Below is a very brief test run before an untimely demise. It was then conceived to try something a little different which follows directly after, follow the link above to begin at the Miletos 928 section..

Jugdral 757

On the Gran Calender year 757, a barbarous horde based about the region of Ribaut in the Kingdom of Isaach made haste through the rocky stretches of the Yied Desert and laid siege to the quiet and poorly prepared city of Darna 'neathe Grannvale rule. It was all but a massacre with Darna - a holy place where the great Twelve Crusaders were born a little over one hundred years ago to topple the tyrannical Loptrian Empire - left in utter shambles. Public outcry was immense, not only for the savage and purposeless loss of life, but for the sullying of a place held sacred to all whom call Jugdral home.

The ever evenhanded Prince Kurth, whom handled most of Grannvale's politics due to his father King Azmur's advanced age, had no choice but to retaliate against the Kingdom of Issach, believed to be the belligerents of Darna's sacking. And so, Grannvale officially declared war upon Issach for the grave loss of life and sacrilege. Then King of Issach, the calm Mananan traveled in person to Grannvale in bids for peace, arguing that they had nothing to do with the massacre of Darna. However. . . The King was assassinated during his visit, throwing all of Issach into a fervor just the same as Grannvale's for the loss of their beloved monarch, believing the other nation dishonorably marred in his blood.

The very first act of Mananan's son as the new King Mariccle was to declare war against the greater nation in kind. Wielding the Divine blade of the Crusader Od, Mariccle was driven to avenge his father's death, and so were his people. In the dunes of the Yied, the Isaach - Grannvale War of Subjugation had begun.

As the Lord of the small city Tirnanog in the northwest of Isaach, your coffers supply you with 40,000 Gold for which to fund your army in preparation for the war. You may use this gold to hire soldiers and purchase gear for their campaign.

RIBAUT

King Mariccle: "Warriors of Issach! Have we not been dealt a great injustice? Not only have the impetuous Grannvalians deigned to make war with us over mere banditry, but so too have they slain the wise King Mananan, my honored father, in the coldest of cold blood. Now too I say, let us make war as well!" A cheer echoes across the field as the newly made king speaks from the gate of Ribaut. His people's fervor against Grannvale's recent actions since their King Azmur became too ill to lead has only reached a fever pitch.

"Just the same across Jugdral, the tyrannical Grannvalians have begun to subjugate Verdane -- and now they come for us! But we are no deep-wood barbarians, we are masters of our craft, they will not have Issach!" Mariccle raises aloft Balmung, the holy blade denoting himself as direct descendant of the Divine Crusader Od. His soldiers rally yet more at the sight, ready to begin their first campaign.

". . ."

"Ayra. . . Please take good care of Shanan. This country will need its next king dearly."

DARNA

Duke Angbert: "We've only but recaptured Darna from savages and now we're expected to fight off the Issachian army?! Just my luck, heh. These ballista best put in their fair share. . ."

PHINORA

General Alkard: "Hmmph. . . So this is the prelude to your ascent, is it Lord Arvis? I'll be certain to play my part in realizing your dream. Cavaliers, reinforce Darna, Duke Angbert's force is already exhausted. The rest of you await further orders, our goal is to weather the Isaachians for the first month of this campaign before Price Kurth arrives alongside the Grunnenritter."

TIRNANOG

"Captain Maya! A message has arrived - orders from the capital."
We are aware of Tirnanog's difficulty raising soldiers for this campaign, yet it cannot be understated how crucial a position your forces hold in our Kingdom, be well wary of any Grannvale assault as you hold the border, it is unlikely that their forces stationed in Phinora will hold their position forever. Ganeishire yet musters their own forces and will march toward Tirnanog within the month. When at last they arrive, together you are to take Phinora castle with haste. Good graces to you on the battlefield.

A retainer of the poor little city sucks at his teeth. "Not only Grannvale, but the bandits of the Fiodmahr are certain to make their move. . ."

And sure enough.

Gilla: "Listen ta that sound boys, them Issach's're gearing up fer war. Ain't nobody''ll be rushing to aid the city against some pesky barbarians eh? Hehehe. . . Come on Tirnanog's ours!"

