Jenso stared at the painting in shock. "What the....HOW?!" Jenso whispered, trying not to shout to avoid alerting the enemy. "My battle against Sera, when I was using my One with Nature form..." Jenso muttered, touching the painting with his fingers. He thought back about when he and Bruce were in the wind temple, and it depicted a man with amazing wind powers. "You don't mean...someone knew that Jeff and me would...Is this for real? Is everything happening according to this prophecy?!" He whispered, feeling very confused. "I don't understand...how...how did the Sages know? Could the ying-yang blade really see THAT far into the future?"

Luke walked further down the temple's walkway until he reached the final painting, larger than any of the rest. It depicted a golden hero, face to face with an entity doused in red energy. But his torso was penetrated by a spear of red energies, and his face was pale. Behind the two clashing forces, there stood six others, over the bodies of four men, with corpses scattered around their feet.

"Jenso.." Luke murmured, reaching towards the painting weakly.

Jenso walked up to Luke and smiled. "Man, this is weird but cool in a way.." Jenso whispered to him. "What's-" Jenso muttered, and looked at the final painting. He went completely silent and his face went pale. "Th-This can't.." Jenso muttered, stumbling back. "This can't be...did I come all this way, just to...and did others die along with me?!" He whispered. "If that's the case, why do I even..." He added, looking at the ground with a gloomy look on his face.

Bruce stood just behind Jenso, taking in the sight of the paintings with somewhat less awe. He didn't doubt that Jenso's retelling of his adventures thus far were true, but he couldn't bring himself to be convinced that these depictions truly reflected future events. He scowled once they reached the final carving, and his expression harshened at Jenso's reaction.
"Nonsense." he spat. "Jenso, I've made a decision. I will join this guild of heroes that your friend started."
Bruce clapped his hand on Jenso's shoulder, and looked him straight in the eye with his brow furrowed.
"I will fight with you against this Order of Chaos," he said, raising one hand and pointing at the carving of the fallen figures where six others loomed. "And I'll tell you this- I refuse to die, out of spite for this so-called fate, if nothing else."

Jenso's hands trembled as he looked at Bruce. "You...you are?" Jenso said, sounding cheerful for a moment. "I don't know...I don't know how things will turn out, but.." Jenso muttered. "You'll stand with me, knowing you might be one of those fallen people?" He said, confused for a moment. However, Bruce's words gave him confidence. "You know what? You're right. I've always had to fight against great odds, and I overcame them. And I sure as hell can overcome this one!" He shouted. "Let's face the Order, together!"

"A Useless Endeavour" a shrill voice announced from the back of the room. Luke spun around and aimed his rifle carefully at the approaching figure, but it did not stop. It stepped forward, wielding a blade of ebony craft, lined with ivory markings along both sides.

"To fight against fate"

Ying... Yang...

"At the foot of your own demise, told by time itself beyond your comprehension or admittance, the truth bares down, weightlessly holding you in place. You choose to deny, idiotic!" Vale hummed, stepping closer, "It should have been you, Jenso. Now, it will be you."

Bruce, normally composed and patient, felt his nerves being tested by whoever this was, speaking in condescending tones and trying to reaffirm ridiculous beliefs that the events of history and the world were predetermined by some unseen force. Uncharacteristically, despite not being addressed, Bruce spoke out of turn.
"I take no issue with the idea that there are forces beyond our control," he said, his face caught in a grimace. "But nothing is decided for anyone unless they allow it."
Bruce pointed a finger.
"Your fatalistic attitude is the difference that makes people like Jenso capable of more than you'll ever be."

Jenso got in a combat stance as Vale moved closer. "We can talk about this, Vale...This isn't what Lark would have wanted." Jenso stated calmly, keeping a close eye on Vale's movements. He doubted he would be able to reason with Vale, but he decided to try at least. "Be careful, guys. He's really, REALLY strong and fast. Don't let your guard down." Jenso whispered to his allies.

Vale revealed his usual toothy smile, this time, bathed in the blood of the men that Jenso had left alive in the room just before this one. With his head slightly tilted, he glared at Bruce with narrow eyes, and chuckled slowly.

