Asano awoke to the sounds of screams from the neighbors house. His wind up clock read 1;13am. Looking out the window he saw only the darkness. It was the last week of summer, a plane flew overhead followed by the whistle of something they dropped. The sky tuned red. Fire blazed from the center of town but the light was bright enough to send shadows into his home.

Asano threw on his clothes and ran down stairs to catch the front door being smashed in. A person stood in front of him shadowed by the light outside and more screams. "Are you hurt? Are you alone?" It was a girls voice.

"Hello?" she was a girl he recognized from school. She was covered in blood and holding a shovel also covered in blood. Her name was Mitsiko Ashihara.

"No. Whats happened?"

She stepped closer and he could see she was in her pajamas. "No time for questions." She went upstairs and opened his closet. She tossed Asano the shovel. The blood was sticky in his hands. "Get out!"

With out really thinking about it he left the room and shut the door. Mitsiko started to talk to him threw the door but Asanos focus was the growling thing at the bottom of the stairs. It was the neighbor from next house over. He had a knife in its chest and covered in blood. his eyes had a white sheen and his neck had a few deep cuts. "Stay back!" Asano held the shovel in a spear like grip and made a few menacing jabs at the neighbors face. The neighbor lunged forward and caught the tip of the shovel in his mouth to leave his jaw in a downward position adding to Asano's belief the man was dead.

To focused on his neighbor Asano didn't realize Mitsiko was standing next to him shouting. She grabbed the shovel pushing him down. From the floor he watched her give a hard forward thrust shoving the tip deep where the eyes were. She took more steps to drive it deeper and watched it fall down the stairs.

She turned to Asano with a stern look "Idiot! What were you doing? You wanna die?!" she was breathing heavy.

"You're In my school uniform.." The shirt was a little tight and his pants were a little long. She used the tie for her hair to make a pony tail.

"Idiot.. we're fighting for our lives and that's your thought? Don't you see whats happening around us. We need to get out of here hand head for the city! Do you have anything for a weapon?"

Asano got to his feet and thought. "I have some garden tools out back."

"No good. You don't want them to get within arms reach. Come on we're getting outta here. Maybe together we can get to the warehouse at the edge of town." Mitsiko was looking for movement from the corpse at the bottom of the stairs.

"I.. I have a bike around back." Asano tried to focus on everything that happened and calculate a strategy. Asano felt his arm being gripped.

"Idiot, lets go already.." She lead him down the stairs and waited for Asano to get his shoes on. Then they got the bike. "You drive, I'll hold the shovel." Steadying the bike he felt her hand on his shoulder as she climbed on the back of his bicycle. "Lets go."

The pair rode down the street closer to the fires. More of the houses were ablaze the closer they got. A zombie jumped out a second story window only to hit the concrete property wall and crush its skull. The heat was intense as the sound of growling and the breaking of glass was heard by both. They stopped at the corpse of a soldier to see what they might get off him. To Asano's surprise Mitsiko stopped to first say a silent prayer. They found a rifle, one pistol, a combat knife, two mags for each weapon, and a gas mask. The body armor was shot as was the helmet. In the back pack were medical supplies and some military food.

Mitsiko tossed the backpack to Asano. "Here. Don't suppose you have any firearms training?" Asaon shook his head. "Well I've watched a few movies. Lets keep moving. There is bound to be more stuff around." She stood up from the corpse and started to walk down the street. Asano quietly put on the backpack and followed her with his bike.

The air was warmer then it should have been due to the fires. It was hard to get a sense of stillness while the flames created dancing shadows all around the two kids. The fires also made it hard to listen for unwanted attention. Asano stopped in time with Mitsiko at the front of a local garden shop.

"Here, this will have something we can use." She held her shovel, tightening her grip in anticipation. "Wait her and keep a look out. Don't leave the bike alone."

All Asano could do was nod. He wasn't a fighter and had no real special skill to help her. He looked at the building and saw the roof was scorched but for the most part intact. There was a building engulfed two buildings down. She should only have to worry about the dead ones if they were inside. It was impossible to tell. As she cautiously moved through the doorway Asano moved to the side of the building with the bike in tow. Being out in the street didn't seem like a good idea. Leaning against the building the boy crouched down and pulled the bike in front of him for cover. His eyes kept a watch on the street.

