Well, the point of Iron Fist-Nightwing in Nightrunner's Titans thing was that Dick went missing for a couple years (aka K'un-L'un shenanigans) and returns to Gotham to see he's been replaced by Jason/Tim/Whoever and gets back in contact with all his former teammates/friends with a whole bunch of "WE THOUGHT YOU DIED!" and so on, so forth. (That and we were supposedly differentiating them even more from Batman, like Tim being Spider-Man, etc.)I mean, it's possible to make him Iron Fist without the ties to the Batfamily, but that's what made the concept so fun to mess around with, y'know?
