Sylvia sighed in relief at Shortfang's answer. She nodded in agreement at his statement about being careful. She then looked to Buddy as he finally wrote in his journal. She could see that he was adamant about staying up front. She chuckled and answered "Alright, Bud. You're up front. I think after that last battle, we've lost our chance for stealth anyways," She then looked to Pylia to see that she found some items from the Trog body.

She answered Pylia's suggestion and addressed her friends, "That sounds like a great idea. I'm ready to continue onwards if you guys are," She would follow Buddy if he was ready to continue onwards.

With everyone patched up, Buddy took the lead down the tunnel. Shortfang quickly fixed up his crossbow, as the slime's acid had snapped the string, and Pylia dismissed her magic flying sword as they went further into the sewers. The rooms they were going into were bigger now, though not by munch, and the smell wasn't quite as rank as the previous areas. You could hear the sound of rushing water ahead. Eventually the smaller tunnels lead to a much larger room, and what was here was quite a sight.

This place hardly looked like it belonged in a sewer, as it was practically a hall of it's own. Some sort of waterway, it has seen better days. More so since right now it looked like a terrible battlefield. On one side behind crude wood and stone barricades were kobolds slinging rocks and throwing anything they had on hand at a bunch of troglodyes, lizard men like creatures but unnaturally pale flesh, wearing bloodred warpaint and little else. The only ones on the ground stopping them was two kobolds armed with shields and short swords, but they also rode upon two giant crocodiles. Still they were heavily outnumbered and they were very wounded despite how much damage they were doing to the trogs. Shortfang shouted in fury. "Sewer Dragons! Trogs attack family!" Buddy raised his hand to quiet Shortfang. Fortunately it didn't seem like the trogs heard due to the sounds of combat.

A quick count would show that there were at least twelve trogs here, most of them engaged with the kobolds on the ground. Of the kobolds there were six, two fighting among the trogs, four trying to attack with stones and other weapons. The party itself was a good distance away from the main fighting, and upon closer inspection there was still pools of raw sewage that would not only slow down your movement, but might just make you sick. Counting out on her fingers Pylia looked grim. "I still have a few spells. Let's be ready for anything, everyone." She gave a quiet prayer to bless everyone as Shortfang looked at you. "What now boss? Charge yeah?" Buddy gripped his axe, ready for anything.

Sylvia widened her eyes at the sight of the battlefield in front of them. She looked to Shortfang as he shouted angrily, thankfully his shout didn't get their attention. When Shortfang asked her what to do, she studied the battlefield. While she could use all of her energy to dash to behind the planks and take cover, she doubted that it was going to help her completely. There was hardly any place for them to set up a surprise attack. If anything, the fact that the trogs were distracted by the kobolds now was the best opportunity they have. So it was best not to squander it.

She answered Shortfang, "Yeah. They're distracted, so it's better to try and strike now," She then activated her Satyr Stance and told them, "Let's go!" She then moved forwards and once she was close enough, she threw a throwing knife at one of the troglodytes

The battlefield was already bloodied with the bodies of many trogs, but that didn't seem to perturb the swarm of monsters as they prepared to lunge and swarm the Sewer Dragons. That being said, your knife coming out from nowhere to cut one in the back did cause one to be distracted. All at once the party ran in, ready to fight. Shortfang fired his crossbow right at the trog you were attacking, just as it turned to face you and got a bolt in it's eye for it's trouble. As Shortfang loaded a new bolt Buddy stepped before him and banged on his chest, causing his body to suddenly be covered in a strange crystalline frost. It was as if he was challenging them to come after him. Meanwhile Pylia was right behind you, summoning both a holy fire and her silver sword from above to strike down one of the trogs, doing considerable damage.

With the element of surprise on your side your group was able to do some considerable damage, and you were able to show the Sewer Dragons that you were on their side. Shortfang ran northward to fire another bolt at a northmost trog, landing right into the beast's calf and doing some debilitating damage. But then the northern swarm of trogs all leapt onto the giant crocodile, ripping chunks of flesk and skin out with their jowls and talons. While one of these creatures would be no match for such a beast, a whole swarm of them was able to do some serious damage, causing the crocodile's blood to join the massive puddle of trog gore. Despite this scene of carnage Buddy trudged through the muck towards the midst of the melee, his axe ready to cleave down any trog that was fool enough to face him.

