As Lark's words echoed throughout his mind, Jenso realised what needed to be done. 'That's...that's the only way, but..how do I..' Jenso thought, as the cold feeling began to overtake him. He closed his eyes and cleared his mind. He took a deep breath in and out as he felt energy surge through him. He didn't think about anything anymore, not even the fact that he was dying. He focused on one thing and one thing alone. To reach out to the power within him.

Jenso's body fell to the floor as he stopped struggling against the force of the worms. He looked deep inside himself for an answer, but there was nothing there. Not at first. Lark's words were merely a start to something that took years to master, molding Arcane energy into a suitable form for use. But there was always something different about Jenso. His soul's affinity called out to his body and gasped for relief from the energy-sucking parasites. Warmth began to build up within him, but it did very little to help with his situation. Still, with that warm feeling in his grasp, Jenso would know exactly what direction to head in. The desperation grew more, but the coincidence of his affinity was all to perfect.

"This heat...it must be fire!" Jenso shouted, as his eyes flashed open. His situation was still terrible, but he wouldn't quit. "I won't let you cool me down, no way!" He cried out, attempting to stand again as a new feeling of confidence rushed through him. He didn't exactly know how or when his flame powers would emerge, but he believed that he still had a chance!

There was no fire, but the Golemites found themselves feasting on a new foundation of arcane energy, the makings of a fire-blooded mage. One after another, they fell off of his body, steaming and hissing in pain as their ice-hard carcasses began to corrode, and lose form. What was left might have given Jenso a fighting chance after all. Although he could not conjure flames, his focus had brought fourth a heated aura around his fists.

He could hurt them.

Chapter 23

Unidentified Heat Source Detected. Threat Level: Moderate


Jenso was now left in the cage with no immediate way out. He was however, in no immediate danger. The cold air felt far less chilling than ever before, and his core body temp was above average with no negative side effects.

Jenso smiled as he felt the heat course through him. "Awesome! This feels great!" He shouted, and dashed over to the bars of the cage. 'No time to lose! If Paulie's still alive, I need to help him!' He thought, and placed his hands on one bar in an attempt to melt it to escape the cage and leave the room.

At first the bar did not budge. But after several seconds, water began to drip down and the width of it was reduced significantly.

Jenso dashed to the opposite side of the cage as power rushed through him. He dashed back at the bar at great speed and rammed his fist into it.

At the point where the ice was thinnest, Jenso struck hard and shattered the bar into two pieces that flew forwards. However, as he run forward, he slipped through the newly open exit and landed on his face outside of the cage.

As Jenso crashed into the ground, his now heated face melted the ground. "Mmmph!" He blurted as the ice turned into water. He hopped back onto his feet and spat it out. "Ew!!" He shouted, and turned to the transparent doors. He moved closer, and placed his hands near the doorknob of one of the doors.

Before Jenso could even put a hand on the doorknob, the two massive chunks of ice swung open and revealed two golems similar to the one that had subdued him earlier. "$%^@%^!" They beeped and buzzed strange noises and approached Jenso quickly, both taking up the width of the doorway with their massive bodies. Their heads glowed a faint yellow underneath all the ice of their huge abdomens, and they both swung their icy fists forwards.

As the two golems attacked, Jenso quickly leaped up into the air in an attempt to avoid the punches. He aimed to land onto the frozen arm of one of the golems and thrust his left fist forward at the first golem's head.

Jenso's skillful movements were more than enough to out manuever the sluggish golems, but his fist didn't deal much damage upon striking the Golem's icy head-piece. The outer later of ice melted away slightly, leaving a small fist-print behind that didn't heal back right away. The left golem, who's arm Jenso had landed on, shook Jenso off with a swing of its arm, and aimed to grab him with his other. Its ally entered further into the room, and waited for a better chance to strike.

Jenso reeled his upper body forward to the ground as he was swung off, in an attempt to move his body lower and dodge the golem's hand and dive right to the golem's right foot. He tried to place both hands onto it.

With both hands on the golem's foot, it rose its leg and reached for Jenso with both arms as his hands melted into its ankle area. The other golem watched carefully, as to avoid harming his ally, apparently.

Jenso hopped off the golem's leg to try to avoid the grabbing hands, landing back on the ground. He dashed under the raised leg and aimed a quick upward kick with his left foot at the opposite side of it's leg, opposite of the area where his hands had melted into it's ankle.

Jenso's kick didn't do much to upset the Golem's balance, and his leg slammed back down. The golem spun around and raised its hands up into a hammer-fist stance, and brought them both down towards Jenso with immense force.

Jenso tried to jump out of the way of the golem's giant hands by jumping further to the left, as a surge of power rushed through him. He tried to dash up the giant golem's arms with great speed, and slam both palms of his hands onto the golem's head.

Jenso's strike pushed the golem back less than a foot, but the resulting damage cracked its face-plate of ice wide open and exposed its yellow core. The other golem then flanked its ally and Jenso, aiming to grab Jenso and pull him off of the other golem.

As the golem moved to grab Jenso, he quickly released the first golem and landed back on the ground to avoid his grab. He dashed towards the second golem's elbow, as a surge of power rushed through him. He punched powerfully at it, hoping to ram the second golem's hand from it's extended arm into it's ally's core.