She took a breath and moved into the building. No sound, and no bad smells to help her spot danger. Holding the shovel in front of her she made her way down the first isle. The fires outside were casting light and shadow through the windows. It made it difficult to spot movement. Mitsiko went back p the second isle and to the purchase counter by the entrance. The bat under the counter made her smile. Even a boy knew what to do with that.

Staying quiet and hidden he watched the dead shuffle out of homes and into the street. they moved to the fire almost drawn to the light. Maybe it was the heat? Why would the dead need either? Could they even see light with white dead eyes? Whatever the reason he was grateful that they didn't notice him. Asano watched his companion walk out of the shop with a sack and a base ball bat. It was metal and had sports tape on the handle.

She looked pleased with the find. She turned to notice the sky in the east turning a lighter color. "Well, looks like we survived the night. We should find a place to rest. Any ideas?" She tilted her head to the side and gave him a smile. The first time since this night began. Getting to his feet Asano looked into the distance. "They are attracted to the fire we should get some distance." He turned to watch her expression and caught his eyes wander only once.

Catching his gaze her smile faded. Her hair was a mess, her clothes didn't fit, she had blood splatter on her face, and she was sweaty. All that had happened tonight and he still took the time to be a perv. Mitsiko clenched the shovel in her hand tighter. "Then we should head to the coast. It looks like they are moving inland. Maybe we could find a boat or something. Travel along the coast." She moved to the back of the bike and waited for Asano to follow her lead.

Steadying the bike he put one foot on the peddle, waiting for her to climb on. She kept on hand on the shovel and on hand on his shoulder. The sack made it harder to balance so Mitsiko slid the shovel between the sack and her back with the metal pointing up. It didn't help her balance. "Sigh.." She leaned over his shoulder. "Don't get any ideas. It's just for balance." She put both hands on his shoulders and stood on the wheel bars. The sack forced her to lean forward more.

Asano rose to put his weight on the peddle. It was harder for him. He wasn't use to this much effort. Heading west away from the fire and the town they rode to the coast staying on the street they saw no cars. Everything was quiet. He was tired, He wasn't sure how long he had rode for but the morning was fast upon them. "I gotta stop." He rolled to the side of the road and put his foot down for balance.

"We only went three miles." She got off the bike. "He was just a kid. Probably never went further then this in his life." Mitsiko thought. "Fine, whatever. We'll switch here." She handed the sack over to Asano and took the bike. He looked tired an ridiculously small with the sack on him. The shovel handle almost touched the ground behind him. "Get on." She didn't look back.

Putting his hands on her shoulders his face felt really warm. Misiko was soft, really soft! She was older so she peddled faster. Down the road to the docks. It would be hard to get attacked by the undead at sea. As long as the theory held true that zombies couldn't swim. Then from there they could figure out where to go. May be a densely populated area would be bad, she became frustrated and peddled faster. There was a zombie that had been hit by a car in the road she was going too fast to swerve. the top half of the body was on the right side of the road Misiko shouted, "Hang on!" The zombie reached out getting his arm caught in the spokes! It ripped off whipping it up to the frame. They were launched into the air over the steep shoulder.

She landed in the bushes cutting up her legs and face. As she looked around for the boy she heard a tear and a snap Her eyes wide as she looked up at the falling Asano. She put her arms out as if to magically stop him from falling. It didn't work she hear the shovel blade strike the earth close by. Really close, it was just to the left of her face. It pinned some of her hair. Misiko couldn't move her head. She felt the groan of Asano, Between her leg!! "Get off me!! Pervert!"

Asano shot up which put his butt right in her face! "I didn't mean to! I'm sorry!!" He felt a sharp pain in his left cheek forcing him to leap frog off her. "Ouch!! What the hell I didn't mean to!" Her shook her fist in the air.Still pinned to the ground by her hair.