The kobolds, despite being heavily outnumbered, felt confident thanks to the presence of both their Sewer Dragons and the new reinforcements, slinging stones and slashing swords at the trogs to quickly cull their numbers. The crocodiles had no problem slaying the trogs either, even the one that was very bloodied, as they used their mighty maws to rip apart the trogs, or crushed them underneath the force of their massive tails. Many trogs went down in the ensuing counter attack but even after losing so many of their own these trogs knew no fear and continued to attack, with the long trog fighting the southern crocodile jumping onto it's hind leg, biting and ripping flesh out. Pylia moved her sword to try and cut the creature down, summoning her holy fire to smite it as well, though the creature was determined to say the least.

Very quickly the swarm of trogs were cut down, however there was no time to celebrate. You could hear more screeching and the rush of footsteps in the distance, and you wouldn't need magic to know that the reinforcements coming were not more kobolds.

Sylvia runs along the side of sewage river at first, before using the satyr stance to make her way across the disgusting terrain quickly and efficiently. When she reaches the closest trog, she strikes the creature with her quarterstaff before kicking it in its chest. She turns to hear the noises coming their way. It wouldn't be too much of a stretch that the reinforcements that were coming were not kobolds, and it sounds like there are a lot of them coming. She thought of suggesting that the kobolds leave, but with the other trogs alive, there was no doubt that the trogs would have their reinforcements pursue after them. So instead she braced herself to keep fighting.

You rapidly cross the swampy muck, fortunately not getting any of it in your boots as your smashed your staff right across the neck of the trog as it was bucked off by the crocodile. The blow snapped it's neck, but you didn't lose any momentum as you hopped out of the way of the falling corpse, kicking the other trog hanging onto the crocodile with a heel kick. But just as you did so, you'd hear the loud cacophony of monstrous screeching hit the hall. More trogs have arrived, which you can barely make out in the dim lantern light. "More trogs! Get ready everyone!" Shortfang shouted out as he lined up a shot on the trog hanging off the crocodile, shooting a bolt right into it's chest and causing it to fall off. As Shortfang dropped his crossbow and drew out his shortsword he shouted something in draconic which was directed to the kobolds. Good thing too, as the crocodile looked like it was about to take a bite out of you before the kobold riding him managed to direct him to the trogs coming from the other hall. The other kobolds began to scramble away from the center as they also heard and went to respond to the trogs coming from the eastern halls.

Meanwhile Buddy walked right past you towards the last trog in this immediate vicinity. The creature, seeing him, lunged out and tried to attack him. However Buddy simply extended his hand and caught the lizardling in midair, and with a quick twist and a crush snapped the neck to the trog before tossing him onto the ground and walking back towards the swampy area, as he could hear trogs coming from behind. Pylia also heard the trogs coming and ran up to stand alongside Shortfang, calling for her sword to come closer. The silver blade flew right past you, avoiding you even, as it began to spin rapidly like some sort of deadly buzz saw. Pylia readied herself as she could hear the trogs coming. "Get ready! They're coming!"

Away from the group and barely legible through the dim glow of your lantern, you could see more trogs arrive, though due to their distance and having a giant crocodile blocking your line of sight, all you could hear where the panicked screams of the kobolds as the treacherous roars of the trogs running through the muck or climbing over the barricades.

Sylvia could feel herself become a little more nervous as the cries of the trogs got louder. She nodded to Shortfang as she prepared to face the trogs. She was glad that Shortfang had said something to the kobolds, because she had noticed that the crocodile would have taken a bite out of her if the kobold hadn't stopped it. She widened her eyes in slight shock when she saw that Buddy had snapped a trog's neck with ease.

Then she heard it. There were panicked screams coming from the kobolds behind the barricades. She called to her friends, "They're in trouble! Gonna go help!" She then hurried off, even tapping into her ki to help her move faster so that she could reach the kobolds in time before any of the trogs could try and kill them. When she got close enough to one of the threatening trogs, she swung at the trog with her quarterstaff, aiming for the head.

You quickly bound over the barricades, past the kobolds, and land right next to one of the trogs who were poisoned to begin attacking the kobolds. Fortunately before the monster could get a chance, you smash your staff into it's skull, causing it to stagger back. It was at that moment the crocodile, despite his movement's being somewhat marred by the muck he had to crawl through, lunged out and chomped the upper portion of the trog in half, leaving a bloody pair of legs where it stood. The crocodile tried to swipe it's tail at the next nearest trog, however the barricade blocked it's strike. Fortunately, it allowed it's rider a chance to run down the tail, leaping off to stab his sword through the chest of the furthest trog away from you. Thanks to the heroism of both you and the kobold warrior, the kobolds found the strength within themselves to try and fight back as well, a flew slinging stones that struck down the wounded trog, others stabbing their crude stone knives right into the monster before them. One even managed to leap up and stab the beast in the eye. However this would prove to be his downfall.

