Perhaps the most important thing to Jacob was how other people viewed him. That could have been due to his own egotistical, prideful tendencies, or it could have been due to the fact that, being a demon, he wanted to make sure people favored him. It wasn't like it was noticeable that he was what he was. However, he wanted to feel comfortable in the case that if someone found out his nature, they would still have a relatively positive view of him. After all, he considered himself to be a pretty nice guy! He didn't go around trying to flex his powers or kill defenseless humans like some members of his "culture."

"I'm hungry."

The voice startled Jacob out of his own thoughts, and he looked up at his brother. "So?" he said, scowling. "You're a grown man. Get you something to eat."

"I want you to go pick me up a bagel and a coffee from that shop down the street."

His brother was met with an incredulous stare.

"...Please," Nicholas added with an insincere smile.

"Okay, whatever," Jacob sighed, standing and stretching his arms over his head. Then, he held his hand out palm-upward toward his brother. "Cough up the dough. Which should include enough for me to get my own fill."

"My money is basically your money," Nicholas grumbled, but shuffled off to his bedroom nonetheless. While Jacob waited, he made to gathering his keys and wallet, as well as slipping his sandals on. "Here," his brother said once he'd returned, slapping a $20 bill into Jacob's hand. "Cinnamon raisin. Large black coffee."

"I don't see why we don't invest in a coffee maker."

"Because the shop makes it for us, and probably makes it better than we could."

"I don't see how it could be that hard to screw up black coffee."

"Believe me, you'd find a way."

Jacob smirked and punched his brother impassively on the shoulder. Nicholas returned his gesture with a laugh and a prominent middle finger, which Jacob ignored as he left the house for the infamous coffee plus bagel run.

The woman behind the counter was friendly and eager to please. It sort of unsettled Jacob, as he couldn't imagine that anyone working with the public could be so genuinely happy all the time. Then again, it was first thing in the morning. His wristwatch read 8:03 A.M, and he could only assume that she'd been on her shift since the store opened two hours ago. The shop was empty save for a young-looking man sitting in one of the booths with his head down. He didn't appear to be drinking or eating anything at all. Jacob quirked an eyebrow in his direction and then turned to await his order.

"Thank you," he muttered, hands now full with bagged bagels and two large coffee cups. It hadn't really occurred to him that it was going to be such a handful, but he managed. Turning on his heel, he ran right into a young woman who'd seemed to sneak up behind him because he hadn't heard her approaching at all. One of the coffees toppled out of his grasp, the lid popping off and spilling all over the front of her shirt. The only thought he could manage was that he was so glad it was the iced coffee that spilled on her.

"I am so sorry," he immediately said, distraught.

Zella looked down at her shirt slightly relieved that she decided against wearing a white t-shirt. She felt her the tips of her hair and let out an exhausted laugh knowing she would have to rewash her again when she got home. Zella pushed her hair out of her face and looked up at the man and shook her head in embarrassment reaching for the napkins another customer was handing her. She gently touched the mans arm and pulled him aside to one of the empty tables so the other customers could get their coffee fix.

"It's totally okay. I should have made more noise, I was distracted by this drama between family. Which I realize now you didn't actually need to know, but this is at least fifty percent by fault," she said to him as she helped him put his items down on a table, "You look like you need a hand to be honest. I can also buy you another ice coffee, which thank you so much for ordering something cold instead of steaming hot."

She knew she was talking a mile a minute and tried to relax herself. This was her first real day in a new city, and she was feeling home sick. She knew it was stupid to feel that way since she the only home she ever really knew was her college dorm. She decided she was more nervous about the new job than anything else.

Jacob was barely able to get a word in as the woman started rattling off about how it was also her fault due to, allegedly, her distraction with family problems. Then, she voiced his exact thought that he was glad he'd ordered an iced coffee, and a small laugh bubbled past his lips. "Oh god," he said. "Me too. I don't know what I would have done if I'd burned you. Don't worry about buying another one. Really, I should be offering something to make this up to you. I don't think coffee comes out of clothes easily. Maybe I could take you out. Buy you another shirt as compensation, get something to eat."

