"My power isn't innate, kid! I'm channeling it actively with memories," Lark explained briefly, tapping his skull regardless of whether or not Jenso could see it. Right after, he dashed towards Jenso and prepared to stop on his Leg.

As Jenso crashed into the pile of stones, he quickly scrambled back onto his feet. As he felt the feeling, he was unsure what it was. He didn't recognise it at all, but it seemed to spur him on to keep fighting. Was it coming from Lark? Was he feeling his Ki? As Lark mentioned that his power channeled through memories, Jenso was reminded about his beat down against Prisma and how he failed to win. He grit his teeth as he attempted to jump out of the way of Lark's dash, and launched a barrage of punches at him with both hands from his right.

Lark stopped and deflected all of Jenso's punches one after another, easily staying one step ahead of the uncoordinated attack. The palms of his hands felt almost like rocks as Jenso punched them. Once he was finished, Larked thrusted his right first forward and hit Jenso in the face with a weaker blow, as not to knock him out. As soon as Jenso was able to move again, Lark would start talking.

"Do you usually hit your opponents with that move? That's just a bunch of random punches! Maybe if I couldn't move.. Or or- I was slow as fuck! It might've done something then, but-" He stopped and shrugged. "Got anything else?"