As the kobold hung from his knife blade, the trog tossed the kobold above him and into his awaiting maw, allowing you to witness the horrible sight of these small creatures fit inside the toad-like mouths of these lizard monsters, and for the unfortunate kobold to get mangled and chewed up in the trog's jaw. It then lashed out to claw at the other kobold who had tried to stab it, though perhaps due to his own skill or fear of what just happened, the kobold was able to avoid getting cut down. The trog then turned to you, a wretched and twisted grin on his face as blood and saliva leaked from his full mouth.

Never had Sylvia been happier to see that a large crocodile was on her side. The sight of just the trog's legs just standing there somewhat unnerved her. She turned back to the fight, and saw the death of one of the kobolds she had been trying to protect. Her eyes widened as she witnessed the trog eat the kobold, like he was nothing more than just a snack. When the trog turned to face her with it's own sick grin, she felt anger well up once more. With a glare she growled at the trog, "You just made a big mistake,"

She then closed the gap between her and the trog, and she clocked the trog's head with the staff first, before going for a roundhouse kick.

Your struck hard and fast. The trog could barely get a claw up to defend himself as your staff crushed his skull, and your kick broke his jaw, causing him to spit out the mangled kobold. The beast staggered trying to remain standing before he fell. Elsewhere, the other kobolds and your allies were able to deal with the remaining trogs, though no one was celebrating. The kobolds at the wall were trying their hardest to bring back their fallen ally while the two crocodile riders stayed on watch. Shortfang, Pylia, and Buddy soon came over, somewhat wounded but alive. "Sylvia! Are you okay?" Pylia asked as Shortfang went over to the wounded Kobold and force fed a goodberry into him. Miraculously, the magic of the berries caused him to sputter to life as the kobolds were snapping his bones back into place. The other kobolds seem happier seeing that somehow, no one died, though they still looked at the others warily, even Shortfang.

Sylvia certainly didn't expect her attacks to cause the trog to spit out the kobold, but thankfully, the trog went down and everything seemed to have quieted down. She watched the kobolds try to bring back their fallen friend, but Sylvia honestly would not be surprised if the kobold was dead already. She looked to her friends as they approached and she answered them, "I'm okay. How about you guys?" She watched as Shortfang fed a goodberry to the fallen kobold, and she was pleasantly surprised to see that the kobold was revived.

She noticed that the kobolds still looked wary when it came to the four of them. She relaxed her stance as though to show that she has no ill intent towards the kobolds. She asked the kobolds, "Are you guys alright?"

The kobolds whispered among themselves in their dragon language. Shortfang quickly explained the situation while Pylia stood near you whispering a rough translation. “He’s telling them were allies here to help, and we just want to know what’s going on. The kobolds say they don’t have enough warriors to fight the trogs, or humans. Now Shortfang is promising that we’ll help them and he needs to see the grey scales, kobold elders, so we can better aid them.” As the kobolds conversed one of them, the one who nearly died, steps in with a shaky but stern look. “I show them grey scale. Come.” The kobold limped towards the big double door while the rest of the kobolds got back into a defensive position.

The double doors were made of some solid and bronze metal. Though there was a thick later of mold, there was no rust, and the doors themselves were too heavy even for Buddy to move. The kobold shouted something in draconic and soon the doors shifted and were raised up. Inside were at least seven more kobolds armed with shields and stone edged swords, ready to fight. However they made way and would allow you and the others to pass through.

The party would go through what seemed to be some sort of shanty town. Small huts made of discarded wood, stone slabs, and covered or patched up with mud and moss. Aside from the warriors at the entrance most of the other kobolds here appeared to be commoners who hide behind their homes, aside from the curious little children, who were barely larger than a puppy. Eventually you reach a stone building that had a large effigy in the form of sharp teeth on top of crocodile skin in the same of a maw. Guarding this house were two kobolds armed with curious looking weapons; they looked like giant fangs, but the way they hold them looked like blades tonfas.

