Despite Haryss' warning, Dashara continues to avoid classes and him. One evening he catches her spying on a lesson between an Overseer and two Acolytes. She still feels the consequences of his earlier reprimand as he demands her presence down in the pit. Still resisting his efforts to control her, she shimmies across a ledge to the next observation room. She's shortly caught and marched to the pits where Haryss and another student is waiting for her. Given a pole weapon, both females spar. Naturally Ehla has the upper hand, thrashing the less experienced Dash. While she struggles with the cumbersome weapon, Kilian states if she fails then Mahree will be punished. Not willing to let her friend suffer for her shortcomings, Dash manages to kick the pole into half. With a more sword like weapon, she immediately begins to turn the tide of the battle. Taking a hit to the side, Dash gets in close then stops short from bashing Ehla's head in.
Disappointed by Dash's refusal to finish off her opponent, Haryss reprimands her. In her frustration, she reveals what she sees in him and turns to leave. Once more, she is locked in stasis by him. Helpless and unable to move, Dash soon reveals a weaker side of herself much to his curiosity. He tells her what he expects before asking if she understands. Resisting at first, the thread of hurting Mahree is enough to force an answer from her. Enjoying the submission, Overseer Haryss yet again confines her to quarters.
