The Mynua are a native race of the planet the Human's call Hephaestus. Somewhere in between insect and human-like, the Mynua have three layers of skin. The outer layer, hard and plated, the mid layer, still rough and course, placed in areas between the plates of the outer layer so the Mynua can maneuver, and the inner layer, soft and fleshy, like a human's skin. The mid layer of skin only really applies to the center of the body, where all of the important organs are. The outer layer generates a dome over one's head, helpful against falling debris and shade from the sun. They have even created visors to further help protection against the sun.

Over time, the Mynua have developed a single system of communication spread across the planet. Over the millions of years in which the species has slowly grown and evolved, it is the culmination of  many different languages that the Mynua have used. 

The Mynua primarily live underground, underneath the hot surface of the planet, and where most, if not all of the water is located. While they are not barbaric, the Mynua live simple lives. While settlements have been established all over the planet, the Mynua are typically nomads, traveling from one settlement to the next. Settlements had leaders, as groups always did, and people played their parts with subjects they were best in. Everyone had a place to do something, no matter how ordinary or strange it may be. There was always a reason, even if it could not yet be understood. They trade and offer wisdom from other settlements, keeping everyone connected in a more analogue way than what can be accomplished with their technological advancements before the Human's came.

Once the Humans arrived, it took a little for peace to be cemented between the two species. The Mynua firmly believed that there were beings further than what they could see, as well as believing in a pantheon of creators. Once communication was established between the two on a level that they could both understand, the Mynua allowed them to travel the surface. They did not take too kindly to having their planet being mined out, but allowed in on the conditions that the Mynua would be overseeing the operations, and change things as they needed to be changed. After a little compromise, things were easy between the two, even if they were not the best of friends with one another.

The Mynua, like humans, use sirnames, but only in application to their settlement/clan/grouping. This means that their sirname can change more than once throughout their life. Those who do not live under a clan or grouping are known as "Kasha". This is both a grouping term for those on their own, and used is as any other sirname would be used.

Facts/Backstory: Kari grew up in the Sabaan settlement, in the northern part of the planet. The settlement itself was deeper underground than most, and was probably just as hot as the surface above. That was just how Kari liked it, though. She enjoyed spending hours looking at all of the different creatures and rocks around and above her, Not to mention her mother and father were not too keen on letting her up on the surface to talk to the Humans. 
As she grew older, she wandered further and further upwards, eventually finding the surface and the Humans that lived there. She talked to them. Her settlement was one of the last to not have direct contact with the Humans. She supposed it made sense. They weren't too keen on outsiders in the first place, and even if they were from beyond the surface, they would not always be welcomed with open arms. However, she took this chance to learn more about them.
Time passed and she had eventually gotten the leader of her settlement, her own father, to talk directly with the humans. She didn't want to stop there, though. She wanted to prove that these outsiders were friendly, and could be trusted. It was about that time that she started looking for ways to push relations even further, by joining Human organizations. 
She went to the stars, learning about all of the other races she knew so very little about, and knew that this was her place. She belonged in the Final Frontier.
Fact - Kari cannot whistle. Almost everyone else she knows can, but she has never been able to, no matter how hard she tried.
Weapons: Tool Kit - Though the Mynua have strong claws for piercing rocks, there are a few things that she needs to help with her studies and finds. Dusts, pics of various materials for different uses, and small containers for storing delicate items in.
Visor and Interface - Because of her lack of hands, using tools and computers can be quite difficult for any Mynua. However, a joint project between Humans and the Mynua have allowed them to better access everything that a human can. The visor now serves as a Heads-Up-Display, in addition to just protection from the sun, and small sensors have been place within the organic armor to allow Kari to use electronic devices, such as computers, vehicles, and other tools, while just moving her body and extra appendages to control them. This makes physical contact with devices obsolete, and very helpful to the Mynua in general.

Skills: Bilingual - Kari is fluent in both Mynuan and the Earth English, and can translate between the two rather easily. Though sometimes she can become distracted and overwhelmed, using the other language when it has no place in the particular area.
Geology - She had taken up the study of the ground underneath and above her when she was very little, having loved all of the different types of minerals and rocks around her. Humans had a refined section of study based on that of just rocks, and Kari fell in love. Her species has no official "degrees" or learning, but she has spent decades of her life learning about geology, Kari herself believing that she has a mastery over the subject.