"Shut it before you get every zombie on the island to notice us and help me!!!" Mad and embarrassed sh waited on the damp ground. Watching him come over and pull the shovel from the ground he smiled looking proud. She punched him in the shin. "Idiot!" Getting to her feet looking up at the street ledge. It was a good eight feet and a better chance the bike was all bent. It was too dark to find the bag. "Forget it, lets go."

They walked through the woods still heading to the coast. "I'm really tired. Can't we take a break please?" Asano whined to her. She stopped in front of him turned and sneered.

"Sure sport you rest here and get eaten by zombie. You're only slowing me down anyway." she saw the tears well up and stream down his face. He looked so lost and sad. It nearly made her cry too. "Ah, She knelt down here climb on." Gathering his legs she walked through the dark woods toward the sound of the ocean. A growl caused her to get low to the ground. She looked around and couldn't see anything. The shovel in her hands gave her courage. A figure stumbled out of the woods. it had only half a face. The other half looked chewed off. She used her legs and came strait up into the underside of its jaw. It fell back leaving the jaw bone on the end of the shovel. "Did you see that?" she whispered. She looked back. He was sleeping?! Idiot. She kept going. There was a clearing ahead and the clouds finally parted letting some moon light shine down on the beach. To the left she saw the lights of the docks. it was four miles out. the lights were so tiny! she had walked diagonally away from them! A tear fell from her face.

she started to walk in the sand. Each step felt like a half step. She growled and moved closer to the surf where the sand was more compact. She got closer and heard snarling from the woods that quickened her pace a few times. When she finally got there and climbed the wooden steps she saw them. Two other girls her age fighting a half a dozen undead. She gave it her last bit of strength. Charging into the fight getting a hit on one from the back of its head before the other two noticed she was there. She was tired and swung wildly. The tip of the shovel flashed in the light of the docks. It caught the attention of one of the two girls.

"Look Yui!" the girl nodded in Misiko direction. Yui nodded.

"We got this! Yui said confidently. She had black hair in a braid down her back. Wearing A kendoji! A single strike she came down with her staff into the head on the zombie to the far right. it's head exploded and fell to the ground. The splatter got her in the face and hair. "Gross!"

The other girl had a spear! Wearing a dress and purple streaks in her hair. She thrusted into the face of another dropping it instantly! Some of the handle had chew marks and it was splattered in blood on both ends. she jammed the wooden end into the mouth of one zombie to her left his arms outstretched trying to tear her apart. Misiko caught the signal from the spear girl and shifted the shovel in her hands swinging down with the edge of the blade dropping the zombie. They finish off the others and stood there facing each other smiling. they notice Asano when he yawned and looked around. The three girls laughed.

The boat was ready and the crew stood on the deck looking at the two new faces. The older boy with a smile and a ripped shirt stood next to a white haired kid with a stern expression. "Great more baggage?" She said in an adult tone.

"Ease up Ruyo, Sheesh they did just help us out. Not like you were doing anything." The purple haired girl was waving her hand at the kid as she talked.

"I was checking the condition of the boat and seeing about what we would need for supplies. In case you forgot I'm the only one that knows how to sail here." Ruyo stuck out her tongue.

"Well ladies... We need to go, the fire will draw more of them away and give us a little breathing room for tonight." The guy noticed Asano and blushed. "My, what's this sleeping prince?" He ran his hand through his own hair. Giving a charming smile unaware the boy was sleeping.

"Save it, he's just a kid perv." Mitsiko looked away after she realized she was being motherly. "I'm Mitsiko Maeda. This here is Asano. I saved him from his house. He, ...was my neighbor." She looked away shyly. Not inviting any further questions.

"We can use all the help we can get. Get on board and stow the kid in the boys room. WE need supplies but first we need a good rest off the coast for a bit. Then we can make our round of introductions and get this group organized." Yui motioned for them to come aboard as she gathered the last line from the docks. She hopped aboard as Ruyo turned on the engine sending the boat slowly into reverse. As the boat was clearing the dock Mitsiko went below. The boat was pretty big. At least 100ft long with a double mast. The inside was pretty spacious, She couldn't help but be impressed. Making her way to the lower deck she saw Hanzo walking up the hall.