“You! Humies not welcomed here! Why you here huh?” One of them spoke out aggressively. Shortfang interjected sternly however he wasn’t trying to be hostile. “Humies are friends. They help Shortfang, Son of Longtalon of Shadowrun tribe and Skinwalker of Swamp Dragon. We talk to Grey Scales.” One of the guardians seem to recognize the name Skinwalker, however the other guard was unimpressed. “Humie lies! Kobold war with trogs because humies! Now they send assassin to kill Grey Scales!” Pylia seemed on edge and looked to you and whispered. “I can understand their paranoia, but I’d rather not get into a fight here. What could we say to convince them we will help?”

Sylvia watched the kobolds and she listened to Pylia as she gave a rough translation of what they were saying. She nodded to Pylia in silent thanks, and she followed the kobold as he led them into the sewers and to their small village within. It was kinda amazing that a small village of people could stand to live in the sewers, and it was also...kind of saddening. As they walked through, she looked around curiously.

Soon enough they reached the house that looked like a maw. She was quiet as one of the guards said that they weren't welcome and Shortfang's words didn't seem to reach him. She whispered back to Pylia, "I'm not sure if anything we say will convince them. Hopefully our previous actions will be much more convincing," As she made the last statement she glanced at the kobold who led them here.

She looked to the guards, and she spoke, "We understand your concerns, but we can assure you we're not here to hurt any of you. We even helped you fight off the trogs just outside of your home. We have to talk to the Grey Scales about a threat that is much bigger than the trogs,"

“Bah! You humies always have problems! Kobold have problems, and problems is trogs. Kobold can’t help until trogs not problem!” The guard said adamantly. Shortfang growled as stood face-to-face with the guard. “You stupid. We fight trogs too! We know tribe can’t go war trog themselves, not enough warriors. So Shortfang and friends fight! Let us talk to Grey Scales, so we can fight!” As it looked like the a fight was about to start a voice called out from the hunt. It sounded like a whisper, and yet it was loud and clear. “Let them in.”

The guards lowered their weapons and stepped aside, though they still looked on edge. You and the theta would be allowed inside of the hut, which was filled with a haze coming from a bronze brazier at the center of the room. It helped rid of the sewer stench in place of one that smelled strongly of hemp and butter. Here you could see three very old looking kobolds who indeed have grey scales. The youngest of them was a female kobold who still had hints of green on her face.

“You speak to the Grey Scales of the Swamp Dragon Tribe. I am the chief, and in your tongue my name is Longstrider. Who are you, and what is it that you come here for? Humans have never wanted kobold aid, no... Whenever they come here, they come to kill our people, because one or two may have committed some crime against the surface. If that is the case than you should leave. We shall not abandon one of our own for your justice.”

Sylvia sighed quietly as the guards didn’t want to listen to reason. Before she could try and prevent a fight from happening, she heard a voice telling the guards to let them in. With a slight sigh of relief, she entered the home of the Grey Scales. After they introduced themselves and asked why they were here, she answered them respectfully,

“It is nice to meet you, Grey Scale Longstrider. My name is Sylvia. As we have told the guards, we are not here to hurt, or persecute, anyone. We have actually come to inform you of the prophetic dreams Shortfang and I had, as well as offer our assistance in fighting off the trogs,”

After Pylia introduced herself, as well as Buddy, the Grey Scales chuckled hearing your words. "Prophesy? We've never had a missionary of all people come to us... Still, if you are willing to assist us against the troglodytes, I suppose we may humor you. But first and for most, we must rid ourselves of these enemies." Longstrider took a deep breath and blew towards the brazier, causing the smoke to take on shapes and pictures. It showed the troglodytes, and among them a larger, frog-like monster that stood well above them. "The Troglodytes have found a new, more powerful leader. We do not know what it is, but it calls itself The Red Stain. He has conquered the normally warring Troglodyte tribes under his banner, and has had them take over as much of the sewers as possible. Many creatures have been slain to feed his army, including kobolds. Once we had a thousand living here. Now we only have three hundred... Many of them simply workers or children. Even our beloved Sewer Dragons have been brought down to only two, due to the sheer number of trogs."

Longstrider took another breath and blew a new image into the smoke, this one taking the form of a large crocodile. "However, we believe at least one is still alive, but barely. He is younger than the one we have left, but nonetheless with him on our side we may be able to turn the tide of battle. He is the Green Eyes, and many months ago his rider was killed and he went into a violent frenzy, forcing our warriors to flee for their lives. We know he still fights against the trogs to this day, but without anyone to assist him his wounds will kill him sooner rather than later. And if it's already too late... Then at the very least, his skins and bones can be turned into weapons and armor we will need against the troglodytes." Longstrider waved her hand through the smoke to dismiss the image before looking at the group.

