Shiranui was confident he'd make the top 32 and while he made his way back to the room he heard a giggle in his mind. He stopped to look around and did not see any psychic Pokémon in his vicinity.

Liam and Jiriya walked back to the room he was sleeping in earlier, which Joy arranged for Shiranui to have as well. They got separated form Shiranui in the crowd. They eventually caught up to him while he was looking in their direction.
"Something wrong?" Liam asked.
"Ninja?" Jiriya inquired.

Soon after, Liam went to bed. In the morning, all of the trainers gathered at the smaller arenas around the main stage to begin prelims. (insert montage set to Advanced Battle theme youtu.be/7pkIVd9w9x4)

After all of the prelims, the top sixteen included: Liam, Shiranui, Nando, Morrison, Harrison, Ash, Tyson, Liam's rival Trevor, and some others.

"Sunakaba, Stealth Rock!" After Arcanine changed the weather, Sunakaba fired a salvo of rocks from the holes on his body. The rocks implanted themselves into the ground on Trevor's side of the battlefield, creating one of the most commonly-used entry hazards.

"Sunakaba, return; Numeru, stand your ground!" Shiranui switched out his Hippowdon and sent in his Goodra. Numeru made no effort to dodge the attack and the Solar Beam connected. When the dust faded, Numeru was unscathed and in fact physically stronger thanks to her Sap Sipper ability.

The Stealth Rock popped out of the ground and did a little bit of damage to Lairon before re-burying itself. "Numeru, Bide!" Shiranui was familiar with how Metal Burst worked and after Numeru started a Bide attack, there was no power for Lairon to retaliate with.

"Automatize!" Trevor called. Lairon built up his speed. The sunlight returned to normal. Goodra would be stuck gathering energy still. Trevor called for Roar right before Bide would have fired if Numeru had been hit by any moves.