Aindréas: "Boss Gilla, Tirnanog is still defended by a strong-hearted garrison, so many of us will die for this. . . And after the war we'll be routed out anyway, what's the point?"

Gilla: "Shut yer damn trap! I didn't raise ye outta the kindness of me own heart so ye could question my every order, I raised ye so you'd WORK. Now get yer ass out there."

Aindréas: ". . . Yes sir."

Maya: "Ready your weapons, everyone, we have lives to defend!"

The captain and her unit prepare for battle right away, spurred by Hedwig's scouting report of some activity in the nearby woods. They all knew it was a possibility, and avoiding an ambush could go a long way. She thanks the bowman and dons her armor, ready to take to the skies.

Reiner: "Same as our practice: pair up and keep formation until contact. Lancers, defend your archer. Archers, support your lancer."

The soldiers exchange knowing glances, a nod here and there, and they get into position.

The first moves of a war that will unwitingly shape Jugdral's future for a century to come. . . Issachian cavalry begin to their long ride on the edge of the Yied desert on their way toward Darna, no doubt to meet Grannvale's own before they reach the city.

In the north, a barbarous tribe calling the Fiodmahr home surge forth, soon to clash with Tirnanog's outnumbered defenders.

The barbarous tribes living in the Fiodmahr surge forth after their first losses, for too long they've been wallowing in squalor, each year their attempts to dredge themselves up from this murk become bolder and bolder still, reaching a boiling point in Issach's weakest moment -- Now.

FIODMAHR HUNTER #1 attacks HEDWIG (Archer 1) with their IRON BOW for 14 damage. HEDWIG counters with their IRON BOW for 14 damage!
FIODMAHR HUNTER #3 attacks HEDWIG (Archer 1) with their IRON BOW for 14 damage, killing them!

The first casualty in a bloody conflict to come is marked by a pair of two barbed arrows, sneaking their way through Hedwig's visor, there was little chance of survival. . . Using that moment of the soldier's death scream, one of the bandits, bearing a great hunk of iron slams it down upon Garit's guard.

FIODMAHR BANDIT #4 attacks GARIT (Lance 1) with their IRON AXE for 10 Damage! GARIT counters with their IRON LANCE but misses!

In her haste to swiftly repay the Fiodmahr barbarians for the loss of her man's life, Captain Maya's pegasus flung her ahead, only for a stray bolt to catch her shoulder. Suddenly she's accosted by a pair of the bandits, each with a thirst in their eyes for the warmer hearths and shelter of Tirnanog's walls. An axehead comes down, deftly paired by her blade, only for the second to sink itself deep into her chest. In moments she falls from her steed, the sacred blood of the Crusader Njorun that ran through her now seeps into the dirt below.

FIODMAHR HUNTER #2 attacks MAYA with their IRON BOW for 26 damage!
FIODMAHR BANDIT #6 attacks MAYA with their IRON AXE but misses! MAYA counters with her IRON SWORD twice, dealing 16 damage! MAYA gains 2xp!

Hasty decisions in a battle that didn't favor them... Faulting luck for what happened would be disrespectful towards the bandits' might, dishonorable may they be.

The rest of Captain Maya's men look at each other, many of them unable to find their voice in that moment. In the end, it's Lieutenant Reiner's example they all follow: swallow your pride, flee, live to fight another day.

The battle is lost, Tirnanog's defense forces retreat.

Captain Maya and the few soldiers of Tirnanog had two distinctions amidst the whirlwind age to come. In the Grannvale - Issach subjugation war of 757 brought on by the sacking of Darna and the death of King Mananan, one distinction was that their unit was the first to see combat in the theatre. The second -- they were also the first to feel the sting of death. Maya would soon be joined by millions of souls lost over the next two decades as Grannvale's influence swept across Jugdral, in part by the scheming of soon re-risen Loptous cult. Time and time again, great tragedy would befall the land of Jugdral, only for those bearing holy blood to reclaim a shred of peace -- their descendants however. . .

In the early years of the tenth century, in the often abused little trading nation of Miletos, on Jugdral's southernmost border another conflict brewed. One that would soon escalate into yet more tragedy.

