“I actually have two for you to pick from. One is giving confession to prisoners before I eat them. The other is working with Nadia as her assistant. Both come with their own problems. The confession is well you’re pretty much giving them last rights before they die. While the other you need to have a firm grasp on magic. Along with able to run various errands around the city,” Asran said with a shrug. Then paused for a moment as he thought a bit more. “Well technically that only leaves one job that you can do. Which is working with prisoners. Not great I know, but it’s all I could really think of.”

He crossed his arms then looked to Ayrie. “It’s a job I trust you with. Meaning I trust you not to poison me. Something I’m not going to be giving to those damned priests. I would sooner kill them, and throw them into the gulf.”

"Well, I suppose that is something I could do..." Ayrie said. "It can't be during something like the festival. I can't say I won't feel something for these prisoners, and during something like that I can't promise I wouldn't try to stop you from harming them."

She paused looking at him closely. He knew this, but had offered her the job anyway, trusting she wouldn't harm him. "I would never try to poison you though, it's just not in my nature. Though I do wish I were more versed in magics so that I could help Nadia. That seems like a far more pleasant job."

Ayrie knew that in all the city she was probably the best one for this particular duty, having been trained her entire life for just that situation. She wasn't sure that she could speak to these sacrifices and then let them be eaten though, as it didn't take a lot of personal connection for her to feel protective of people.

Asran thought about it a bit more. “Then maybe this isn’t the job for you. After all I’m gonna need to devour them sooner than the festival. So I won’t go insane with hunger. I can’t last more than a month with ought eating. If you stood in my way I couldn’t guarantee your safety,” Asran said. He looked apologetic at Ayrie for his nature. It was not something that could be helped. “Your job is confession, and last rights. Not stopping me from eating Ayrie,” he said.

"I understand, it's just that it's such an eerie thing for me to watch, and if I know the person I wouldn't be able to. So as long as I do not have to watch, I will do this for you." She said. "I wouldn't want you to get so hungry you hurt innocent people."

Ayrie wasn't sure how she would handle seeing people she knew eaten by Asran in his demonic form. She had nearly been sick the first time, although the second time she had been so worried about him she hadn't paid much mind to what the wraith was doing for him.

“I can ensure you’re not there for that. I’ll have someone come in before me, and escort you away,” Asran said. He knew that there was a chance she might get too attached to some of the convicts. Those were the ones he’d devour first. He didn’t want them trying to steal Ayrie away from him, or blind her by their lies. Or have her plead with him to release them as that was just not happening.

"Okay, then I'll do it. Just let me know where to go and when to start." Ayrie said with a half-smile. It wasn't an exciting job, but it was one that would appease the priests and get her out of the house while they remained.

"As far as the priests, they won't stop me from taking confessions. It's one of the basic tenants of the faith." she said, "I don't know if I can get them to leave, short of requesting new companions from the church, which would be granted as it is my right to get along with who is staying here. For now they are resting, but tomorrow they will likely get out and start to amble around the city."

“If need be I’ll give them a horse, and fully stocked carriage to leave. I don’t want my people killing them. As I’ve said anyone breaking the laws of the city are escorted the the jails. One they’ll most likely break us to insult me. I would rather avoid that,” Asran said. Then leaned his head back against the wall tiredly. He was still exhausted from yesterday. “I’ll escort you over to the jails.” Then pushed off the wall waving for Ayrie to follow him.

They walked past the front desk where the secretaries worked. Some women seeing their boss pass them gave him a hungry look. Which Asran brushed off as old hat. He knew what they wanted was just his body or his power. They didn’t really care for the man behind it all. He walked out the front door holding it open for Ayrie with a smile. Which earned Ayrie the women’s ire due to jealousy. Which earned a glaring glance from Asran.

Once they were out, and away from city hall Asran called a taxi service. He told them to take them to Purgatory Jail. The driver nodded looking a little apprehensive, but drove them there without issue.
When they got to Purgatory the place looked ominous with its immensely high walls. With guard posts patrolled by men in uniform carrying rifles. Crows landing on the wall making sharp cries. “Ugh, my designer seriously went overboard with this place. Then again this place does harbor some of the worst criminals in the world... oh yeah I forgot to mention. I don’t just get criminals from my city. Purgatory is one of the world’s best prisons so cities that can’t handle their more horrendous criminals send them here to me.”

Ayrie felt sorry for him, knowing he was working less than twelve hours after the incident with his curse. He had to be exhausted, but there were so many concerns to deal with, the least of which was finding her a place to work. He had taken time to find her a job, though, and she was grateful to have a way to payback his generosity.

This line of thinking preoccupied her as they walked through the temple, and as such she didn't notice the looks they got as they passed the receptionists. She did smile back at Asran as she went through the door, and dutifully followed him into the taxi. As they pulled up to the jail she couldn't help but think of how, were she a prisoner, the place might suck the life right out of her. As it was she felt a general sad and drowsy mood emanating from the place.

