New Idea: Okay, small town, population 400 at the most, maybe like a tiny coastal community, probably pretty poor area, actually, maybe the population is closer to a thousand. Okay, anyway, it's a fishing community that starts hearing weird things in the night, weird noises coming from the sea. maybe it turns out to be some ancient sea-god come to reclaim the coast. Maybe its aliens. Maybe its nothing.

Fuck, what is it?

Okay, confession time. When I made the character for BlackSam3091's Mass Effect: Underworld, I used the bio from a villain I had for a different Sci-Fi universe. In fact, the Ellis Taevon they're familiar with is nothing like the Ellis Taevon I originally made. He's better humored, and less unpredictable. He's also not nearly as smart.

Plus, in my original works, NERO was a extradimensional parasite that had latched itself to Ellis' mind, convincing him it was the voice of God, using the man's opportunities to achieve dimensional domination.

NERO wasn't even its real name. It was the designation of a simple AI that Ellis had installed in his exo-suit, that NERO devoured, and mimicked.

The true Ellis, in fact, is nigh invincible, an indestructible villain for a hero whose luck is practically is a skill in itself, an enemy that could only be destroyed by his own hand. I'm gonna let the ME:Underworld Ellis Taevon continue to grow on his own, as he'll likely end up being the other Ellis' role model, in my head.

Plus, let's hope Jeb can find him first.

Taking Timothy

Short Story, Suspense?

This one reminded me a bit of Death Note. Although the supernatural being in that was a death god and the boy was an ace-student with a detective father. But, maybe the idea of a human+supernatural pair may work as a jumping off point? Maybe introduce another demon who also has a host boy. As a suspense, the new pair could be cunning and the narrator and his "ward" would need to get better despite the fact that the boy's parents are calling on 'the Lord'.

And I also got the vibe that you could work it as a dark comedy, especially with your narrator. Where two demons had two different but similarly twink-ish boys. The demons may need to prove their worth to a higher power to stay as demons or perhaps they just are long time rivals who need to one up each other. So, they try to 'fix their twinks'.

The beginning obviously has some darkness to it, and it may be sacrilegious to give it humor, but the demons also have very little morality...so...

Well, now I'm rambling.

ps. Thanks for the ideas on my post. I posted the short story as a potential RP. Your notes on the female narrator were enlightening. I've never looked at her in that particlar light. Really she was kind of personality-less to me, which maybe why I stopped. But, now I've got some where to go. Thanks. :)

@Hanleth I was actually thinking it might be interesting to introduce the Christian therapist as a sort of demonic "mystery shopper", who reviews possessions for Satan's pyramid scheme. So, he would be really annoying, and pushing Timmy's buttons, until Timmy's demon manifested, and the Psychiatrist would record just how well the demon had possessed him, for quality assurance purposes.

I like the idea of introducing another demon. I'm sure you can tell, but the demon didn't really develop a character until partaway through, so the rewrite will encompass that. But yeah, another demon, especially an ultra-professional demon, like, all evil, all the time, would be extremely fun. Like, literally, to the extremes of fun. And yeah, it's sacrilegious for fun. I figured if angels are always praising God, demons would always be damning him and expressing fear of Satan.

Uncertain

Science.
The art of knowing.
In the end, nothing is truly known. What we percieve as knowledge is simply memory of past cause and effect, not even a semi-reliable indicator of future causes or future effects.

In the end, we know nothing.

Prologue

It was a snowy January morning, a new day at the start of a new year, same old shit.

One of my snowmobiles had blown a track. My tools had water dripped on them overnight from a leak in my shed, and had frozen together, in one solid Phillips-headed, wrench-tailed mass, ahered to the inside of the toolbox with the tensile strength of God himself. It took three hours to crack it open. When I finally did, I wiped off ice shavings and glassy shards, and noticed that I'd had six AA batteries in there too. All busted. The ice had veins of battery acid, converging in little nebulae of toxic sludge.

Fuck this.

Instead of just being an asshole about it all, I'd like to tell you about my own fantasy universe. I worked a long time on the inner workings of the world, and maybe it could demonstrate some of my points, instead of me just being a nitpicky dick about everything, lol.

The story itself is called Afterthoughts, but I'm just gonna tell you about the world.

I called it Transience, my characters called it "the Transient World", "Transience", "Temporary Home", and it was even called "the rental" by some characters, because it wasn't supposed to be permanent. Overpopulation became such a problem through reincarnation, being that so many were being born without having a full soul to inhabit the body, that those with fragmented souls were given a new place to reincarnate into. The god of this world, calling itself "Rim", and declaring itself "perfection in balance" ruled for a while with impunity, but soon left for other matters, leaving behind the new world to fend for itself. It quickly fell to mayhem, left to be tended by broken souls.

Timelines skewed, we often see the twisted remnants of races older than humanity, forgotten bits of old experiments gone wrong roaming the sulfurous plains of Transience. We see Areiaion that have been abandoned by the collective, forming their bodies into unprecedented shapes, becoming predators in the darkness, feral and savage. We see Ve'lar who have become corrupt, now blinded by ambiguity, unable to decipher right and wrong in the face of new and strange adversity. We see God lose its power as the life it sacrificed itself to produce turns against it, and proves to be more powerful than God ever imagined. And through it all, the Captivator rises.

THEORY:

I have a theory that the nature of electricity is the nature of life. Every living thing runs on bioelectrical impulses, directing its behaviour. Well, every actively living thing. In that concept, I wonder at all of our electronic marvels. What if, in a sense, we are actively creating simple, disposable life forms? Electrocution, it is possible, is simply too much "life energy" for a body to handle, as we know that there are vessels that could contain the energy of a lightning strike. However, against this theory is another theory of mine that the nature of life is actually heat.
