Ah. Perhaps Lawrence asks what it'll take for her to stop it and Lyds admits she's wanted to become human but the only way is for a Breather to marry her. In order to save Barbara he agrees to it, they get married, she goes crazy with emotions, being alive, and power that she's about ready to go on a murder spree when Lawrence stabs her with the broken hockey stick. Of course with the one liner, "Till death do us part!"
