google.com/maps/@35.1006169,-106.5761…

That is the Google Maps street view spot where Duncan spotted you. He was headed west. You'd have just come from I-25 a few miles back headed east. This is about a mile before the end of the straight away ... and an exit. It's a bit far to yell at one another. But Duncan's car is still running...

Don't worry about a rewrite. I can work around it.

Mmm, I did actually look on Google Maps to get an idea of where they were, but I was looking at the interstate further east of the point you linked me. So I got the impression that all there was in between the east and west roads was a divider. Anyway, quick question for you.

I tried to look for pictures of the car you wrote he was using. I'm getting pictures of low cars with only front seats-- and very very little trunk space. Is there anything in the trunk, or is Darlene free to put her stuff in there?

McLaren P1 (375 ever made)
drive.google.com/open?id=1Rf-AjHBOVAE…

Duncan also has a lamborghini, but he started with the McLaren because it as a hybrid. At least if he broke down he could get back.

The only stuff Duncan has in the car is his Go Bag MRE's, water, basic tools, weapons. There isn't much space, but if she is travelling light she ought to be okay.

Just a heads up that I'll be late posting this time, I'll probably only be able to get something up Tuesday or even on Wednesday.

This post is a shorter, as there's not as much to be done.

I'm guessing that Darlene won't actually leave until a few posts later since she still needs to get back to the base and gather her stuff and all, but after that we can probably time skip the time they spend away from each other. Darlene will either come back after a few days more composed and at terms with what she has learned, or perhaps she'll go the other direction and break down more. Then maybe Duncan could find her, since she won't be going far.

Not entirely sure what I'm going to have her do yet, but I'll decide by the time she leaves him.

Well, I may have accelerated her departure in terms of posts. At this point you could just about post her leaving and return in a single post.

I won't really have much to write for Duncan. For him it will be back to business as usual, though now he may make up his mind to leave.

Sigh. Okay. Uh, you've probably noticed I've been later with my posts recently: first responding after 2 days, then 3, and once longer. I've been getting kinda busy and overwhelmed lately with the school year approaching along with other things. I need to take a short break to sort stuff out before I can respond, probably until the end of this week-ish with the addition of a day, perhaps. I know you tend to prefer faster responses and all, so I'm really sorry, but after that I'll work on my post again.

Though I'll ask you a quick question already so I can think of what I want Darlene to do in my spare time. So, say that Darlene comes back after three or four days. Would Duncan have left by then? And then, the same question for if she comes back after a week.

Well, he has to finish loading up a train ... by himself. That means everything at his main base, the animals of the farm, food to feed them. That won't happen overnight. With help of a few people that is a few days, by himself, at least a week. And that is with leaving a lot of stuff behind that he doesn't really need.

Hey, Mitheral? Sorry about raising this so suddenly out of nowhere, but I'm starting to find that Duncan's level and achievements are getting a bit too high for my comfort.

I do understand that I did say that it was fine for Duncan to be a prodigy, but I did not expect him to have completed a PhD by the time he was fifteen. One PhD would have already been quite something, and completing more than one is even more unbelievable, in my opinion. Even as a prodigy, I should think that completing one PhD would have taken at least two to three years? Or much longer, in fact. That would mean that he would have started working for his PhDs at age twelve or thirteen, at an astounding young age.

What also makes these achievements too high in my view is how you wrote about his constant abuse from a young age. I should think that this would have meant he might have had to miss school to recover, on top of the fact that you said in his bio that he was often bored-- meaning that he must not have been allowed to skip grades, at least not until later.

I should also think that recovering from killing several gang members must have taken a while, and all that counseling afterward must have taken time away from his studies.

I'm not sure when he changed hands to a foster family. But if Duncan would have changed to his kind family that allowed him to study as much as he liked at a younger age, it probably would have not been possible for him to defeat those gang members.

I would like to ask if you are willing to tone down what Duncan has done. Some intellect is great and I think that it makes things more interesting for Darlene to be around someone who knows so much, but all these PhDs and degrees are making me uncomfortable.

Two PhD's .. The fields he was in often take 1 year. (Physics and Chemistry) Personal experience. I did much the same personally ... without the advantages of computers and CLEP testing with the same sort of abuse. My stepfather told me Science never did the world any good; I was wasting my time. Honestly to me Duncan just a bit above average. His biggest advantage over me was the development of the internet before he was born. He jumped past all his grades after age 11-12 by just getting his GED. He no longer needed high school to take college level courses. He CLEP'd through most studying at his own pace. Heck, I started with 20 semester hours in college. People looked at me like I was crazy. 140 pages of reading a day. But a year later I still had a perfect GPA and in Physics and Chemistry I had 100's on everything.

I have spent a lifetime dealing with people who just aren't comfortable with anyone being that smart. I would literally write up a synthesis procedure for a new molecule in minutes and have it submitted and approved within the hour - and thought it was easy. It comes off as sounding arrogant, I know. I got so fed up I left the field of science behind nearly 20 years ago.

However ... understood ... Please don't think me upset. Not the first time I have dealt with this. And if you still want to quit, I understand.

Let's drop the PhD's and have them as WIP's. The football stuff? All he did was start putting points on the board by kicking field goals. His old sport was soccer. Kicker was the only position he could handle. FYI, it only takes a couple weeks to recover from a gunshot wound enough to move around. His right side was almost untouched.

He did not fight the 12 gang all at one time. He hit them in waves. He used the weapons from the first wave against the rest.

If I have missed something here holler.

I'm still not quite sure how a PhD for Physics or Chemistry can only take a year, as the information I'm getting pretty much everywhere tells me somewhere from 8 to 10 years. Even specifically for a Chemisty PhD, I got the average number of 10 years. But I won't dwell on that, since you did agree to change it. Maybe I got the wrong information. But I am not unfamiliar with GED and CLEP testing and how to graduate early. My sister did graduate high school a few years early, and passed CLEP for Pre-calculus after studying for one or two months, years before she turned 18 in order to be allowed to take Calculus based Physics that fall.

I don't have a problem with smart people. I just didn't find getting two PhDs in two years realistic, and that didn't sit well with me. Neither did I mention that I wanted to quit when I posted earlier, I simply wanted to see if you would be willing to change some things. Thank you for being understanding.

The football stuff was fine, I made no mention of it or any critique regarding that. I don't quite understand why you would bring up how long it takes to recover from a gunshot wound, but nevermind. I also didn't say that he fought the gang all 12 at a time. My point was that I should have thought that he might have gotten a wound or two that needed to be taken care of, perhaps transferring over to a foster family would have taken some time, perhaps going to all those counseling sessions you mentioned would have taken some time.

Again, thank you for agreeing to work with me to change a few things. I did not intend to drop initially, but after thinking it over last night I have, regrettably, decided that I will not continue. Don't think that it's because of this recent post exchange we're having discussing this. I have been thinking about this for a while, and I feel that the way we rp and write is quite different, and therefore I think this rp turned out to be different from what I expected.

I'm sorry for leaving this rp a month in, but I wish you luck on your other rps.
