They arrived back at Toby's cave and as soon as they did, Larek immediately went over to one of the rugs Toby had gotten and lay down. He looked up at his wife. "I'm feeling a bit better but I'm gonna be really sore tomorrow... my head hurts now, too..."

Toby and Lixia flew into the cave a few minutes later. The red dragon collapsed near Larek, lying on a larger mat.

"Hey, Toby" Larek said, putting his hand on the dragon's side.

"Hey" came the soft reply. Lixia trotted over to Toby and nuzzled him.

"Heh. He wasn't a child, even though he acted like one" Larek reminded her. "He was a spoiled rich idiot who just happened to have magical powers and artifacts, most likely from a relative of his. As for that crystal, I don't really know. I've heard of such strange lights coming from the void between this plane and others, but I don't know about the gem itself."

Toby looked up at the dracons and sighed. "I think Lixia told you that I may be developing oracular powers as I grow. It means I can see cause and effect at times. Not every day, but in my dreams. Like a vision. I can't see the absolute and immutable future, mostly. It's more like a possible or probable future."

"I thought I could handle it. I am a dragon, after all" Toby explained.

"Not fully grown yet" Lixia admonished. Toby sighed and replied to Lixia. "When I'm fully-grown, I'll be not much smaller than this cave, while you'll be far, far smaller than I am."

Larek stood up, uneasily. "I can understand wanting to help, but if you find it was too much for you, you should have sought help."

Toby growled a bit. "I can't depend on your parents for the rest of my millennia-long life, you know."

"True, but we can help make sure you live to get that long" Larek replied, knowing that after the first century or two, dragons were very hard to kill.
