“And at home by the fire, whenever you look up there I shall be -
and whenever I look up, there will be you.”

I’ll preface this post by stating that I am a female writer who is both comfortable and capable of writing characters of either gender. To that end, I am hoping to write as the male role in the following prompt.

A decent grasp of literacy and grammar is all I ask for, along with the capability of pushing the plot forward with dynamic and substantial posts. I will return the favour of course; my posts range in length, according to present IC activity, but will always be consistently detailed. I am always reachable for drafting ideas and general chatter, but do prefer to keep things on-site.

Adult content is very much optional and I am happy to fade to black if that is your preference. However, for my own comfort, I am only open to writing with adults over the age of eighteen.

Now, for the plot itself:

With the steady decline of agricultural economy, the early 20th century saw a boom of arranged marriages between English barons and the daughters of their rich American counterparts. The acquisition of wealthy in-laws provided extra security for their estate, and allowed for them to invest in physical stocks across the pond.

One such lord follows a similar route, albeit without planning to do so. Following an excursion to the Americas to visit extended family, he speaks briefly of his financial tethers to an American man on the ferry, who in turn tells him of a friend-of-a-friend’s interest in making investments over in England.

The man in question is the owner of a newly franchised meat cannery, who encountered his fortune following the American economic boom. The lucky butcher is less refined than the English lord, but they come to a friendly agreement, and the former agrees to marry his eldest daughter to him. The two do not meet, but she is placed on a ferry to England in the months that followed.

The lord is a slightly older gentleman, stiff and proper, and seemingly uninterested in the romance of marriage. He is kind and is assuring of her quality of life, but remains very formal with her. She, on the other hand, is the creative sort; adventurous and poetic, determined to make the best of the future. She is enamoured by the history and aesthetic of his estate and makes a point of involving herself with the ranch and sheep farm, integrating with the house servants and ranchers alike.

She is fond of him, despite everything, and if she is to live her days out with him she is intent on making him love her in return. His development is slow-burning, and his gestures begin small. He starts by bringing gifts home from his trips to town, including books containing ghost stories that he otherwise believes to be ludicrous. He might even start to entertain them, listening to her read them aloud with mild humour.

All in all, I hope to write out the drama and intrigue that would follow an American bachelorette as she works to settle in a wealthy English estate. I will build a small cast around the main pair, to bring the setting to life and open up avenues for subplots and twists.

If this interests you, do throw a message my way!