Orius: "Well done. . . Well done indeed. With Menekos's holy blood spilling out from the pike we've hoisted him upon, there can be no question about the veracity of your convictions Lord Lycus"

Lycus: "Lord. . . Yes ser Orius, let this be the flag of our rebellion. No longer will our people stand to be used and abused by those in power merely for the sake of their lineage. Jugdral is aswarm with fleas grown fat on the backs of 'lesser' men, fleas that cannot see beyond the blood they feed on."

Argaen: "Do not let those heads of yours swell and pop. One castle and a handful of farmers and ruffians is hardly enough to take on the world. It's simply impossible that the rest of the country won't respond."

Lycus: "Of course. Men! Long have you sweat for the slave drivers who were handed our reigns more than a century ago, now all I ask is that you bleed for me, that we may cast off their yoke and see Miletos returned to the days of common men!

A cheer erupts from the populace, having just supplanted their prior Lord with a peasant no different than they. The year was 928, a new battle had begun.

Orius: "Perhaps the suffering your ancestors underwent here in Miletos is our fortune. As you know, the cities are disparate and not ruled under one royal house, it is my hope that they will not be quick to to join forces. And further, though the child hunts ended more than a century ago, the armies of Miletos pale in comparison to other nations.

Argaen: "Our movement has a chance here and here alone -- the people will support our every move."

Argaen: "Countrymen! Soon the echoes of our battle shall thunder through the valley and reach the capital, let them quake at our fierce hearts that they will lay down their titles and supplicate to the new order!" The oft' stoic halberdier let's his voice be heard from the back of the line as the Miletos Liberation army makes their stand between Rados and Chronos, he nods toward the young man besides. "Milord, I'll take command of the troops, you shall remain here."

Lycus: "T'would be a fool's command Argaen. If I am to be the Liberation's leader for true, than I must lead on." The young peasant trudges ahead to his gathered men. Laborers one and all whom he'd come well to know in his time. "March on! Soon shall our blades clash, brace thyselves!"

Guarding the rear as the Liberation army marches, the old fellow, garbed in worn armor enshrouded by a ratty green cloak takes a moment, upon his steed at the crest of the port village, his sunken eyes are set out the setting sun, laying down the last rays of its light upon the sea in beauteous shimmering fashion. "Ahh but you shall endure Jugdral, no matter the scars we foolish men set upon thee. . . Forgive us for our hubris." As darkness enshrouds the village, the weary paladin rides off, the clack of his mount's hooves vanishing into the distance.

Thoroughly entranced by their country's and their lady's passion, all of Chronos soldiers start lining up for the inevitable clash with Rados' forces. They may fall as individuals, but they take pride in their sacrifice, a fall that will surely crush the opposition on the way down.

The time for great rallying words had come and gone, only a tenuous silence had befallen the Liberation Army of peasant fighters, mercenaries, and disgraced nobles from afar. These were no steel-hearted soldiers with unwavering resolve. Merely folks who raised the sword in a foolish bid against the power of Divine Blood.

They knew not Lady Lena, the person that she was, nor the plight of Chronos. They knew only that Major Forsetti blood flowed freely within her veins, and that her kin had been placed here to rule after the 'Final Holy War' alongside the likes of Menekos of Rados whom they'd hung out for the crows. . .

It was here the bloodshed began, another tragedy in Miletos.

ARGAEN: "Fools! Such recklessness! Our victory was not sealed the moment we rose blades!"

LYCUS: "Come Argaen we must turn our mens' ferocity into momentum to win us the day before it's too late!" A vision of what could be worms its way into the young peasant lord's mind, their loose formation being snuffed out in the blink of an eye by a storm of arrows and slicing wind. "HOLD!" His voice is heard over the silence as he bades his men to stand firm rather than charge into the fray.

Meanwhile, in Rados Castle. . .

ALMIN: "Damn. . . Everyone left without me, I still can't even find my sword. Hope Ada and Davos don't think I abandoned 'em or something. . ."

Rados spends 7,000G recruiting Almin.
0G is left.
