~ Chapter 43 ~

The Ice Elemental, Pharie Of The Frost


The entire floor was covered in thick ice that continued to climb Jenso's legs. Pharie aimed her rigid hands at Jenso and launched several shards at him from afar. She stood rather tall, almost as tall as the massive ice golem back in Pharie's village, but she was slender and jagged, and icy energy whipped around her body like little tornadoes.

Jenso heard Dacer's words, and frowned. It looked like he was alone for this fight, but he wasn't going to back down. He glared at Pharie and clenched his fists. He had no real anger towards Orobo, but Pharie was a different story. She reminded him of the ice golems that she had created to eradicate everyone in Paulie's village. Flames bursted out of his body in order to melt his legs. He'd place his hands on top of them in order to melt them faster, and try to break free. He would dash forwards and begin to weave left and right as he approached Pharie, to give her a harder time to hit him.

He crossed his arms in front of his chest in order to block any shards that would reach him. He tried to clear the distance between them and aim a punch at her left foot as his fist was surrounded by flames.

Jenso weaved past the icicles, but there was really no need. The flames surrounding him melted Pharie's projectiles before they could even reach him, and made walking across the ice more of a jog through a series of shallow puddles. As he neared his target, his fist struck true and knocked the Ice elemental off her balance. She crashed down towards the ground and landed on her chest. She seemed weak, almost like her energy was dedicated elsewhere. It was strange. The seemingly legendary elementals were falling one after another. Even though Orobo got the better of Jenso for a split moment, he didn't seem to abuse the full extent of what an elemental might be capable of. And now Pharie?

Jenso glared down at Pharie as she went down. It seemed to go a little too smoothly then he had thought. Was this another trap? He didn't have time to think about it. Paulie's life was on the line, and he needed to finish the job. He leaped into the air and united his hands, hammering down at Pharie's core. "This is for PAULIE!!!" He roared, referring both to the meteor that would explode and to the fact that Pharie's golems killed his entire village.

As Jenso came down to smash Pharie's core, a sudden burst of extreme winds pushed him away. It felt too powerful to be true, but it wasn't just a cold burst of energy. This was sheer wind. Suddenly, a tornado-like figured dropped from a dark alcove in the ceiling and landed near Pharie. Another figure, made entirely of flames, dropped to her opposite side and reached into his body with one of his hands. The wind spirit did the same, and simultaneously, they pulled out their cores and smashed them into Pharie's ice body, fading an instant later.

"What the heck?!" Jenso shouted, sliding further back as his feet eventually skidded to a halt. He looked closely at the two figures. A wind figure and a figure made out of flames. 'Are those...the air and fire elementals..? What are they-' He thought, as his train of thoughts was cut off when they slammed their cores into Pharie's body. He wasn't sure what to make of the whole situation. Did the 3 elementals just merge together, or was something else going on?

Pharie suddenly melted down into a small orb of water. But before Jenso had a chance to really react, a flash of light blinded him and hid the following transformation. When Jenso was able to see again, he noticed that there was now an elemental orb of flames, wind, and water flying in circular motions around the three gems that had now fused into one.

The orb had no face, legs, arms or anything. It simply floated there and glowed. Something was going to happen... But what?

Jenso glared at the fused gem and the orb that floated around it. The 3 elementals had indeed fused. Did they plan this from the very start before he and Dacer even climbed the mountain, or did they do so as a last ditch effort to win? He didn't know. Either way, Pharie still lived and Paulie's life was still in danger. He got in a defensive stance, waiting for whatever the elementals would try.

Although the elemental orb pulsated, it did not engage Jenso. It seemed preoccupied with something else..

"Jenso!" Dacer cried, slamming against the door with a flurry of arrows to no avail. "The other two meteors! They've been activated! What the hell did they do!?"

"What?! Damn it!" Jenso shouted back at Dacer, and dashed at the fused gem. He aimed a punch at it with his left hand, trying to avoid the elemental orb that was flying around it. "Come on, let's finish this!" He shouted.

The gem at the center of the swirling energies floated back and launched a stream of icicles in Jenso's direction before he could even get close, but whatever it was doing was completely interrupted by Jenso's interference.

Jenso dashed to the right in order to avoid the incoming stream of icicles as flames bursted out of his body. He crossed his arms in front of his left side as he moved to the right in order to try to block any icicles that would get close.

Even after his dash, the icicles that neared Jenso melted into liquid before they got anywhere near him. When he attempted to punch at them, they dissolved into water and splashed against his fist. The elemental sphere lowered and slammed against the ground, launching a wave of flames at Jenso that spread out and covered the entire floor, melting the ice as it did so.

Jenso glared at the incoming wave of flames that moved over the ground. This fight was going to be tricky, and he couldn't afford to be careless. As the flames closed in, he attempted to leap right over the wave and aim a kick at the gem with his right foot. 'Man...that's a pretty cool technique!' Jenso thought after seeing the flame wave.

The orb of elements backed away again, and a wall of water rose from the melted ice beneath him, and refroze around Jenso's foot in midair. The orb floated above him and launched another stream of icicles at him, but enhanced them with whipping winds, capable of cutting through Jenso's skin.

Jenso's eyes widened as his foot was frozen. He made flames burst out of his body in order to melt the ice around it and break free, as a surge of power rushed through him. He tried to dash out of the way of the whipping winds and the icicles, hoping his flames would be enough to melt the icicles that got too close. He leaped at the ice wall which was previously just water at top speeds, aiming to use it as a stepping stone and push himself off of it with his feet to launch himself to the orb. He thrusted his right fist forwards at it.

Jenso's fist nearly struck the orb, but missed by a few feet as it whipped around him and blew him towards the ceiling with a massive gust of air. It shifted color again and began to spark with energy, before firing a bolt of pure electricity at Jenso from its core. It stood perfectly still while doing this, but the energy that it fired was intense. Pure lightning? What kind of power did this thing have?

Jenso frowned as he was blasted at the ceiling and the bolt of electricity headed at him. 'Man...they can use electricity now, too?' He thought. He spun around in mid-air in order to land on the ceiling with his feet and push himself off to launch himself towards one of the walls of the room on the orb's right side and to try to dodge the electricity. A surge of power rushed through him if he were to reach the wall, prepared to stomp himself off with great strength to launch himself at the orb at top speeds while it was holding still, aiming another punch at it with his left fist.

Although the orb was still, the electricity was still buzzing, and as soon as Jenso approached again, a stream of lightning headed towards him once again.