He flashed her a brilliant smile, showing off pearly whites. He knew very well that he was flirting with her -- but he couldn't help himself. She was extremely cute.

Zella let out a small laugh and nodded trying to regain her composure. She couldn't help but feel giddy as she thought about how worried she was not knowing anybody, when the first day she meets someone this attractive. She pulled her phone from her back pocket and punched in her passcode before handing it to him.

"Put your number in my phone and I'll take you up on the offer to go out, a smile that must you get girls swooning for you," she said as she threw the napkins in the trash, "I'm new to this city so I'm not sure really what's around so the plans are all on you. I was going to get coffee and explore, but" she motioned to her shirt, "plans will have to change so people don't think I'm wearing coffee perfume."

"Ah yeah," he said, taking her phone as if he was afraid he'd screw that up too. Maybe Nicholas was right. He probably could find a way to screw up making black coffee. "I'm really sorry about that," he muttered as he navigated her phone to find the contacts page and began to punch in his number. As he did, he continued, "It's not the most glamorous of cities, but we've got a few good places and shopping centers. I could take you around and...stuff."

Oh, no. He was starting to get nervous. That wasn't a feeling he got around people often. Then, snapping his fingers and handing the phone back to her, he said, "Also. My name is Jacob. Jacob Wright."

She took her phone back and quick typed up a text "Try not to spill coffee on any other girls. It's our thing." she wrote before turning her attention back to him. "I just sent you a text so you have my number. I'm Zella Blake. It's nice to meet you, even if the circumstance is...well not the best," she said shaking his hand before continuing, "I'd love for you to show me around! It means I'm less likely to get lost. If you want I can help you carry this back to wherever you were going and possibly rinse off my shirt and we can make a day of it. Unless you have other things to do."

She took a breath to slow herself down again when she noticed she was still holding onto his hand. She quickly dropped his hand and ran hers through her hair. She could still feel the pressure of his touch against her skin and grinned a little.

The loss of the warmth of Zella's hand almost dismayed Jacob, but he smiled politely back at her. "Sure," he said in response to her offer. "I walked. I only live right down the street, with my brother. But I'd better get another coffee. That was mine. This," he gestured at the filled coffee cup on the table, "is for my brother. Well, I have a bagel in the bag too. Ah, I'm kind of rambling, sorry. Do you want me to buy you anything here while we're at it?"

Zella let out a small laugh before responding to his question, "If you don't mind I would love a chai tea," she said, "I had my first one the other day and now I'm addicted. I would say you should try it, but it's a hot drink and I'm a little nervous for innocent bystanders." She smirked to let him know she was joking and leaned against the table as she waited for him to return. She pulled out her phone and went to his name in the contacts. She glanced over at him waiting in line and studied him a little. She couldn't get his smile out of her head, it almost made her heart flutter just thinking about it. "Snap out of it Z. You just met this guy. He could be a complete jerk, or worse a psychopath. I can't believe I'm going to his house. What if he tries to kill me? No. He's not some lunatic or mythical creature. You watch too much supernatural" she thought to herself as she began to turn bright red realizing she was just staring at him.

Per Zella's request, Jacob ordered a chai tea along with a replacement for the iced coffee he'd spilled all over her. Once again, the barista seemed all too happy to please. And once again, it was unsettling. It made him tap the counter nervously, wishing she would just hurry up already with the drinks. When finally she did return with them, he tentatively handed the tea to Zella with a polite smile. "There you go. Um, did you drive? Walk? Like I said, I walked. Also, my phone vibrated with the text you sent. Just haven't, you know, checked it yet."

Zella blushed and took a sip of her drink, she sent the text with a little over confidence and mildly regretted it. She took his drink from his hand and started to walk toward the door. She peered over her shoulder and said, "I walked, so I'll hold these so you can carry your brothers items. I want to make sure no more ice goes down my shirt," she said pushing the door open with her butt and waiting for him to follow. She knew she was being overly cocky, and way too flirty. She just couldn't shake the feeling that there was something special about him. She thought back to the old fairy tale romance she used to tell her father she wanted. When she was out of her thoughts she said, "Lead the way my dear sir."