"Hi again. Here the rooms are here and here. Guys got the short straw since there are only two and more girls." He opened the door to the guys side and a single bunk. It was small but not by much. She laid Asano on the bed and turned to walk out. "Excuse me, I have to report to Ruyo." He made his way past he in the tight hall. She took half a step to the girls door stopping for a sec to brace herself for whatever her new home looked like. The door opened and she saw her room for only a second. Her face turned bright red as Akana stood there with a curious look and in her panties. "Uh..."

Akana gave a devious smile as she just stood there, turning her attention to the the shirt in her hands. She put her head in first and covered her body. Come in already if you're tired too. I was going to get some sleep before our next move. It's pretty tight in hee but stay away from Ruyo, she's mine." Giving a playful wink at Misiko before sliding onto the bed and pulling up some of the covers. Misiko sighed before shutting the door behind her and taking off her shoes. It was going to be a long day and she had enough of the night. The boat barely rocked being so big and the sound of the water outside put her to sleep fast.

Asano laid there trying to fight sleep but his eyes slid under the lids and the darkness took him. His nightmare was of fire, blood, and death. He awoke and sat up in the bed covered in sweat, breathing shallow, and fast. The room was dark and the boat was definitely moving now. Getting to his feet proved to be a little trickier than normal. "Sniff, sniff...sigh." He wondered, maybe there was a bathroom on this boat and a shower. Not that he had anything to change into that was clean.

Stepping outside into the hall Asano saw there was a short line to the bathroom. There was Mitsiko, another girl and a guy with a big smile. "H-hi.." Asano said rubbing his hands together nervously while looking down at the floor.

"HEY!" The guy smiled and waved at him. "You're awake! Man I thought you were gonna sleep forever and need a kiss or something." He winked which made Asano even more nervous.

The white haired girl stepped in between them wearing a mans button shirt. Her cool demeanor and mono voice put Asano back at ease a bit. "I'm Ruyo Takabi. The chatty one is Hanzo Tanaka..." The door opened and another girl stepped out She had a boys shirt, boots, and a pink streak in her hair. Seeing Asano her eyes lit up! She walked forward with her hips swaying and stepped right in front of Ruyo. In the distance Asano saw Mitsiko give a side glance his way before shutting the bathroom door.

"Hi! So good to have another guy on the trip! Even if you're just a kid." She gave him a big hug. Whispering into his ear, "Watch out for Hanzo, unless you like boys. I'm Akana Ichi. Don't tell anyone but I think your super cute!" She gave him a soft kiss on the cheek before stepping away with a wave as she walked off. "It's nice to meet you."

Asano just stood there frozen with a flush face. He saw that Ruyo had turned around and was now in front of the door while Hanzo was looking at him intently. "Dont mind Akana she is a little off. It's nice to meet you." He leaned in really close. "This boat is mostly girls so it's nice to have another guy around.." He tooks a sniff and a step back. "Wow here you need to go next, I'll be back with some clothes for you that outfit is done.." Hanzo walked off the the second door to the right, but not before flashing Asano a smile.

Asano stood there kinda stunned and then just shook his head and waited in line with Ruyo. "Dont get any ideas.." She said not even turning around to talk with him. Just then the door opened and Mitsiko walked out giving him another side glance before returning to her room. Her hair was wet and she was in different clothes. The shutting of both the room door and the bathroom door stopped him from staring at Mitsiko. He sighed as he waited by the door.

Asano heard the door and foot steps toward him. "Hey, I'm pretty sure these will be a bit big but their clean." Hanzo held out the shirt and pants.

"Thank you." Asano gave a slight bow. As Asano stood back up he saw a blush on Hanzo's face before walking back to his room. The sound of running water behind him stopped and soon it was his turn. Ruyo stepped out in a towel and wet hair. She didn't even look at him as she walked past. Asano walked in and shut the door.

On deck the sky was turning from a dark blue to a light one on her right side. Yui was at the helm and thankful for calm seas through the night. Being at sea meant no dead and after yesterday she was grateful for the rest. Her training in the art of Kendo really paid off. Her family sent her away to help her focus on her studies. Now she would return to her family and everything would be fine. Hanzo showed up smiling as always. He was cute but...