Species:
Dragon-kin: A race of overly large reptilian beings that have been apex predators in the wild areas and mountains of  Kepler-17x. When first discovered by humans the Earth-borne thought they were actually dragons, hence the given name. The native inhabitants obviously didn't speak Human and their own name for themselves is such a mess that translators can't actually say figure it out. Until humans came the race was still very tribal and a show of force is what made them peaceful, after all humans were smaller. Edible. The species is also not nearly as plentiful as the normal races due to harsh practices. Laying eggs in the desert and leaving the young to fend for themselves until they're able to find a tribe to join in the mountains. This method prevented the weak and lame from taking resources and allowed diverse mating prospects since it's rare to find your Layer. No one knows exactly how long they live thanks to them killing each other, or falling in off-world combat, long before their scales start to dim.

The earthling arrivals didn't go unnoticed by the Dragon-kin. Sickness came but it wasn't as devastating to them as it was to most other predators of the planet. Their reptilian make-up, and the eating of rotten meat, gave them a severe boost to their immune systems to help keep unnatural sickness down. Afterwards though humans civilized the Dragon-kin, to a degree anyway, after the reptilian people 'made peace'. Which was offering up kills after a hunt. The language barrier was a huge issue that humans fixed pretty readily by setting translators on the reptilian people. Now they're mostly exotic bodyguards or geared up to be soldiers. Still they return to Kepler-17x to continue their laying practices.

Kaze is big, even for a dragon-kin. Standing at eight feet seven inches tall and built like the old worlds strongest men from earth. But with a lot more muscle definition. While he may have wings, he's far to heavy for flight, like most of his species, and really just uses them for fighting, aid in climbing, gliding, and swimming. His are oddly unique, having claw-like fingers instead of the classic wing 'thumb'. His scales are black with a purple sheen in certain lights with purple underbelly plates running from his chin to his tails tip. Given his size, and attachments, normal clothes aren't a thing. He's mostly seen in a red skirt...kilt...thing with a golden border. Or he's clad in metal plates in certain locations. Namely chest, abdomen, fully encased arms, and the fronts of his legs with some weird elastic stuff on the back. He didn't pay attention to what it was.

Facts/Backstory:
Hatched in the desert among other broken old eggs.
Survived the desert despite black coloring, dug in the sands until nightfall.
First successful hunt outside of desert.
Found a tribe in mountains.
Fully trained in ways of combat, mostly instinctual reactions.
Observed humans until he was 'of age'.
Underwent the translator surgery, first to have it in the brain and not as a concealed headset and choker.
Grew more as he stayed with humans for more training. Biggest known dragon-kin.
Discovered smaller weapons to flimsy. Was given bigger ones to use and train with.
Training complete, was offered first assignment as bodyguard.
Was found to excel in combat scenarios and protecting targets.
Received Message and package, it sounded fine and scientists on new planets needed guards.

Weapons:
Archaic Battle Scythe: A rather old looking weapon with some odd features. The long curved blade can collapse and pivots on a hinge to become a large axe. If pivoted the other way it becomes sort of like a pole-sword due to the length of the haft. It's Kaze sized so it's very large.
Punt Gun II: A massive shotgun based off of Earth's old discontinued thirteen foot long mounted shotgun. Like most shotguns that use shot the range is fairly limited and the sheer size of this behemoth limits its usage as well. But it's capable of using a slug and the classic pellet shot rounds for devastating effects within its range. Single round chamber that has the archaic breech loading method.
Aegis: A massive plate of metal with strapping on it to act as a shield. It resembles the ancient tower shield except it's eight feet tall and four feet wide. The edges of the slab of metal are honed down and sharpened while serrated spikes dot the front.


Skills:
Melee Specialist: Hand to hand or various forms of melee weaponry, it's his preferred way of fighting.
Heavy Weapon Specialist: His secondary way of fighting is using large forms of various guns.
Defensive Strategy: He tends to look for the best possible way to defend a position. If he has multiple views he can do a better job of it.
Multi-linguist: The technology allowing him to speak in various languages allows him to understand what others are saying. Mostly because it's translating as they talk into his own language which is nothing but hisses, growls, and oddly enough chirps.