"I've been thinking about what you'd want from me." She said before they headed inside the jail. "I'm still unsure, but I gather it must have something to do with what I offer you that others cannot. The only uncommon thing about me is my power. So, something you need or want must be related to light magic, and since I'm such an agreeable person," she smiled, knowing full well she could be entirely opposite that statement, "you must think I'll help you get it."

She paused, watching him closely. "Am I on the right track?"

“Maybe, maybe not,” Asran said. As he walked inside the prison showing his credentials to the front guards at the gate. They let the two of them inside, and Asran lead Ayrie to a pristine white building. That had a yard where prisoners were allowed to explore, and play on various equipment. Guards were there to ensure none of them got the idea to attack each other. When the prisoners noticed Ayrie they started making catcalls at her. Only to earn Asran’s ire. Every single one of the prisoners that dared to catcall Ayrie he was going to eat first.

'This whole mysterious thing is starting to annoy.' Ayrie thought as she followed Asran inside. He could have at least given her that much. 'Oh well, I'll figure him out.'

Ayrie flinched when the prisoners began catcalling her, but she followed Asran without pausing. She had known coming here would have its trials, this was simply one of them.

“If any of them are too much to handle let me know. So I can get rid of them first,” Asran said looking down at Ayrie. There was a deep concern written on his face, and a good deal of apprehension. They walked inside to see a front desk behind a bulletproof glass. “Hey mayor, you’re here with that chick that’s gonna take confessionals right,” the guard said behind the desk. “Yeah, and her names Ayrie not chick. Mind your manners.” “Ah alright, sorry miss Ayrie. Let me get you all set up with a guest credentials. It will take a few days to get your permanent ones made,” the gaurs said. He then went to work behind the desk, and then slid a plastic card from out a slot under the glass. Which Asran took, and handed to Ayrie.

Ayrie appreciated Asran's concern, she felt she could handle it, it would just take time to get used to. When he handed her the plastic card she stared at it, then put it in a hidden pocket on her dress.

"Thank you." She said simply. She felt nervous, as if things were moving too quickly, but she took a moment to take a deep breath and center herself. Squaring her shoulders and trying to produce an air of confidence out of her nerves.

Asran smiled a little, and leaned in to whisper. “It’s okay to be nervous Ayrie. Hell I'm nervous for you,” he said. Then pat her on the back gently before leading her down the hallway where a iron cast barred door blocked the path. A guard waited there, and Asran showed Ayrie how to swipe her card to open the gate. When they were through Asran lead her to a quiet office that was empty save for a desk. The office had a view of the outside bay. Along with a holy symbol resembling what Ayrie had on the wall. Though it had zero power to it which Asran made sure of. Otherwise, he wouldn’t be able to visit her at work. “Decorate this place however you’d like. The symbol was a gift from me. So don’t worry it’s got no real power to it. It’s mostly just for decoration.”

"That was nice of you." Ayrie said, running her fingers over the familiar symbol. It had always reminded her of a flower, the way the lines began in the middle and worked their way out like petals. "I think I can make this work..."

She twirled around the room, picturing what she'd like to add to it. Not looking where she was going she bumped into Asran, catching herself on his shirt sleeve.

"Oh! I'm sorry." She blushed.

Asran held Ayrie gently when she bumped into him. His heart was racing a bit as he could smell her soap mixed with her natural scent. “I’m fine, are you okay? Didn’t hurt anything falling for. I mean into me,” he asked. He blushed as he had inadvertently tried making a really bad pun.

"I'm okay..." Ayrie said, not moving away. This feeling was dangerous, and it made her heart beat fast. She had been through so much the last couple days, it was nice to just be close to someone. The fact that that someone happened to be Asran just felt better. "I mean I feel like an idiot but I'm okay."

Asran smirked, and gently pat Ayrie in the shoulders. He needed to back off a step before things became serious. ‘I mean come on. We’ve barely known each other for a week if even that.’ This overly odd attraction he felt towards her was getting to be too much, much to much. “Well anyways, I’m gonna get going I’ve got stuff to do and some rest to catch up on, You know how it goes running a city,” he said quickly barely taking any breaths as he spoke. Then carefully, but quickly excused himself fleeing out the door.

'I'm such an idiot.' Ayrie thought to herself watching Asran leave. 'Of course I can't expect him to flirt with me, no matter what this strange attraction feels like to me. I'm nobody.'

She sighed and moved to the desk, sitting in the chair and propping her feet on the desk. She spent a few moments staring out the window, then got up and decided to start planning her decorations. She didn't know when she would be needed, but she assumed she would get some sort of sheet that told her who was next in line. After spending a few minutes imagining her office, she stepped out and went to find someone to tell her what was next.