"Hey ready to take a break? The two new kids are up and about. They seem like good people so go easy on them. Hey don't get any ideas I called dibs on the cutie!" As she turned around to protest she could see him smiling at her implying the joke. She stopped off and down the stairs.

"Jerk..." She mumbled as she made her way to the bathroom. It was silent so she opened the door. "What the hell?!" She slammed the door shut red faced and looking down at the floor. So caught up in her embarrassment to even hear the apology from Asano. Why was her heart racing so fast?! Why did it bother her so?! Why was she still able to see him? She had stood there through the apology and as he rushed past her up the stairs to the top deck. She walked into the bathroom in a daze as she finally looked up at the mirror over the tiny sink. her face was still flush. She turned on the water grateful it was cold.

As Asano reached the top deck he briefly looked back over his shoulder before looking about. The ocean was everywhere and Hanzo was at the helm. looking about Asano saw the two other girls and Mitsiko. He walked up to her and bowed deeply. "Thanks you for,"

"It's fine, no need for thanking me. We saved each other." She didn't even look at him before walking off.

Asano looked about the boat before walking up to Hanzo. "Hey. Thanks again for the clothes. Where are we?"

"You're welcome. I'm glad you could make them work. Well I'm not really sure. I'm not a sailor. Ruyo is and It's her families boat. But she is looking at the charts over there with Mitsiko. That's her name right?" Asano nodded. Hanzo was shirtless by mid day and wore slacks with no shoes. This made Asano want to take off his shoes too.

He just stared at her before walking up. Keeping quiet he listened to them trying o figure out where they were and how much further they had to go. "We're drifting off course by five degrees and we will reach japan by tonight if we pick up more speed."

"How do you know that?!" asked Ruyo. She looked up at him with doubt.

"Well given the shadow of the sun on the mast I can see the boat is off slightly. So we need to turn slightly left and pick up speed before the ocean current takes us further off course. I'm good at math and geometry. You're going North by that compass but the degrees are wrong."

Ruyo felt herself become jealous of this kid. She wanted to hit him. She could see there was no intent in him to make her feel stupid but that smile just made her feel... weak. She looked away. "Hanzo, turn the wheel to the left a quarter turn. Mitsiko you and I will open some more sails to pick ups some speed." Ruyo was wearing a skirt and shirt from a school uniform it was still clean. Mitsiko was no longer in his shirt but she kept the tie for her hair, his pants, and dress shoes.

As they went off the do that Asano went to the map and looked at it some more as the mast shadow moved. The boat pick up some speed with the unfurling of the rest of the sails. If the wind held they should see landfall just as night fell. He was lost in thought to see the others come up on deck. Soon the commotion of them talking made him take notice. The shirt was a regular T shirt that was a little short and showed off the pants waist band. Yui had also changed from the keno uniform to a button down shirt and slacks. Akana was in a skirt and button down school shirt tied in a knot to expose her waist. She had a small gold earring that hung from her belly button. Akana gave him a wink as their eyes met, which made Asano look away.

By mid day the wind died and the sails hung limp by the string and posts. The boat had no engine and the the current would take them off course by a day. "We should drop anchor until the wind picks back up." Ruyo nodded in agreement with Asano though her face grew flush once more. She hit the lever to drop both anchors. The sun was warm on his face and the sky was clear and blue. Ruyo told Hanzo to take a break soon the others went below to get water, make lunch, and only she and Asano were left on deck. "Asano... What were your grades in school?" She hoped he was just average a fluke of her being alone on the ocean and not more than that.

Smiling enjoying the sun. "My parents had me enrolled in the accelerated honors program at school Tokyo U. I tested and was given a full scholarship. I was in my senior year when all this broke out." He looked in her direction as the question feel from his head. She was looking down at him with hair covering her eyes.

"You're Asano Takeshi?! The boy that was one of the few to receive not just a scholarship but also one of the elite few that advanced so fast! You're like a prodigy and just happen to be on the same boat as I am during all of this?!" Ruyo kicked his arm before going down below. She moved faster until she entered her room and shut the door. She tossed herself onto the bed and buried her face into a pillow. It was him, HIM! The person she had always followed and watched through the news and articles. Ruyo idolized him! And he was here!! Her parents wanted him more than her they pushed her to excel in her studies yet they wanted him... It wasn't fair.