"Eh.. Heh.. Heh..?" His smile shrank into a tensed frown. Vale grit his teeth angrily, and tears began to stream down one side of his cheek. "Fatalistic, truth, synonymous. Your beliefs, your understanding, it will not change what will come to be. Idiots. Idiots!" Vale hissed, darting his eyes towards Jenso.

"You know nothing of Lark or what he wanted, insolent filth. You are a pitiful insect, taken pity upon by a weak old man. A man whom I'd no intention of letting die, but now. You." Vale lowered his blade and smiled again, shifting his neck.

"Walk into the next room, with your father, Jenso," Vale commanded, "There is a surprise waiting for you in there, buried in love, I assure it to you." He turned his focus back to Bruce and his smile widened even further. "You. Boy. You will stay here. You will watch."

Bruce briefly bared his own teeth at Vale, unimpressed by the psychotic glint in his eye or the blood in his mouth. He gripped his sheath tightly with one hand, veins visible on his forearm. Vale's term for Bruce didn't bother him, but his already grated nerves were being further tested by Vale's pretense that he could order him around. Still, apart from shifting his footing in anticipation for a possible sudden skirmish, he stayed where he was.
"Oh," he said, his tone conveying a biting sarcasm. "I will, will I? How fortunate that you told me, because I wasn't aware of that fact. And what, exactly, does your precious fate foretell you will be doing?"

Jenso glared at Vale, and turned to Bruce and Luke. "You guys should escape from here...It's too dangerous for you. Run while he's focused on me." Jenso whispered to them. He turned back at Vale. "Let Bruce and my father go, they have nothing to do with this. It's me you want!" Jenso shouted at him. He wanted to help his father escape, but he feared that Vale would kill him before he would even have the chance.

Vale let out a series of raspy giggles and rose his blade. "Just one thing," he hissed, angling his blade at a 45 degree angle with a twist of his wrist. He shook his head at Jenso, and rested his stance.

"I will kill your father, your friends, and every last person on this wretched rock, if you do not walk, Jenso," Vale ordered.

"Go on."

Jenso glared at Vale and nodded. He headed into the room, in order to see what Vale mentioned earlier. 'I should listen, maybe he'll keep his word..' He thought, hoping he wouldn't kill anyone.

"Good boy, Jenso," Vale growled, stopping in front of Bruce. Luke followed after Jenso quickly. Moments after they exited, however, the two doorways leading into the final room were sealed shut with a silvery metallic material. Vale began laughing hysterically for a few moments, losing his composure and stumbling back a few steps. He looked up at Bruce with his pointed fangs bared, and stood up straight again.

"Good Boy."

~ Chapter 99 ~

A Father's Guidance

Luke and Jenso were locked in a large room, without any defining features. The roof was dome-shaped, and there were bodies strewn about. Several small cavernous holes lined the base of the walls, too small to crawl through, but what stood out, was the pedestal in the center of the room. The final purity amulet was sitting atop the pedestal, waiting to be taken.

"Jenso, there it is," Luke said, stepping forwards.

Vale tapped the tip of his sword against the stone ground and tilted his head from the left, to the right. "Worried?" He asked calmly, eyeing Bruce. "Worried? Worried? Or are you just as stupid as that foolish boy and his father?"

Jenso walked up to the amulet and stared at it. "Get ready, dad...something bad is bound to happen when I grab it. Vale wouldn't have set things up like this otherwise." Jenso said to Luke. "Please move further away when I take it..." He added, waiting for his father to move further back in order to grab it.

Luke stood back and nodded, holding his rifle at the ready. "I've got your back, Son."

Jenso smiled back at his father and grabbed the amulet, unsure of what was about to happen. He now had all five amulets. One around his neck, three in his bag and the fifth within his hand. He was really curious, but feared for his father's safety at the same time.

Bruce didn't dignify Vale's childish banter with an answer. He had taken several moments to steady his temper and recenter himself. He watched the door that Jenso and Luke had entered close, and he stood in the same place, one hand still on his sheath. Slowly, he turned his neck until his head faced Vale, his eyes half-lidded, his expression almost bored on the surface. But he maintained eye contact for several seconds, unblinking, following every shift Vale restlessly made. In the blink of an eye, Bruce took one of the several spearheads on his waist and thrust it toward the final carving preceding the passage into the next room. The projectile lodged itself into the forehead of one of the looming six men.
Finally, Bruce turned his head back, facing the door once again. He'd made his statement.
