Anselm the First exists as a somber, mournful thought form, doomed to an eternity of isolation and heartache. When young Anselm VIII conjured him into being, First emerged as a valiant spirit - strong, brave, and devoted to protecting the boy from his grandfather's vicious abuse. He was a steadfast friend and guardian during Anselm's traumatic childhood, providing comfort and hope when the world seemed bleak. However, as Anselm matured, his need for an imaginary protector diminished. Slowly, inexorably, Anselm's perceptions shifted until First became invisible, nothing more than a faded memory.

Most thought forms would have vanished entirely, but First persisted, sustained solely by his unyielding loyalty and hope of someday reconnecting with his creator. It is a dreary, lonesome existence floating invisibly through the mortal realm, rarely detected by those few sensitive to spirits. Decade after decade passes in solitude as First patiently awaits the day Anselm will see him again. That glimmer of hope flickers weaker with each year, yet still First lingers, devoted beyond death to the boy who dreamt him into existence. After a time hiding with a group of fellow homeless teens in a safehouse, Feral finally thought he had found some small semblance of community, even bonding deeply with a boy named Tohato despite their language barrier. But when their work with a local criminal group brought bloody retaliation and the devastating raid of the safehouse, Feral blamed himself for the harm done to those he had grown to care for. Now he lives in solitary guilt and grief on the streets, lying to Tohato that he is well-off when they cross paths, as he believes staying away will keep others safe.
