There is no greater city than Rome, no larger empire, no stronger army, none above the Imperator, none above the Caesar. Greek culture eclipsed, Egyptians conquered, the Hasmonean Kingdom destroyed under the boot of the mighty Roman army, the culture-less dogs of the north forced to pay tribute or risk destruction.
The Imperator controls all this, the most powerful man in Rome, nay, the known world, a god amongst men.
Yet even he is not immortal.
It has been seen time and time again, Rome falls into anarchy upon the death of every bad emperor, two good rulers, one bad, anarchy, and the cycle repeats. Men declare themselves the new emperor, and the old fade from memory.
Rome is anything if not a land of opportunity, and when Rome calls, men answer.
Okay, okay, a little wordy there, but the basic idea of this RP is that of the Imperial court of Rome, we will start slowly, with the emperor alive and the PCs friendly, but when he inevitably dies a gruesome death, perhaps at the hand of the players, the race for the title of Imperator begins.
The RP will take place at the highest extent of Rome's power, when Hadrian ruled, but there will be no historical characters.