As the sun started to drift west and began its descent. The winds finally began to pick up. Gently at first filling the sails more and more until the boat lurched forward bringing more of the crew to the top deck with smiles. The boat was moving once more and picking up speed. Ruyo took to the top first regaining her spot at the helm Asano went below for some water and a snack. Hanzo went to the side an began to lift the anchor. They would be in sight of the main land by morning and away from the nightmare in Okinawa. Asano did a few calculations before saying anything. "We're ding good! If the wind holds we'll make Japan by sunrise." The crew cheered!

The water was calm and the boat cut through the water easy enough with out the fight of chop from the water. Asano was trying not to think of Okinawa or what might be still there but the military could take care of it.

Ruyo also tried to focus on her position and keeping the boat on course. Still, she found herself looking at Asano more than once. Hanzo walked up next to her, "He's really something if those calculations are good. You think he is that smart? I read about him in the paper but I never thought I'd cross a path he was walking. Some prodigy and a screw up like me. What are the odds?" Placing an arm around Ruyo's shoulders. Ruyo gave him a stern stare to which Hanzo smiled. "You're cute when your angry."

Akana was standing next the the mast as she was not that useful on a boat or anywhere really. but she had made it and it made her feel grateful and a little ashamed. That is until she thought that if she made it, then surely more would have too, right? She looked at the others and glad they were together. The main thing she hated was being alone. She wrapped an arm around herself while still holding onto the mast.

Mitsiko was just sitting there holding her knees to her chest with her back against the mast. Facing the front of the boat as the wind softly caught her hair. She had a million questions and she was confused about what happened. Not that any of it showed. She just wanted to know the government was warned and that everything on that island would be set right. All her hopes rested on the horizon that was getting darker by the minute.

Yui however was standing on the deck closer to the wheel and the other two her face stone as she looked out over the water. She would have to return home. To her father that sent her to learn how to survive isolation and hardship. She had been the daughter of a government official and there was nowhere on the main land her last name would not have influenced her teachers. So she was sent away. no special treatment for her. Yui would be a strong woman for her father and the family name. She just wanted a kind word and her hopes of receiving one after surviving a zombie island the odds were finally looking fair. She would get a place at his side and could stay home.

All of the people to escape this crew was the least likely to have done this much against the odds. The boat kept the speed through the night. Mitsiko was the one to stand when she saw it. "Land!!!" She turned to see the ones still on the deck. She saw Hanzo's face light up as he rushed below deck to tell the others. Mitsiko sighed as she thought to herself, finally they would be safe.

"We made it!" Asano cheered! With a fist in the air. Mitsiko got to her feet and smiled looking at the others as
her heart felt lighter than ever since this whole thing began. There would be safety for all of them.

Yui wasn't smiling but in her heart she felt the hope swell with her companions cheers and excitement!

Akana looked at Mitsiko sharing in her silent optimism. The though of solid land and no more rocking was the secrete hope of her stomach.

Ryo held the wheel and gave a shy smile at the thought to be safe again. She wanted answers and she didn't. Whatever happened there had to be someone to hold accountable. There was too much death for nothing. Everyone dstopped as a sound in the distance grew louder. In less then a minute they hear it, A helicopter! They shouted and waved at first...

A helicopter came at them fast as it poured smoke from the top! It was American and the were getting closer! The shy was still dark but turning blue. At first everyone was smiling but as an explosion shout out from the top of the craft the whole thing spun out of control! The flames grew both on top and inside the helicopter! One person covered in flames jumped only to get caught be the tail end of the craft and shredded. Some of the blood hit the sail and the craft dove over head to the sea. Impacting the water sent a wave to the boast nearly turning it on its side! Some grabbed the mast screaming as Ryo held the wheel. Hanzo slammed into a wall below getting some food from the galley. The boat shifted with the weight of the hull and rocked violently back and forth! They screamed and hung on to the closest part of the boat for their life! Parts of the boats rigging snapped free and swung wildly Catching Mitsiko in the chest and carrying her off her feet as the mast swung free! She could barely breath and heard a loud wet crack on the impact. Even Akana heard it but she had barely enough time to duck! The boat continued to rock for a few minutes until the waves from the chopper were past them. They all looked at each other Asano rushed to Mitsiko as she slid off the main mast onto the deck with a thud. She had blood on her lips and wasn't conscious. "Help some one help!"

