Family turmoil. How tedious.

And she did have a sibling. A rather uncharming one.

It was ubiquitous and ever-present. Everyone had their own problems, a mother that didn’t love them enough, an absentee father, and abusive uncle, a too-friendly aunt. These were the things that ate up human lives and deprived them of any meaning. Every generation cannibalized the next with their unfulfilled expectations, their vicarious desires, their mental illnesses. And the cycle went on, time and again.

It was meaningless to Sasha. He lived in a world without these weights. Even when Alasdair lived, Sasha had free reign. These brands of partnership don’t last three hundred years without a workable dynamic.

But, in so tangling himself with this one human, Alasdair’s blooded descendant, so too did he begin involving himself in her affairs. Sasha was not without sympathy, but he simply had no human solutions to the problem. Snapping Alistair Senior’s neck would solve all of this straight away, and although Sasha knew Alice would for some reason protest, he couldn’t muster enough mortal parts of himself to care.

Still… for whatever reason, Sasha folded the letter and tucked it into an inner shirt pocket. Somehow he felt this information would be useful in the future. Either for manipulating Alice or… well it wasn’t entirely out of the realm of possibility that he might want to help somehow. Without killing anyone, even.

“Refreshed?” Sasha shifted his attention to his phone. It had buzzed in his pocket; he’d received a text message. “If you’d cooperated you could have had a hot meal instead of cold leftovers.”

His phone illuminated his features with a soft blue hue. Eᴅᴡᴀʀᴅ Kɪʟʙᴏʀɴ, 38, Sʜᴇғғɪᴇʟᴅ. Cʜᴀʀɢᴇs ᴅʀᴏᴘᴘᴇᴅ. Eᴠɪᴅᴇɴᴄᴇ ɪɴᴀᴅᴍɪssɪʙʟᴇ. Gᴜɪʟᴛ ᴜɴᴅᴇɴɪᴀʙʟᴇ.

“Hm.” He clicked his phone off. “We’re to travel by car. The drive will be lengthy but we’ll reach the Channel Tunnel by dawn, and there we can stay until sunset." Sasha glanced casually around the flat, noting the mess candidly. He picked up one of the pins from the arm of the sofa and twirled it in his finger. "As prim as you dress, this is how you live? Have you so little respect for yourself?"

Alice yawned as she began hinting about the room for her suitcase, slowly shifting the chaos too and fro. Munching on the pizza. Hearing Santa's question she shot him a disapproving frown. "I have plenty of respect for myself! I'm just usually at the Timeless and when I am here..." Her pale skin flamed red with embarrassment. "Well, my head is still focused on clothes and fashions. Whenever I make it home I either work more or eat something before someone shoves food down my throat... or pass out." She gave a delicate cough. "And it's perfectly organized! I know exactly where everything is!" She rebounded with that argument. Adding on several materials, fabrics and the variety of colors she had, plus where what was. Which was all exactly as she said.

As she spoke, however, a small pile began forming next to Sasha. Ranging from what one could assume was casual to elegant gowns to the wear she usually had posted in her Facebook profile. And for a small pile, it could last a grown man for a month and she was still adding to it.

Alice slowly began fuming quietly to herself. Her search growing more frantic and things being handled a tad more roughly. "Where is that suitcase! And wear are my sandals! And why is my Christmas tree still up!" The last was said as she looked at the tree and began moving it as if looking for something.

"Where did I put my Christmas tree box?" Alice mutters, pulling the lights off after unplugging them. "Well!"

Sasha was immobile and silent for a lasting moment.

"Are you bringing your Christmas tree, Alice?" What bewildering behavior. This girl seemed to have a persistent disconnect with reality. Sure the entire realization that vampires exist could unbalance most, but he was genuinely puzzled with this girl's behavior. "Or are you mistaking me for your maid?"

He rose from the couch, still twisting a pin between his fingers. Looming in toward Alice and the Christmas tree, he bent as if to reach for the cord of the lights, then at the last moment pointed out the pin and attempted to pluck her hand—revenge for those instances at the Timeless.

"Focus, Alice. Remember why we came here?" He glanced at the window, gauging the time again. They couldn't dally here too long. "You needed to make some calls and pack your projects. You've showered and eaten since we returned, but nothing you promised you needed to do. Can I rely on you or not?"

He sniffed at the Christmas tree.

"Cloying holiday, anyway."

Blinking in surprise Alice gave the supposed vampire a apologetic look. Her tiredness mixed with the strain she had been placed under was making her more forgetful than usual. "I've lost my suitcase." The raven haired tailor gave a forlorn sigh. She knew exactly where each pin and needle was in this 'haystack'. Even her fabrics were sorted in their chaotic order. Yet when it came to finding the right average item- be that a phone, suitcase or vase= She would completely walk by it without notice. Couple that with the distractions of work and the dratted tree she needed to take down. It was rather embarrassing. "I usually know exactly where everything is. It's probably the lack of sleep." She waved off her little quirk with the truth. A truth twisted to a lie.

How often did her own family do such? Though her parents had married, it hadn't been for love or affection. Business partnership that neither could afford to lose and both wanted the best for their heir. Unfortunately that hadn't turned out to be her, something Alice was slightly thankful for. It gave her a chance to live a normal life. Something under valued in this day and age.

Moving from her tree, she pulled a large hanging bag. It protected her project during her travel. Laying it on the couch, where Sasha got up. She began fulling it with the carefully made dresses. Each a specific theme and stlye. One was a long evening gown reflecting the night sky. Pins holding the form together. Another was small, the size of a child and fairy styled with a breeziness to it. Several others when in as well. Alice moving from the bag to a counter where a large sketch book sat with the different dresses sketched out, and then to collect what was needed.

"I don't suppose you could help look, instead of sitting about? Didn't you say we-" Alice stiffled a yawn. "-had to be on our way? I can call from my car. They won't refuse." She gave a Cheshire cat's smirk, "Shop space is expensive after all."