"You cannot hope to defeat The Red Stain on your own, nor his army. But we cannot spare the warriors to find Green Eyes and protect what is left of our home. So go, deeper into the sewers, and find Green Eyes. Bring him back, or whatever is left of him, so that we will have the strength to end this war once and for all." Longstrider took another deep breath and sighed, almost as if she's disappointed. "And forgive us for our hostility. Under normal circumstances we would welcome a scalekin. But we are in this terrible position due to treachery. One of our own Grey Scales betrayed us and now we cannot trust anyone, least of all outsiders. Even now I do not trust you. So do this quest for us and we shall give you what aid we can truly provide."

Sylvia quirked an eyebrow. She never really considered herself a missionary, she wasn't out to convert people to a different religion. She nodded in agreement when Longstrider mentioned that they should take care of the troglodytes first. She watched as the Grey Scale blew at the smoke and caused images to form while she spoke.

The Red Stain...what on earth was that? And what was its plans? If it won against the kobolds...then would it turn its attention onto the rest of Gransys above the sewers?

She felt sick at the mention that there used to be a thousand kobolds here, and now there were only three hundred. The two Sewer Dragons must have been the two kobolds riding the gators just outside of this village...

She listened as she told her that they couldn't hope to face the Red Stain alone, and to go find Green Eyes the crocodile. After Longstrider apologized for the hostility, she nodded and answered her, "Your distrust and hostility is completely understandable. There's no need to apologize. We'll help you find Green Eyes and we'll bring him back,"

Longstrider nods and points back towards the entrance. "Rest here while you can. Perhaps you may find something of us while you're here. But know that if you try and harm any of our residents, we won't hesitate to end you. Even you, Shortfang." Longstrider gave him a stern glare as he gulped and nodded quickly. Afterwards you were dismissed to do what you must. Pylia took off her mask and took a whiff of the air. "Well, at least this part of the sewers isn't as rank as the other parts. Moldy and stale perhaps... In any case, I'll try and make a few more potions for us. We will certainly need them, as I'm out of my stronger level magics, and I think I'm good for about... Three more castings of spells, not including my orisons." She sighs as Shortfang seems oddly eager. "Let's go find mom! She strong, smart, no let trog kill her. Shortfang know her house by smell. Let's go!"

Sylvia nodded at her hospitality and warning as well, before leaving the Grey Scales' home. After Pylia mentioned that the air here wasn't as bad as the rest of the sewers, Sylvia lowered her mask as well. Sylvia answered her, "OK. I'll need to meditate and regain some of my ki back anyways," She then blinked when Shortfang mentioned visiting his mother, and she answered smiling, "Sure. Let's go!"

"Okay!" Shortfang would lead the group deeper into the shanty town as he chats about the place as if he was a tour guide. The town is formally called Onurethrilark, or in the common tongue, Underhaven. Underhaven refers to the all of the sewers, and not just this particular location. The kobolds live down here for many reasons, mainly due to human's dislike of the kobolds due to the apocalypse dragon from sixty years ago. The one that Shortfang thinks is Kalmeet, though he admits that no one actually gave the dragon a real name, only that it's a black dragon. But once upon a time, they choose to live here, due to kobold's innate sensitivity to sunlight as well as their actual jobs of maintaining the sewers back when they were friends with the humans. Back then the kobolds wouldn't need to fight because they were friends with humans, but supposedly the kobolds betrayed the humans when Kalmeet promised them power. Shortfang insist this isn't true though; Kalmeet never liked the kobolds and it was just selfish humans trying to steal from the kobolds, who have always done well for themselves. This was when he started talking about his mother, Skinwalker, who is the best tanner and clothes maker he knows. She's also quite a hunter and taught him how to use a crossbow.

Soon enough Pylia gagged as she smelled the putrid scent of feces and other disgusting chemicals. "Ugh... Yeah... Smells like a tannery." She put her mask on as Shortfang excitedly heads over to a small hut with many animal hides being cured outside next to a vent. Hides of rats, lizards, and other giant animals you don't recognize. Shortfang said something in draconic which brought out another green kobold, just a little bit bigger than him. She seemed surprised and hugged Shortfang, wrapping her tail around him, as he did the same to her. He brought the kobold over to the group. "This my mom! Molikzhin, or Skinwalker!" The kobold woman smiled as best as she could and tried to speak. "H-Hi! Thank y-you for, take care, my son."