The other gathered as their hearts sank. Hanzo rushed forward and knelt down he checked for a pulse, then her breath. He had some CPR training wanting to be a paramedic but settled for a CPR certificate. The urgency in his actions moving one from the other until Hanzo placed one hand on top of the other and both over Mitsiko'a chest. With the first compression a small pool of blood gushed out of her mouth and her head listed to one side spilling more of the crimson fluid. Hanzo turned his head to puke from the sight. The same time Ruyo and Akana screamed together! Mitsiko was dead. The Large arm of the center mast had crushed her chest. Another life cut short as the sun rose in the sky.

Asano was silent. Kneeling beside Mitsiko opposite of Hanzo. No one really knew each other but to die so naturally scared them more than the dead. Breathing quickly after the scream the two, Ruyo and Akana were in a state of disbelief and shock. Hanzo was recovering trying to get his stomach under control. Yui just stood there in shock but hiding it a little better than the rest. The scene frozen from the rest of the world seeming to stretch on forever.

The moment broke free when Asano stood up. "We have to keep going. Yui hold the wheel. Hanzo get a blanket or a sheet, something to cover her." Asano stopped to look at the other staring at him silently. Asano never noticed he was the only one with tears streaming from his face. Even though his voice was steady and he was on his feet his eyes burst streaming tears one after the other. He took a second to try and wipe them away only to notice they were not done. The boy slumped his head forward and knelt down to Mitsiko's side holding her hand. The others moved slowly giving backwards glance at Asano.

((Narrator))The boat rocked on the waves as the crew stood there. Each coming face to face in a death as natural as it was sudden offered no respite for the travelers from Okinawa. Here off the coast of Japan they were more shocked that someone died of an accident then the current zombie horror that was sweeping the land. The only thing they could do was witness the passing of a comrade this night as they fought to live for each other and survive this catastrophe. Surely there had to be some good left some safe harbor they could call home and live out the current situation. Time would be their judge, jury, and perhaps, their salvation. They had Mitsiko wrapped in a sheet and tied off with rope. Saying nothing as they let her sink into the darkness of the water.

"We have to get to the main land and the authorities. There is no other way." Asano looked on at the others.

"Fine." Hanzo walked to the anchor and started to raise it from the depths. The others all took up positions to sail the boat to the shore. Letting it run aground. Then using ropes to make it onto the beach the group was silent as they moved into the country. It would be morning soon and they wanted to live to see it.

Moving through the woods Hanzo and Akana took point. They had some wooden oars and the others had poles and pins from the boat. They moved north keeping the sound of the ocean to the right as they moved.

"With a little luck we'll see the lights of Ibusukii before the sun comes up." Hanzo whispered.

"That's if it's still there." Ruyo replied looking at him with deadly seriousness. "We might have drifted off and be at another peninsula. We don't know where we really landed."

"From the tidal drift and the time to get to land we might not be on Japan but Amami instead." Asano said looking at the dark coast. "If it were Japan we would see some city lights. This is too dark."

"Good. If it is Amami We can get to the airport. The island might not be infected yet." Hanzo looked onward towards the beach head. "We have to try. Maybe take the boat up the coast to have a getaway plan. We can restock food and water and make it to Japan."

"I want to believe that. I think going up the coast is the safest route." Ruyo stood by the wheel. "We should get moving." The rest of the group agreed with their eyes looking at the dark coast and others at the blood on the deck. They were too awake to rest now. Securing the rigging and setting sail the boat moved up the coast almost silently save the creaking deck and the waves rapping against the hull. The sun was just about to crest the blue sky to show more of the inland area and what they hoped would be safe.