Asran practically ran all the way back to his office. When he collapsed in his chair he was panting, and then slammed his head into the desk. “God I’m such an idiot,” he said. Someone across from him started giggling rather loudly. “yes comrade Gluttony I’d have to agree with that,” a familiar female demonic voice said. They had a slight Russian accent that was enough to hear it, but also understand what they said. “Wrath... What the hell are you doing here,” he said moving his head to look up at the woman sitting across from him. She was wearing leather bikers attire with a red tube top, and a pair of aviator sunglasses in her jackets breast pocket. She had a leather hat with a chain over the rim, atop windswept blond hair. “What I can’t visit a friend,” she asked shrugging. “Not when you didn’t announce you were coming. So who are you hiding from this time?” The woman looked away, “why do I have to be hiding from someone. I could just genuinely want to see you.” Asran very visibly rolled his eyes at the demon lord across from him. “Oh please, give me a little more credit than that,” he said.

Lady Wrath looked away toying with her hands nervously. “To be honest comrade Pride is worried about you. He sent me here to check on you see if you are okay. The anniversary is coming up after all.” Asran looked away from wrath after raising his head off his desk to lean back in his chair. “I’m fine,” he said firmly. “You don’t seem fine, you’ve let priests into your kingdom. Let them shamble around unimpeded even helping them. Did you forget what,” Wrath stopped herself from finishing that sentence. As the look Asran gave her was one she envied as the pure rage on his face made even her frightened.

“I’m sorry,” she said. Asran let out a deep sighing breath as he rubbed at his forehead. “I’m fine Wrath, you don’t need to worry so much,” he said. Wrath just nodded, “I know you say you are. But, until I can make sure I am staying here. Along with filling a complete report for Pride to be satisfied with as well.” Asran was tired very tired so he didn’t bother arguing. Especially since he knew Wrath loved to argue, “How long do you think it’ll be?” Wrath just shrugged as even she wasn’t sure. “Great... I’ll set you up in the guest house I have,” he said shutting his eyes.

“Don’t worry so much Asran, things will be over before you know it. Plus I can help you take out those priests. No need to thank me,” she said. “Zotova don’t even think about it. You’ll only cause me trouble if you do that. I have things handled,” he snapped. Zotova just let out an amused purr only to earn a hissing growl back from Asran. “Don’t Zotova, you know I’m stronger than you. Don’t make me hurt you,” He said still growling. Only for Zotova to boop him on the nose with a finger. “Not as weakened as you are right now. It’d be like drowning a sack of kittens to beat you as you are. You keep refusing to eat your staple food. Hmm, maybe feeding you those priests will do you some good. Starting with that priestess, I’m sure with how long you’ve been around her. The thoughts crossed your mind a few dozen times alrea,” Zotova was interrupted by Asran slamming his fists into his desk. Making the whole thing tremble. “Don’t, even, think, about, it,” Asran said his eyes glowing.

Ayrie was settled into what seemed like an interrogation room. It was the only place safe enough for her to meet with the prisoners on her list today, as they were some of the worst. Her yellow dress stood out starkly against the grey walls of the room, making her look like a daffodil in a dark cave. She had seen three so far, all to the same end- none of them wanted to confess or have their last rights. They wanted to frighten her, as a result her determination was waning as she asked for the last prisoner of the day to be brought to her.

The next man was sent in in chains, wearing a browm jumpsuit with numbers printed on it. His face gave her the worst impression, his eyes were dark brown with circles beneath, and there were scars on his face.

"Hello... Samuel." Ayrie said, looking at her sheet. "My name is Ayrie. I'm here to offer a place for safe confession, and if you'd like final rights."

The man just smiled at her, his eyes hungry and crazed. "Helllo Ayyyrie." He drawled.

"Please, have a seat. Guard, you may wait outside, with the door open please." Ayrie said brightly, trying not to allow the man to get under her skin. He just smiled wider, almost as if this was exactly what he wanted. The guard, smarter than the average muscle for hire, sat the man down and shackled him to the chair.

"You look like a nice lady. What are you doing here?" Samuel asked, his smile never leaving his face.

"I told you. Confessions and last rights. Is there anything you'd like to talk about? Any regrets you have?" She was still trying to project an air of aloof kindness.

"I regret not taking a woman like you to my shack." He said, his voice rising as he spoke. "I regret allowing the last one to live long enough to escape and tattle on me! I regret..."

"Guard!" Ayrie shouted. Her heart was beating fast as the man stared at her, still shouting his regrets at her as she stood and backed away.

It took too long for the guard to arrive, it felt like ages to Ayrie. He finally did and got the man unshackled from the chair and pulled him from the room, still shouting obscenities at her.

"Ohh my god..." Ayrie whispered, taking a gasping breath. She stood there for some time, composing her emotions as best as she could. When she was finally able to move she went straight to her office, grabbed her things, and bee lined for the exit to the prison. She swiped her card to leave and gave the guard a teary smile as she left, practically running outside to the taxi that was waiting for her.
